Both coaches were excellent with their post match pressers.
Mutual respect.
No sour grapes- usually don't rate Hardwick, but he was refreshingly honest, and CS was his usual high standard.

So important we went on to win that game given we will be missing Stewart for a few. On that, it will be what it will be, given what we are learning about concussions and the stories we hear I worry for Prestia, the type of concussion that can have headaches that last for years.

Most of our players actually had good games, Kolo was a liability and Hawkins had a shocker but would like to add that Grimes completely dived in that goal square infringement that had Henry's mark reversed. Was really impressed with that midfield dominance in the first half without Danger or Parfitt, we turned up to play. I didn't think we were that bad in the 3rd, it was just some shocking turnovers by individual players that really turned the qtr in Richmond's favor.

You’re right, it is no coincidence. We are a damn consistent and good side more often than not. If an interstate side was good enough to be 7-3 on the road (which we are) then they will generally win 90 per cent of their games at home as well

Hear hear. I can’t believe the dimwits who think the cats have an advantage playing some (not all) of their home games at home. “Home” is the key word here and immediately negates their argument.

I’ll help you get some perspective. Geelong gets 9 x genuine home games a season that involves significant home ground advantage …. at a ground you train at and teams rarely play at. And it’s dimensions are unlike any other ground so it’s foreign to every team who visits - it’s no coincidence you win 90+ % of games played there. MCG tenants get 4-5 genuine home games a season. A home game against Essendon, Carlton, Richmond, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood provide no home ground advantage. And a home game against Roos, Cats etc… it’s minimal as teams play at the MCG all the time.

And MCG teams don’t train on the ground.

I can understand the frustration of playing a home game against Richmond at the MCG. But do Essendon complain when they play Richmond in Dreamtime at the G as a home game? Or Anzac Day against the Pies at the MCG as a home game ?

Cats get 9 x games a season with a huge home ground advantage other Victorian based teams don’t get. Then you get 7-8 x games at a mixture of MCG and Marvel, which provide very minimal disadvantage. So please don’t think you’re hard done by overall during the H&A season as it’s just not true.

Geelong play 13 games away from K. Park- so according to your own logic, we are disadvantaged in 13 games. Richmond barely leave the G ( is it 8 times you play away—lol?) You play several interstate and non- tenant games at the G and you are at worst a 50-50 chance in all your other games there. You then play finals on your home ground -so you are rarely disadvantaged. Time to stop your sobbing old thing.

Grimes knew it was a certain goal, so he dived in the hope the umpires would fall for it. And fell for it they did. If only the afl had the guts to suspend players for this type of cheating.

I actually posted something reasonable in the Tom Stewart should be banned thread on the Richmond board… saying I felt he should get weeks but the most shocking aspect was the lack of emphasis on care for Dion Prestia.

Often the genuine hard nuts of the AFL like Selfwood/Prestia/Viney etc need protection from themselves…

It was clearly apparent he was going to be unable to continue within 20-30 seconds… stretcher should have been called on and escorted him from the field. Game Stopped etc…

One could actually make the provocative argument that Richmond’s Medical Team might have cost them the W this evening… by delaying his removal (with the concept of him playing on) allowing us to kick a goal in a close game.

The Tigers will likely drop to ninth by the end of the round. Big result today.

Much respect to the tigers today. They’re a bloody good team and will definitely shake up the finals again.

Their fans are a different breed though. The word “feral” is too kind.

I agree 100%. Liam Baker was absolutely superb for them and Hawkins was held goaless by Vlastuin. There were times Lynch and Bolton threatened to just blow the game away but were unlucky to squander their chances. Beyond impressed at their ability to play with a man down and never drop their heads when 6 goals down. It showed in 2020 and it showed again tonight. They really seem like a team that plays for each other. If they make finals, there will be another 7 very nervous teams. Credit where credit is due, they're a bloody good team.

