Every second flash-in-the-pan team wants to be Geelong's rival these days.

Supporters of teams that start being competitive seem to think they are bigger in our eyes then they actually are and then they disappear back down the ladder as do their bandwagon supporters and Cats continue rolling on as they do. The same thing happens with the Pies, teams try to create rivalries with Collingwood whereas the Pies couldn't give two ****s about those other clubs (looking at you GWS)

It is and always will be Hawthorn for Geelong as a club and for supporters, that shit runs deep since the 80's.
Collingwood maybe have the best argument to throw their name in there as a Cats rival with soo many fantastic Finals matchups but realistically it's daylight after the Hawks rivalry with Cats.

I imagine for some of the Tuggers faithful here who seem to live perpetually online that they need to keep bringing up a very brief past time in footy as a way to "in their eyes" remain in relevancy with Geelong fans...whereas Cats fans couldn't give two ****s about anyone else but the Hawks. It's the Don Draper meme, "I don't think about you at all"

And the best part is, 99% of Hawks fans are fantastic to banter with. The rivalry is built on respect. We hate each other's guts when we play but we can acknowledge how well run both clubs are and the fantastic battles we have with how spicy those games are (something always goes down).

I've noticed the banter on the Hawks vs Cats page is actually funny and generally is done good banter back and forth that both sides can acknowledge.

This thread is just full of toxic Yellow and Black melts one way and the other side going, "Ok sure Jan Richmond"

I'm sure the early 1900's were thrilling for all involved. Makes me super jealous of our Essendon and Carlton supporting friends.

My Essendon mate told me the other day he'd trade in his support of Essendon for the Cats if he wasn't soo loyal because he said he's never been able to see his team win a premiership.

In my lifetime i've seen 4 and those were with two entirely different squads. Also seen a fair few losing ones. Such is the life of a fan of a successful team.

That's how i know i've got it good, even someone who is a staunch Dons man who on technicality has more VFL Premierships, he would trade it in for AFL one's in a heartbeat.

I've always been a big believer in the National Competition starting with the name change to AFL.
1990 - present is all that matters, but that's just me.
Quoting Premierships from the early 1900's when the game was entirely different with different rules, different competition, different apparel, a lack of any sort of fitness/skill and the supreme advancements in sports science...it's always come across as a cop out. It resembles nothing of footy that we see today and should be treated as such.

I think there's plenty of Richmond supporters on the main board who don't care that much any more. Sure they'll throw out some barbs but just to look back on fonder times.

The three around these parts that for some reason remain are as furiously invested as ever in all things Geelong are Cleansweeper (RIP), MR and blaisee. We should be kind to people like this. You wouldn't go up to an angry maniac in public and make fun of them.

Yeah the funniest thing is watching people expecting linear results from a rebuild just because "it's what should happen"

It could lead to something, it could lead to nothing.
There is no guarantee of an upward trend or expectation that a Premiership will result out of it after years of toiling away at the bottom. Sometimes teams stay at the bottom and just continue to stay there, sometimes they move up and then fall straight back off again. Sometimes it all works out and you end up with a dynasty.

There's 18 soon to be 19 teams, winning one is extremely hard to do and any expectation of results happening "just because" shows a lack of footy knowledge. But with who you're talking to....not surprised
