No, this has never been a thing (outside of the COVID hub years). You win the right to host a final in your home state, the AFL decides the most suitable venue to accommodate the game.

Do you also recall 3 weeks before the finals they beat you comfortably?
Pies have to play 14 games at the G (contract) and 2 home games at Mrvel (contract). That’s why you don’t come down
Where are you residing? Werribee? Which is 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 40 mins if you were leaving from there on a Friday at 5pm.I have a holiday house in indentedhead, often do the drive on a Friday night, never takes over 1.5 on a bad day, usually it’s 75 min no speeding. plus you guys are going against the traffic,
The only thing this game should not be is the absolutely s**t time slot it was given.
Why the * is this the Saturday afternoon game and not the blockbuster Thursday of Friday night game. It's stupid and I hate it.
Do the Cats fans realise that if given the choice all of your players would choose to play a final in front of 95,000 at the MCG and not at GMHBA?
It’s not fair Geelong got father-son superstars for next to nothing. It’s not fair they get a home ground advantage other Vic teams usually don’t. It’s not fair teams don’t play each other twice and this season Geelong got North and Eagles twice each. Its not fair Geelong are the only Vic team that provides a beachside lifestyle so get Cameron because of that without competition. Its not fair the soft cap is the same for Premiership clubs who have to pay their coach $1m whilst other clubs pay $600k meaning more coaches and off-field staff.
And it’s not fair Geelong don’t play finals at GMHBA…..
Guess what? In AFL footy very little is fair and Geelong aren’t the only poor petals to cop it…. you win some and you lose some. Get over it.

no issues with me. glad to see you agree we play 13 interstate games each year - by your definition.Given Geelong fans are complaining about how far away Geelong is from Melbourne, then a trip to Kardinia can take one of our interstate trips
Richmond also lost a player in the first 5 to 10 minutes of that 2017 game, no doubt played a big role in Geelong's winWas a 14-point final margin. 6-points at 3/4 time. Comfortably?
But that was a H&A game. In 2019 Cats beat us by 67 points at the MCG in Round 12. Was 74 margin at 3/4 time.
Finals generally involve a different ending to H&A games for the Cats.

It will make a mockery of the competition if the clear competition leader is playing its home final in front of 75 thousand screaming pies fans at the ground the pies play 15 games at each season when the pies finished fourth.
we can not have a repeat of the ridiculous 2017 finals series.
surely the competition has moved beyond the amateurish of playing finals where crowds are highest at the expense of fairness. Other professional sports do not do this.
note the grand final is a little different because there are no home sides in a grand final and the crowds arent heavily biased to mcg tenants due to fans travelling and all the neutral fans. So please dont bring grand final arguments into this thread as its not equivalent.
play the game at either kardinia and if thats not possible (it is) then play at least docklands.
for the sake of the competition.

Back on topic. I think 4:30 on a Saturday arvo is perfect. The G is fine. Will make for a great atmosphere. If we’re good enough, we’ll win.
Wrong. Its the best shape of ground. One of the few that is actually good for football. Short grounds with wide Wings result in boring circle work and side way chipping. Long thin grounds turn football back into a game of yardage. The way it was meant to be played before all the players got super fit. Much harder to flood an area of the field if you have to run an extra 15 metres up and down the field each time to do it.You had the chance to build a decent side ground that had wings as part of the re-development, you did not, its a toy ground and not fit for finals.
Pies fans can smell your fear.
Cos it has not been fixed yet and the same mistakes are about to happen again.Cant believe this thread is already 16 pages.
A sure way to get reactions.
This topic has been absolutely flogged to death for a decade.
Cos many geelong fans wont be able to come if they cant get home until 1am. which is what happens on friday night games. Thursday nights would be even worse given its a work day the next day.The only thing this game should not be is the absolutely s**t time slot it was given.

Great timeslot, should get home by 9:30 or soCos many geelong fans wont be able to come if they cant get home until 1am. which is what happens on friday night games. Thursday nights would be even worse given its a work day the next day.
Yes the afternoon game is atleast something that should help even out the fans. Still will be massively biased in favour of collingwood though.Great timeslot, should get home by 9:30 or so
The MCG has become this Mecca of ground dimensions, purely because it's got the biggest grandstand, but look at purpose built stadiums for Footy:Wrong. Its the best shape of ground. One of the few that is actually good for football. Short grounds with wide Wings result in boring circle work and side way chipping. Long thin grounds turn football back into a game of yardage. The way it was meant to be played before all the players got super fit. Much harder to flood an area of the field if you have to run an extra 15 metres up and down the field each time to do it.
the mcg needs to be extended by about 15 metres and the wings brought in by about 15 metres. It would make afl a far more enjoyable and riveting game to watch.
but all this is for another thread.
Fair argument because the only enjoyment I get out of winning home games that aren’t home games is laughing at how pathetic the opposition are losing on their home turf even with the emotionally influenced umpires.I’m sorry, but this game will fill the G. Arguing that 69,000 fans should be locked out at KP is just ridiculous.
