Would like to have seen us more aggressive in trading players.
Blicavs
Duncan
Miers
Kolo
All should be on the table. We need 20-24 year Olds in the midfield and a ruck like lynch, why didn't we trade him for Krueger?
you can shop them around but doubt be many takers and I would keep Duncan

What about the hawthorn players?
They don't appeal to me, a bit sad they stuffed up list management.
I think AFL needs to change the rules regarding/enforce the two first rounder in 4 years thing better.
At the end of the day, we are still a chance of winning the flag next year, probably about 10% rather than the 15-20% chance we have been for much of the 2012 to 2021 period.

Biggest improvement will come from game plan

I'd think blix, Miers and Duncan could net us something, our list is either over 30 or under 21, we need cerra or any other young mid and ladhams in the ruck
I mean you could get a pick shuffle or two. But the problem you're highlighting with few 24-28 year olds I don't think is solved in this trade period.

Our best bet is the list we have with a few picks and try look at free agents next year to replace retirements where draftees haven't stepped up.

Pretty funny that you're complaining about our lack of young talent but want to get rid of Miers at 22 after 60 games. He's exactly the type of player we need to step up.

And if you're trading out Blicavs and Duncan you're just straight out saying you're not trying to win a flag. If you're going to trade out key players you may as well tell Selwood, Hawkins, Dangerfield, Smith, etc to just retire because you're not going to be up the pointy end while they're still around.

Clearly there's going to be a rebuild at Geelong but it makes no sense to bring it on while Hawkins in particular is playing such a key role.

Miers is a downhill skier that has currency. Our midfield is our weakest link by far and was shown up in all three finals.

We could still contend without those three, if we got a ruck, a young mid and a first round pick.

We can't just say we'll have another crack again, that's where we were exposed in finals, it's going to get worse this year, without being proactive

I feel like Geelong really needed an A grade inside mid from the trade period or someone like Cerra who can become that.

Still even without the addition you know Geelong will still contend for the premiership next year

The thread title is the opposite of the situation, they have more free list spots than anyone at the moment. Down to 35 players on the list, 34 if they ditch Constable.

And will lose Selwood, Higgins, Dahlhaus and probably Smith and Tuohy at the end of next season too. Massive list changes in 2 years.

And rohan and then hawkins at some stage in the next 2-3 years plus stanley and ceglar only have 2-3 years left so big changes.
I think smith will go on for 2023 as he is durable but the other guys you listed probably only have 1 year left

We have 5 senior list spots currently which stays at 5 if we add stengle and delist constable. Might be less if we add another DFA (we will look for a key back i expect) or promote atkins or close.

If you want to add Stengle, I think you should do it as a rookie in the SSP.

I think he will have senior list offers on the table.from other clubs so i would say we will have to put him on the senior list if we want him. I doubt we risk him going undrafted til the SSP.

If the Pies are looking for draft points on draft night would the Cats be open to trading 32 and 34 for 27 and 48?

It would leave them with 22, 27, 30, 48 and 50, however I would be expecting the Cats to prefer to bundle up their earlier picks and target the first round by trading with another team or to back themselves to nail their current hand.

Potentially, but I think we’ll probably try to trade for the Dogs pick initially which sits a bit higher. I’m not sure we’ll find any suitors for anything higher than that and in any case we now have a number of list spots we need to fill.

I agree that 23 is the pick Geelong may prefer to get (particularly for back to back selections) but I would be targeting that pre draft night and then having an agreed offer for 27 in place if the Daicos bid comes before the Darcy bid.

The risk will be that the Pies and Dogs may prefer to trade once the bid comes and realise some upside if the F/S is bid on later than expected and that other clubs may also be targetting 23 and 27.

Can they consolidate some of those picks into a higher pick?

Yes but I think we have at least five list spots vacant. Also questionable whether a higher pick in this draft (assume we could not get into the top 10) is all that valuable as the draftees have such little exposed form so it is a bit of a guess beyond the obvious high picks.
