Geelong will lose

Remove this Banner Ad

The main difference aside from current team form, which as we know is the best team on the day, Geelong know what it feels like to win a GF, THey know how it feels to loose a GF. St.Kilda need to have the A game from the first siren to win. If they get behind early or make some early mistakes then they better watch out.
Either way Geelong or St.Kilda will be a worthy winner.
No underdog in this final.

Saints will win, best team this season and dare I say it in the history of VFL/AFL football never have I see a team play as well as they have in a season.

*won 22/24 games, 2 losses were by a total aggregate of 7 points Cats won 23/24 in 08. Means jack sh%t in GF.
*Saints midfield is better more depth than Geelongs (Montagna, Dal Santo, Hayes, Goddard, Fisher> Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Chapman) Right! You just lost ALL credibility
* Saints forward line has the 2 best small men and 2 best talls in the game> Steve Johnson (back from injury), Mooney + varcoe and burns Chapman = AA, Johnson = past AA & Norm Smith. Who are your smalls? Milne & Schneider? Pffft!!!
* Not sure how some of the older slower Geelong players will cope: Tom Harley, Cameron Ling, Max Rooke, Scarlett Scarlett is STILL AA & the best FB. Rooke is 29. Ling is STILL the best tagger. Harley, granted, is on the way out.
* I must admit I had a big question mark on the Saints ability to play out door and at the MCG, but I think the past month they have answered the critics. Solid wins against Collingwood , Bulldogs have put those thoughts to rest Solid win against Bulldogs? A lucky and in many purist's eyes, an undeserved win.

Saints at $2.50 is good odds :thumbsu: Will be thinking of big bet here

St kilda have done the hard yards in the Prelim. Have a forward structure that geelong will struggle to contain. equally good midfield and defensivegame that can't be beat.

Like Port in 2004 hitting their prime while the latter are becoming a spent force.

70 point win against a bunch of nobodies by only getting clearances through the centre isn't fooling anyone.

St kilda by 30

What are you basing this dribble on?? You are playing a team that has more of a chance of beating the saints than brisbane did of port. The lions limped into that GF, they limped into it. Geelong is going in at virtually full strength, if you lose riewoldt to a dodgy knee then your GF is GAWN!! Kosi can not influence the game like roo can

Nobody seems to realise that Geelong are going into the Grand Final after a two week rest and a practice game against Collingwood. They will be fresh, and if they kick straight, they will win easily.

Of course the rider here is :If they kick straight!. And they didn't do well in that department in their practice match last Saturday night; nor last year, come to think of it.

I agree with the previous post, why say 'XXX will lose', it really is ridiculous..

I will say this though, the saints beat an undermanned Geelong (no Ottens/SJ) by a measily goal.. Thats after a 30 points head start..

Who do you think is worrying...

The fact is that the only hope the saints have is if we beat ourselves (IE. last year). At our best, there isn't a better team (I know it, you know it, everyone knows it). Period!

Lol Saints defence = best in the business my friend.

Saints have only conceded average 61.3 points per match in 24 games this season. Not bad for a team that plays almost half of their games at the Dome . (a traditonally high scoring venue)

Don't care what they have kept other teams to. Other teams are not a full strength and confident Geelong. We are pretty good defensively too. Kept the Pies to less than they did I believe and put miles more on the board offensively at the same time. This will be the key. Now to take care of the rest of your ignorant garbage.

Saints will win, best team this season and dare I say it in the history of VFL/AFL football never have I see a team play as well as they have in a season.

Where were you in 2000 then? Those Bombers were better. Regular season wise we were better last year too and in 07 even if we did not quite have as good of a w/l record. Also the Eagles of 91, Blues 95, Port 04, etc to consider.

*Saints midfield is better more depth than Geelongs (Montagna, Dal Santo, Hayes, Goddard, Fisher> Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Chapman)

Good grief that is ridiculous. And if you are going to allow St Kilda Goddard and Fisher then how about you give us Enright and even Milburn? Fool. How about you go to the polls board and start this and see who agrees with you?

* Saints forward line has the 2 best small men and 2 best talls in the game> Steve Johnson (back from injury), Mooney + varcoe and burns

There talls smalls looks better than ours right now but Mooney and Hawkins were still pretty handy last game as were Byrnes and Varcoe. SJ looked good last week and Chapman rolls forwad too. Also as good as the Saints look here how many goals has it got them lately?

* Not sure how some of the older slower Geelong players will cope: Tom Harley, Cameron Ling, Max Rooke, Scarlett

Bahahahaha. Ling and Rooke? Yet you don't list Milburn or Mooney. This could be a somewhat valid point if the Saints played in a way which could expose it but they don't and considering you don't even know who our older and slower players are is not worth going into.

