Geelong rorting the system

Not overpaying “good” players “elite” player money is an excellent starting point.
Been that way since the 00’s Premiership years. Very strict salary structure in place.

Guys know if they value money most they can walk…just saw Holmes and Stengle turn down more money to stay.
Players know that Cats will not bottom out and will do whatever they can to put them in a position to succeed during their career and after it.

Funny how Cats players turn down aparently better offers from other clubs to stay.

Added to Geelong's list from other clubs last 10 off-seasons:

9 in the last 10 years. Probably the least in the AFL V (at least) 25 for Cats, probably the most in the AFL. If you wanted to go back further than 10 years as you have done here for Richmond, the likes of Mitch Clark, Rhys Stanley, Cam Delaney, Jared Rivers, Hamish McIntosh, Josh Caddy, James Podsiadly, Jesse Stringer are in play.

By the way, what other club did Thomson Dow ever play for?

Pretty sure there was an extensive article done on this and Cats weren’t even top 5 from what I can remember but it was a while ago so I’ll have to look for it.

People overreacting rather than just accepting they don’t like something so they’ll change the narrative to suit their worldview…

You wouldn’t fit that criteria right? 😂

He chose the Cats.

Pick 7 was to take his whole salary off their books. The Suns don’t give a **** about draft picks, they have their academy. Happy to give them away.
I'm not buying it.
He's a pretty decent player and was contracted.
Suns had a little leverage and could have got a better deal.
Still doesn't add up imo.

He was playing VFL before he got to Geelong, GC didn’t want him and Jack himself said he wanted to stay being a QLD kid with a Brisbane based partner. GC pushed him out cause they needed cap space to re-sign multiple star players who came OOC at once and overpaying him thinking his potential would allow him to blossom into a superstar.
Jack always had potential (top 10 pick) he just had niggling injuries.

It’s why it’s risky drafting a lot of guys in the same draft year early (looking at you Richmond). You’re better off staggering the years so that you can manage your cap better but being it is Gold Coast……yeah not great.

They were not getting anyone to take on that bloated contract for nothing, hence it being a salary dump.
The incentive to take the bad contract is the draft pick.
Don’t believe me? Just read what Craig Cameron their General Manager said.

Jack has had limited opportunities at AFL level behind our incumbent midfielders, so both Jack and the club agreed it would be in his best interests to explore further playing opportunities elsewhere,"

When it came time for Jack to pick where he wanted to go, about 6 teams put their hand up.
Jack’s agent knew most of them didn’t care about him and just wanted the pick, they had no initial interest eg Brisbane, Essendon, Adelaide, and can’t think of the last team…

Jack had genuine interest in him prior to that offseason by two teams. Geelong and Hawthorn.
What it came down to was that Danger was his mentor at under 18 championships so he and Danger went way back.
He and Danger also had the same agent which made it even easier.

Cats had Danger texting him trying to recruit him multiple times in years prior to the offseason but this time Jack and his agent officially met with Danger, Scotty and Steven Hocking.
They promised him game time and a midfield role. They’ve delivered on that.
The rest is history.

It's over, Steve Hocking had one look at the proposed 'investigation' and just said "yeah, nah" and the AFL ended it right there and then. Geelong-based business Morris Finance are looking forward to Chris Scott providing them exceptional value in his new role as Chief of Leadership and Performance. :smilev1:
That's fine. Now the AFL has to have an investigation about Port Adelaide fans being violent towards Ken Hinkley LoL

Same with Ablett Senior. I assume Slime Roy was alluding to Alicia Horan’s death which occurred 5 years after Ablett had retired.

Do we blame Essendon FC for what Olarenshaw was allegedly up to in Bali, and do we blame StKilda FC for what Sam Fisher’s drug dealing in 2022?
Good points.

Some of those eagles 2006 premiership players got into off Field problems after their playing days are done

The trade period gets the nuffers frothing about Geelong but what they fail to realise is that it's just a smokescreen for the real rort, the Rookie Draft/Cat B rookies where Wellsy plucks guys from obscurity ala the reigning Rising Star. It's still very much a rort, just not the rort our opposition friends think it is.

He’s a spud.

But really its not that different to any other trade.

Most players nominate the club they want to go to.

Fans hate it because we know there could quite possibly be a better deal elsewhere. But the player has to agree.

Geelong got him in and the Suns were dead keen to get him out.

The Suns controlled this deal they needed to offload salary cap pressure

Richmond like themselves a recycled player or two.

Unlike Geelong, they will hit rock bottom at various stages over the decades in order to acquire high end draft selections.

How is it always, and I literally mean ALWAYS Geelong? This is an honest question. Do they pay these players $100,000 a season or something?

You "literally mean ALWAYS"?

Heard of Macrae, Barrass, Parker, Daniel, Peatling, Rioli, Bolton, Lukosius, Houston, Baker, Owies, Neal-Bullen, Battle?

That's just from the most recent trade period.

I think you need to learn what "literally" and "ALWAYS" mean.

Lol about one a year over the last 10 years. Cats 2.5 times that. Richmond get Taranto & Hopper, and Geelong propaganda arm aka footy media melts about it. Cats get more than that on average every year.

Therefore current lists:

Tigers have Hopper, Taranto, Lynch, Prestia, Koschitzke, Nankervis = 6 players, the least in the AFL.

Cats have Bowes, Bruhn, Cameron, Dangerfield, O Henry, Martin, Smith, Stanley, Stengle = 9 players after retiring about 10 off over the last couple of seasons.

Cats are a big part of the other 17 clubs waste disposal management plans.

The only one melting about that were Richmond fans after the metaphorical arm and leg it cost to acquire those two plodders on 7-year deals. Unless you're suggesting Geelong used some sort of mind-control to force Richmond to mismanage their list so badly, in which case we're more than happy to add that to our evergrowing list of rorts.

Cats shill Kane Toad melting but good about Tigers acquiring Taranto & Hopper....

There's about 119 reasons why the former Port Adelaide 300-gamer wouldn't be on the Geelong payroll. Even for the Richmond board this is a doozy of a conspiracy. But in the spirit of the thread it will be added to the list of rorts.
