Geelong rorting the system

Wow how much did Geelong hurt you…

Oh that’s right…record breaking and history making levels. 119 reasons why LOL

a sports team losing a match because the other team was on PEDs doesn't "hurt" me, it confuses me how you could enjoy it when it's artificial, kind of like Brisbane juicing at half time all those years, but a step up

i live 45 minutes from it. Too close. As if Geelong would ever agree to play Collingwood at that dump. They love the MCG coin too much. Yet you clowns always trot it out as if youre victims :tearsofjoy:

Geelong make more money playing games at Kardinia than they do the MCG.
There’s an entire financial report breaking it down.

Geelong is forced to play a minimum number of “Home Games” at the G, the same reason Collingwood is forced to play a minimum number of games at Marvel. It’s a contractual agreement in place by the AFL to fill a certain quota for games at the G and Marvel every year. Because teams are moving their Home games to places like Tassie and now Norf to WA, other Vic clubs are forced to pick up the slack.

Geelong has and always will request ALL Home games be played at Kardinia. Because Geelong are again, FORCED not choosing to play Home games at the G, they are required to get at least 80k there to breakeven….not even make money just breakeven so of course they are going to pick the clubs with the highest membership bases and attendances. I mean, derrrr. AFL clubs are a business. They aren’t going to choose to lose money.

If it was up to Geelong, they’d play no Home games at the G at all. Why would they push so heavily to get more games at Kardinia? Could it be that crazy theory that the Geelong Cats playing in Geelong benefits Geelong because….get this! They are the Geelong Cats?!?

I can’t believe this has to be explained over and over and over.

It’s really not that hard.

So you think one of the richest and most powerful teams in the competition was taken down to the point where the club was removed from competing for a season and still hasn’t even gone close to recovering but Geelong just got ignored.

Pains them that the AFL cleared Geelong almost immediately.

Oh it is very hard for some. As you say, the same drongos keep trotting out the same false argument. It's tiresome, but debunks the other theory that GFC is a small minnow club. How many minnow clubs have dedicated threads about fictitious rorting, etc?

I call BS on the Cats needing 80,000 to break even at the MCG. I think you made that up.

FMD. There have been posts on this in which excerpts of reports tabled in Parliament on this subject were included. Do your ****ing Googles instead of calling it BS without any evidence.

So Geelong must have the world’s worst stadium deal at the MCG that is wildly different to every other club…?? I don’t believe that’s possible with Brian Cook / Colin Carter at the helm - they couldn’t be that incompetent to have a deal where an 80,000 crowd is break even.

As below, in 2009, Brian Cook confirmed a crowd of 85,500 at the MCG against Collingwood in the 2007 season delivered the club a $771,000 profit - but you’re saying that an 80,000 crowd is now needed to break even??

The following is from Brian Cook's testimony to the 2009 Senate committee transcript for the Establishment of an AFL team in Tassie - so these would be 2008 figures:

"...at Skilled Stadium when you have a capacity of 25,000, we make a net profit in that game of $638,000 per game, which is $26 per head. If we have a crowd of 85,500 at the MCG, which we did have against Collingwood in 2007, we brought home $771,000, which was $9 a head. Importantly, Telstra, now Etihad Stadium, with a near capacity of 46,000, we brought home $293,000, which is $6 a head."

So that’s $9/head. I’d assume an 80,000 crowd would’ve delivered approx $720,000.

If an 80,000 crowd is needed to break even then Geelong needs to urgently replace their management, as every other team makes a killing with an 80,000 crowd and Geelong must be run by muppets.

I stand by my opinion that an 80,000 crowd to break even at the MCG is BS.

I’ll happily eat my words and apologise if appropriate evidence is tabled.

I never said anything about break even. But can you now understand why the club wants to play its home games in Geelong?????

When they use break even they mean compared to what they would get from a KP game. They would obviously make money from a 60k crowd but not to the level they would get from a game at KP

A Geelong poster said Cats need 80,000 at MCG to break even with 25,000 at Geelong.
I understood what they meant but they didn't actually say that so I can see the confusion

Patrick Dangerfield - Pick 9 + 28 + Gore - Overs since he was a FA

Jeremy Cameron - 3 FRP - Overs since he was a FA
In regards to these

Adelaide was going to match, and you knew it, hence you didn't even offering a bid, and went straight to the trade table.

And GWS did match, which forced you to pay up for him.

So saying you overpaid due to them being FA is incorrect.