But I can't express that to their fans as their board is a cesspool of histrionics, hypocrisy, hyperbolies, and conspiracy theories, bar a couple of level heads. If it were my team's board, I would be utterly embarrassed. If I were a parent, I wouldn't want my kids to learn fanship in this manner.

Perhaps forums like these just attract the most one-eyed of supporters. Perhaps it's just the emotions of a disappointing night about a team you're deeply passionate about. Perhaps it's just the addictive quality of self-righteous anger and victimhood. Perhaps over-dramaticisation is just part of the pain and pleasure of footy.

In any case, their board is pathetic.

Tom Atkins take a bow.

BOG and his hardness and desperation won us that game.

Kolodjashnij should not represent this club again. Almost single handedly lost us the game.

Good: Atkins, Stewart, Stengle

Bad: Kolodjashnij, O'Connor, Henry,
Atkins having a great year. Henry bad? He won us the game in the end.

also please no one try and defend Tom Stewart, yes it was out of character but it was still a dog act that deserves a long stint on the sidelines, it was unjustifiable and if you see people around talking s**t about him, let them, it is deserved in this instance.

I just looked at that vision, it was reckless, but he kept his elbow in at least. I suspect Stewart was initially going for the tackle, but because Prestia flicked the ball within a stride from the Stewart impact, Stewart then had to avoid the tackle to avoid giving away a free kick, and that's why Stewart's shoulder and arms were pinned downwards to bump rather than tackle. Prestia also turned his angle almost 180 degrees at the last stride for Stewart, so what would've been a tackle, then just a bad bump, became a very bad bump. Having said that, Stewart probably could've danced around him, but sometimes that can be very difficult when the heat is on, and its split second decisions with a stride left. I wouldn't say its a dog act, its reckless for sure. Dog act implies full intent, and I don't think that was the case.
If it was 1980s footy it would've been 2x as worse probably, with the elbow out and coat hanger style. I suspect it will be 2 weeks, but could be more, who knows.

ps. If Prestia played, we probably would've lost... just a guess.

I just don’t think Geelong can carry a player like Menegola. He is so ******* slow it’s like he is standing still. If he was an in and under beast like Selwood maybe you could but he’s also ******* soft.
Menegola is not quick but he can run all day. Sometimes he's slow to release the ball and gets caught. However he is better than other options. He was much better than Holmes, O'Connor and Miers today.

Great win, but let's face it - Tigers would've won if it had been their home game.
POTY!!

standing ovation applause GIF

We have lacked cohesion this year. I think we can click with a full fit squad and momentum.

Agreed. Given the constant changes in personnel this year (and we will have more next week with stewart out and a couple back in) id have taken 10 and 4 with the draw we have from here. Top 4 is a real show.

While we stuffed up a lot tonight what impressed me was when we were down we didnt either go slow and chip chip or panick and bombed it long we actually took risks and moved the ball with speed and skill. Thats what we need to beat melbourne (should we meet them in finals).

Almost forgot about Danger! 😯

Danger will be back next week and rohan should be back and higgins/dahl will be available if we need to rest a couple of senior players. The issue is we probably need to rest dekoning sometime in the next month to have him fresh for finals but with stewart out we would be brave to do it (even against north).

Except Menegola is a midfielder so comparisons to Miers (forward) and O’Connor (Defender) are irrelevant. As to Holmes I am taking him every day of the week, huge upside and at least he has some capacity to impact play defensively.

Like I said, if that happened to Selwood and we won the game, you guys would be livid too.
What he did was a perfect example of why a send off rule should be brought in. You guys benefitted from what happened. Took out our best mid, and the guy who did it was by far your best player.
Na we're a bit more mature and can handle our emotions better then you lot

It's the best melt by a group of supporters after a home and away game I've ever seen.

Go sleep it off and reflect in the morning how embarrassing you've all been at your end.

The way the afl is onhead high contact now i expect he gets 4-5 weeks but i totally agree with your words, was clumsy but an accident.
