Geelong to go undefeated for the rest of 2024??

You hate Melbourne so much. We were probably shithouse after the 21 premiership.

I actually enjoyed their 21 season especially defeating/dismantling the Bulldogs the way they did. However the fact remains that they've fallen off a cliff since. A playing list that they had, they should have been a dead certainty to go back to back at least.

Maybe not off a cliff as they are not that bad, but they have definitely fallen into a small ravine.

A cliff? Two top 4 finishes post flag is not a cliff. Bulldogs post 16 was a cliff. Back to back I don’t disagree. Last year we should have won. But we didn’t. So that’s that.

If we don’t win this year I’ll be thinking a big waste. Very hard though. Swans are something else. Collingwood getting going.

Sadly after watching last nights game I fear poor ol Tommy hawk is finished unless he can drop maybe 10-15 kgs and play further up the ground (maybe on the wing) and free up the forward 50 in a more selfless role, I fear ol Father Time has caught up with him which happens to the best of us

A top 2 finish and a straight sets exit in 2022.

A top 4 finish and another straight sets exit in 2023.

Is a huge wasted opportunity.

7 games. Great run!

The thread should be re-titled "Bayer Leverkusen to go undefeated in 2024". They're 47 matches unbeaten in all comps so far.

Five, possibly six (if they get through Roma in the europa league semi this week) games to go this season. Already locked up the Bundesliga, have a German Cup final scheduled, and a semi at least in continental competition.

A bit more interesting than Geelong right now.

So the answer is obviously no.

The real question though should be:

Will Geelong beat a top 8 side in 2024?
We played our worst game in a long time and still nearly won.
Says more about how shit scared everyone is if we are up and about and they have to shit on a team playing one bad out of 8 games.

Thread predictably didn’t even last 8 rounds.
Can’t win the flag with no midfield.

I would counter that by saying that aside from his leadership, Joel Selwood’s contribution as an actual player in the midfield in 2022 has been replaced by the improvement of the younger players that have come in.
The obvious difference is whether Dangerfield is going to be fit - because his actual output when he is on the field is still fantastic.

Max Holmes has stepped in even though you would not call him a midfielder and Gryan Miers has filled a role not dissimilar to Isaac Smith so again while we don’t have a midfield to match the better ones in the competition I think it’s a myth to say that we have a midfield incapable of winning the competition: because I don’t think it’s much, if at all, inferior to the one that won the comp two years ago aside from the leadership of Selwood.

And that is endearing, but they really mostly are a pointless exercise outside of the odd injury update etc. Very, very rarely there may be a smidgeon of tactical insight while they keep the real stuff to themselves.

Tuning in to see if an opposition coach gushed about your side more than you did (5/10 - is there an indication Scott rated the Demons 5/10 or lower than your own appraisal?) after the match? That's more 5 year old level stuff. He focussed on the things he was in control of that Geelong did wrong. Coaches alternate between that and saying the opposition were great; see Voss last week for more of the same. It's a non-factor either way.

You keep mentioning class over pointless soundbites. That makes you naive or ignorant. People understand Goodie the betting party animal, and class is not something he tends to get associated with. But he said a footballer kicked a nice goal. Checks out. Just don't be going on any juries soon!
Yeah, usually they're pointless. But they're only 5mins so I usually watch it. They're not soundbites, I watched the entire press conference. There is simply no excuse to not credit the opposition. None. Go and listen to Goodwin's presser. He credits Geelong multiple times so don't say 'but he said a footballer kicked a nice goal' and tried to minimise it. Scott said nothing. Goodwin regularly credits the opposition. Not sure why you're defending it, or how you're defending it. He needs to do better.

Oh for f**ks sake mate get over it 😂😂

He regularly credits the opposition. His last three pressers from defeats he did it. That’s all I could be bothered going back and looking at. Stop taking something so stupid and minimal so personally. They ask a couple of questions about the game and he gives his thoughts in response and he literally singles out two actual Melbourne individual players for praise in particular and then a journalist presses him with three separate questions about one of his own players which takes up a third of the conference about one of his own players and he actually handles it quite calmly and fairly

If this is your biggest issue you need to get out more

You need to get over it. I stated that he didn't credit the opposition in his presser and instead of just accepting that he should do better you both defend it and create this argument. Why is it so hard to just acknowledge that he should do better. Anyway, this is going in circles :) Let's let it go.

‘Do better.’ What does that even mean.

Again who makes these rules, are you the gatekeeper of press conferences or something 😂😂😂

Geez mate.

He was asked one question about Melbourne. He also wasn’t asked that many questions. Scott can ramble a bit, not in a bad way just in a sort of contemplative way.

Scotty is the philosophy guy of the AFL. He goes very in depth into the nature of things….but being that he doesn’t want to give away any team based stuff he’ll go about it in a more broad/AFL centric rather than Geelong centric focus.
He doesn’t want to give away anything of substance that actually pertains to team stuff they don’t tell reporters.

So he’ll focus on something that is much more broad and just go on with that. It doesn’t give any of the shock jock clowns who just want a story anything to write about.

If Geelong kicked that badly two weeks ago Carlton win by 10 goals.

Look foward to the rematch later this year.. especially if Jeremy Cameron still has forgotten how to football.
