He will go to Hawkins, to protect the drop zone. Jezza moves too much up the ground.

I think it's almost the opposite

That QF he dominated the aerial battle, he was opposed to Rohan and seemed he enjoyed that more mobile opponent as he allowed Rohan to lead him up the ground and would happily drop off him also

You could be right, I forgot about that game. Yeah, he mauled us that day.

Back onto the topic of Holmes, he's only been 3 weeks since his meniscus surgery... That's either a major risk or a mind-blowing recovery like calf blood in the hamstrings... Dr Google says if you have a physically active job, that's 3-6months on the sidelines, and around 4-6 weeks if you're in upright positions in jobs. I hope we don't wreck his knee!
Given the Cat's approach of managing players for the long term I cannot see the club taking any risk with Holmes.

It'll probably be McKenzie to Hawkins which will be in Hawk's favour.

If we can defend well against Port's ball movement and slow it down, then I think we'll win this. If we can't stop it then we'll lose, similar to the Pies.

A good chance to get our team defense back in order as it's been shit this year.

Some omens feel (to me) that a win is possible. We usually play well at the AO. We have some midfield firepower returning. Port has won ten in a row, meaning that a loss is not statistically far away. Port haven't had a bye yet, so their guys could be feeling the mid-season malaise a little by now, whereas our guys will be fresher after a week off.

Then again, our record after byes is not great, and Paddy, Mitch, & Max, while improving our midfield won't be match fit. Also, Port are playing a brand that sees them as a real finals threat and so if they beat us by a large margin, that won't surprise me either.

If we can break even in the midfield, our good backs and forwards can get us over the line. Fingers crossed. it could go either way.

Reckon Rohan and/or Ollie have a big night. Port (rightly) we'll be be heavily focused on Jez and Hawk, but we've got the potential to stretch them with our mobile talls if we can have the midfield battle.

Cats win, and the hunt for top 4 begins.

It’s time for 7 possie Ollie to pay the bills…. If he can’t get near the nut at least do some chasing and ramp up the pressure…something!
Did Ollie ignore your advances for a selfie? Or approach your significant other on Instagram?

It's a weird fixation you've got with him, he's a kid and he's kicking goals every week...not exactly at the top of the list of concerns one would think.

It's a massive game, no doubt. And there's a number of massive inclusions for us as well. Yet it will still be a gigantic effort to win this one.

In the end, no matter how much I'd love to see us win tonight (and absolutely believe we can), the more vital matter is that we go at least 1-1 over these next two games. If we don't do that, I think our premiership hopes just about recede to zero. So tonight becomes not only a chance to take a scalp, but also to build some momentum and cohesion going into what shapes as a monumental game at home against the Dees next week.

Forward line should get the opportunities, so just have to capitalise on the scoreboard. And Gaz back hopefully prevents our F50 from being the launching pad for a plethora of successful scoring chains for the Power. Mids get a huge boost for this match. And we'll need it, considering the quality in there for the opposition. On top of that, our defenders are good enough to stop them piling on goals, provided they're not waltzing it in unopposed on too many occasions.

Normally I get quite anxious about these sorts of games. Yet I'm strangely calm (and surprisingly expectant) about this one. Looking forward to finding out whether we have the capacity to go with them, given they're supposedly flying at the moment. And I'm also somewhat optimistic that the reemergence of something approaching out best might not be too far away. Here's hoping the belief in the group is unshaken and the intent to hunt is high. With those two elements in place, the strength of our playing group still leaves us with every chance of success.

Axe to play a blinder.
Cats by 17.

Re the 2 bolded parts - i slightly disagree with your 1st point - but i totally agree with your 2nd point

Re the Gigantic effort to win - in all due respects to Pt Ade - and they have won 10 in a row - some quite narrowly and it is a terribly weak comp at present - but tonight we are playing this Pt Ade team - we are not playing the Bris Lions Champion 3 peat team at the Gabba - with their big strong bodies - Akermanis and all of them - and they use to rag doll our young side at the time - that was Mission Impossible - where as tonight is a winnable game for Geelong

But totally agree with your 2nd point - as long as we are 7-7 - keeping that win/loss ledger at 50% and above - then we are still on the rails to make the final 8 - and that is the goal - just to qualify for those finals - and like they say - the finals is a totally new season - and it certainly could be this year because the competition accross the board is so weak

Listened to SEN with Timmy Watson & Garry Lyon and they had Michael Lombardi on talking about ‘competitive stamina ‘ I liked it and his view…
‘Winning is never boring’ … ‘no one is ever satisfied ‘
It’s a great mindset!!! Love it
I think it’s time for the cats to double up and be dog hungry for the cup!

I feel like we've had quite a few players who had to shoulder a lot of extra responsibility without Danger, and would have grown from the experience. With him back in I think they'll be collectively better off
Yup agreed. Would expect Atkins and Bruhn to be right in it with Danger and Holmes back.

Huge game for the captain here. I know we expect a lot of him these days, but if ever there was a game we needed him to fire, it's now. Hope we see some real leadership from him and we get over the line.

Not happy with two goals per game from a 20 year old?

Pfft, only 2 goals from 7 disposals per game...

Surely he should be averaging at least 4 goals if he's getting 7 disposals a match

Never mind that he's actually averaging over 11 disposals, and 5 score involvements per game - the latter is top 7 at the club this season

Feeling the excitement build for tonight

Hoping that some form from the dogs game carries through and it's a big team effort to get the job done

We might push their defence for height with Blicavs floating forward and kicking a couple
Atkins has been a bit down on last year's lofty standards I reckon he dragged us over the line against Port last year let's see if he can do it again with more mod support back
