West Coast has also mostly hung onto their coaches. They cycled through a few in the VFL days but Malthouse stayed from 1990-1999 until he chose to leave for Collingwood. The next coach, Ken Judge, was the outlier. He did a terrible job and got the arse at the end of 2001. Woosha came in from 2002-2013 and chose not to seek a contract extension. Simmo has been there from 2013.

The club has never had a caretaker coach, but both Jaymie Graham and Matthew Knights coached one game each when Simmo was unavailable (daughter was sick and then he had COVID).

Does stability of coaches lead to success, or does success mean coaches are less likely to be fired?

Ron Alexander: lasted 1 season. 11 wins and 11 losses. Yet sacked after 1 season .

John Todd: finals in 1988, sacked in 1989 after a 7 win season.

Mick Malthouse: lasted from 1990 to 1999. Every season West coast played finals. Didn't get sacked, he went to Collingwood.

Ken Judge: came in at the end of 1999. Was coach in 2000-01. Sacked.

John Worsfold: came in 2002 and left at the end of 2013. He wasn't sacked. He left. Similar reason to why Mark bomber Thompson left the cats at the end of 2010. I just thought Worsfold was mentally burnt out.

Adam Simpson: arrived in 2005, left middle of 2024. Sacked.

Laws of averages means the eagles current coach will last for 2 seasons. Coach in 2025 and 2026.

Eagles bring in a new coach for 2027 and become good again.

But for your final question.

Does stability of coaches lead to success? Not all the time.

There has been some coaches that hand around for 3 or 4 years to see through a rebuild phase then get sacked for another coach to finish off the job.

Alan Richardson lasted 6 years at the saints and got no finals .

Team Success means the coach is less likely to be fired.... Obviously
