In the 16 completed seasons from 2007 onwards, on one occasion a team has needed 14 wins to make the finals and twice it's been 13 wins, the other 13 seasons ranged from 10.5 wins to 12, I haven't included the 9.5 of 2020 when only 17 h&a games were played due to COVID.

If we say 13 wins will get us there then we need to win 7 of our last 11, we can afford 4 losses, top 4 is likely gone. Danger and having a fit, match hardened and competitive ruckman are key to us now.

Like the Hawks in 2014 who had injuries to key players for extended periods, it will come down to having injured players back in enough time to get form and match fitness as we hit the finals. If we just keep getting the injuries then we're stuffed.

At the moment I think we're still in it up to our necks.

A loss tonight isn't the end of the world yet, but we'll be approaching the point where we'll have to be relying on other clubs too heavily. Right now it's still in our hands.

Win 9 of our last 10 and we'll make the top 4 with momentum heading into the finals.

It starts tonight.

I'm predicting Max Holmes to play his best game for the club and stamp himself as the next big thing.

30 disposals and 2 goals.

I'm predicting that we lose, and it will be Stanley's fault.
Or Tuohy's.
Or Kolo's.

It felt last week that once Port got a run on and the crowd got involved, we couldn’t stem the tide.
Let’s hope it’s the same scenario in our favour tonight at home!

Go Cats!!

I like your confidence but I think I have more of a chance my hair growing back

We only have 10 games left I think (played 13 out of 23) but agree that 13 is what will get you into the 8 (only just - as remember we have that extra game this year). So need to win 7 of the next 10. If we lose tonight that will be 7 out of 9. So critical tonight but not “end of world”. Lose to Sydney or North Melbourne in the next two weeks then world would have officially ended (even if we win tonight 😮)

Whilst maths means we can afford a slip up tonight (noting we should win the next three so would be 9 and 8 needing to win 4 of our last 6)…the last 6 games are against teams all aiming to make finals. So would love to have a buffer going into the last month of footy but winning tonight!!

A loss tonight and I think it’s time to get ready to stick the fork in.

Don’t be seduced by what we’re serving up on paper with named players. The issues run deeper. Midfield is hit or miss / we’re leaking goals in defence / and offensively we’re well below last years output. Players not playing with the same instinct and confidence of last year …. Losing games causes self doubt even amongst the most confident.

Have sides worked out a way to combat our style, or did we just have a perfect run last year? Maybe a bit of both. Something needs to click quickly - I hope it does - but I’m not sure it will.

Cats needed Stanley last week
He won't make difference tonight
Low confidence High hope
Off to the game in the cold and rain
Big effort... create some luck

Atkins really needs to lift. He was heroic last year, but has been poor this year. With PfD and Guthrie out, he needs to be at his best.

All our midfield do.