*I must admit I had a big question mark on the Saints ability to play out door and at the MCG, but I think the past month they have answered the critics. Solid wins against Collingwood , Bulldogs have put those thoughts to rest

They were solid against the Pies yet beat them no where near as convincingly as Geelong and fell over the line against the Bulldogs who wasted chances, lost composure when moving the ball towards the end of the game and were penalised a goal from one of the most disgusting umpiring decisions of all time.

Saints at $2.50 is good odds :thumbsu: Will be thinking of big bet here

Good luck, is your funeral.

Take your st kilda blonkers off for a second and listen to the garbage you are spouting.

St Kilda rely on one player to kick their goals ..stop reiwoldt and you win the game.
The Cats have the best midfield and defence in the comp ...they will not only stop reiwoldt they will starve the saints forwards...and kick a winning score.
Cats by 5 goals at the very least .
I am hoping for a Saints win ..but i can't see it happening .

As we saw against the Dogs ..previous wins count for nothing when playing in a final ..the Saints were very very lucky to scrape through against the dogs..they will get beaten in the Grand final by the team that has dominated the last 3 years.

I should think you would put your house on it. You've made about 1000 posts already this week telling everyone how the Saints are certainties, go and hit the TAB.

Cats will tear the saints a new arseh*le this saturday, can't support the saints for what they did to my dreamteam a couple of months ago.
Hope divewoldt cries his arse off .

St Kilda will get found out. Geelong's midfield is better, Geelong has more options up forward, and Geelong's defence doesn't have any Zac Dawson's. I hope Geelong wins and i expect they will win their 2nd flag with this squad.

I'm pucking sick of all the cocky Geelong supporters who think ablett jnr is god

im absolutely with you on this one.

he's not god. he's simply the SON OF GOD

the SOG

get around the fricking son of god. absolutely one of the best players you'll ever see on a footy field.

3 words will decide the granny and they are son of god

big shout out to gosog - girlfriend of son of god aswell

Refresh my memory. How'd you go against that "bunch of nobodies" a fortnight earlier, especially considering they were one man down after 10 minutes, and had Rocca playing for them as well?

To think we'll flog the Cats is crazy, would love it obviously.
But I think it'll be a pretty tight contest. The two best teams going at it, can't wait. But, being a Saints fan of 25+ years, am not at all getting carried away, prepare for the worst, hope for the best...

Shuddup idiot saint fans who think your gonna win.
Listen to me, my opinion is rarely wrong.

Geelong will run over the top. Simple.
Sure it's not fair, saints have had the better season ect ect, but here are the facts.

10 facts why Cats will run over Saints

1. A lot of St. Kilda's players are still going to be feeling Friday night when they run out on Saturday.
2. Geelong won't feel a thing.
3. St. Kilda were very very lucky to get home againts Geelong earlier this season at the dome.
4. It's at the MCG. Saints will tire quicker.
5. Gary Ablett plays for Geelong, not St Kilda
6. Nick Riewoldt is playing sore already, even before fridays clash
7. Geelong have a **** load of experience on GF day
8. St Kilda do not.
9. Geelong are a bigger boddied, more desperate, harder at the footy and a better team than St. Kilda.

And the most important fact why Geelong will win.............

10. Paul Chapman

quote me bitches, if he doesn't win the Norm Smith it's coz he did his hammy.

Will be evenly poised at half time, but Geelong will take command in the 3rd term, when Saints start to feel last friday night.
Not fair, but that's footy.

*Places $500 on Paul Chapman for Norm Smith.

Chappy with one hammy is still good for 5 goals, ask Adelaide ;)

Saint Kilda's forward structure resembles a pyramid of heirachy, the only problem is the lower levels cannot hold up the point of riewoldt. Schneider and Milne have been absolutely revolting in the past few games, and unless they fire we are going to dominate.

Of course we need our smaller forwards, specifically chapman and stevey J to fire too, and unless chappy is off with a hammy before half time, it's kind of a given that he's going to kick at least 2 goals.

edit: Byrnes could play a larger role than expected in this game, especially if chapman is held well.

Lets not forget the Tommahawk. He's been outstanding in the wet in his last two games, enough for wallsy to through a TV at him purely for his defensive pressure.
He's $81 for norm smith and im having a nibble at that.
Cats by 40.

Finally!

I'm okay with Geelong being favourites and everything, makes sense I guess.

But I am honestly shocked as to why they are such strong favourites... they're shitting in the poll on here, no one apart from Saints fans appear to be tipping us, all my mates bar a couple have written us off.

I don't get it, I thought we would have done enough to at least convince people we're a chance :S

You can bet your bum that no one will lose this grand final.
Both teams are too good.

Someone will win it though

There's no doubt that you guys were the best team during the home and away season. But I think most people, including myself, believed that a fully fit Geelong is still better than a fully fit St Kilda. They are in better health than ever this season and have some form to go with it. Should be close but I will tip the cats.

Thought this would have been moved to Bay 13 already.
