Spifflication, but brutal and lingering..

Brutal because a heavy loss to the Cats is more demoralising because we demolish their vaunted strengths (like Port's vaunted midfield yesterday).

Lingering because they lose more than one match (Lose one and lose another for free, if you will..) or in some cases, even their Coach.

Post-Geelong loss stats (i.e Games lost; Personnel lost (through injury or sacking)) would be interesting..

Anyone else just riding a wave of happiness, shock and amazement this morning?

I have had 5 hours sleep, I have been at work for 90 mins so far and all I have achieved is loading up the apprentice with jobs so that he leaves me alone

Haha, yeah I’ve awoken in pure happiness. Have today off which is also nice!

I enjoyed that final more than any game I can recall for YEARS. Just such an unexpected performance. Was thrilling to watch unfold. Holmes, Humphries, Bruhn, Bowes just becoming stars before our eyes.

The job isn’t done but that was flag football we played last night. The quick hands and running in waves was electrifying.

Makes the point even more impressive.
Hasn’t gamed the system over a long period and is still almost at parity.
It’s impressive to me because the worst of his record - 2012 to 2021 where he was 7W-15L - was in a period where we had no right to be playing finals at all. The AFL system was designed for Scott to be harvesting draft picks in those years.

What a superb all round performance by the Mighty Cats last night they played the 4 quarters like they have at times played the last 15 minutes of games when trying to snatch victory after standing off opponents and guarding grass all night, two more games of risk and reward football backing yourself and your teammates to win contests is the way to go.Run run run.

Even better when you live in the city of churches, today is going to be a good day this next fortnight is going to be choice.
I'm a delivery driver for a company and a few of our client's are port supporters out the n/east, as little as a smile at them is going to be so deflating.

Tom Stewart who? I’m saying this as a joke.

So impressed with the way the team stepped up and how the match committee moved the magnets around to cover for his absence.

Mullin was serviceable in his absence. There was a bit of gut running he did where he was in the middle and then the end of a possession chain which was awesome.

Atkins was axe-celent.

Bews worried me when Rioli got away in the first quarter but he reeled him in.

Stanley stood up well. Even showed some clearance grunt.

That effort is gonna put the fear of God up a few other finalists.

Chris Scott is the best coach in the AFL and last night proved that beyond any doubt. I’ve heard it said it is the surprise element that makes Scott coached teams difficult to coach against. Last night Cats came to play, just like they did against Freo. No surprise there. Dangerfield was arguably the most influential player on the field not to kick a goal. No surprise there. Jezza, Stengle and Henry did as they pleased. That surprised. Mannagh and Lawson played like elite seasoned champions. Surprise?

The biggest surprise for me was that we didn’t miss late out, Tom Stewart.

What a bonus having the week off, the Cats playing in a VFL final, and the team having the luxury of getting a Hawkins, SDK, Rohan and even Cam Guthrie in contention for senior selection.

Selection will be interesting. SDK and Stewart to potentially come back.

Horses for courses, we may want to keep Bews in the side.

Thought Mullin looked better than Bews (who wasn’t bad). If we want the option of having a defensive tagger he may be handy. Didn’t think I’d be considering him before last night.

Don't rule out Guthrie potentially as sub. If we win on Saturday he'll have had 2 VFL games under his belt. And as much as Bews, Mullin and Tuohy did the job last night you take a 90% fit Guthrie as sub over them every day of the week.

It's not just a simple tag job it's a specialist job Bews does you have to be able to read the pack at the stoppage close to the opposition goal at ball up or throw in be aware of your players strengths be goal side know where the blocks and screens will come from and from whom as well as looking to clear the ball yourself it takes great concentration and strength.
