The deliberate behinds saga was blow way out of proportions by the "Hawthorn Hateing" media. There were 23 behinds, of which 12 were scored due to Geelong's inaccuracy. Of the 11 rushed behinds, some were definitely under pressure. However, the handful that were scored when the Hawthorn player just stepped across the line really frustrated the cats, and their media followers. There was no rule at that time, so the ploy was totally within the rules.

There have been blatant incidents of players, under no pressure running the ball through for a behind, but go unpenalized.

The point I was making is that regardless of anything is OK by the letter of the law or not, it's not going to get them to take back the premiership.

And the point Thai was making was one premiership was achieved within the rules of the game and one wasn't. All this fair playing field stuff doesn't hold water, in the dogs vs hawks final, one of our players on the half forward flank was tackled by two players and the ball fell from the tackle after a feeble attempt to handball it. It fell within the reach of the 2nd dogs player, who passed to a third. He was tackled in the same fashion by two hawks players and instead of attempting to handball it, he blatantly threw it to whoever was unmarked as a result of the two tacklers. One player attempting to play within the rules is penalised and the player who simply knew he wouldn't be penalised does what ever he wants with abandon. This premiership will always be questioned, get over it.

Perhaps they should change the rule, make it that if you throw the ball you give away a free kick. You never know they did something like that after the 2008 grand final.

I think we should give the dogs cheated line a rest.
They played that way all year and were allowed to play that way all year.

2008 Hawks blocked thean to stop Feelings overlap run (people forget that interpretation was changed after that game as well)

GF highlight issues with umpiring sometimes that get glossed over in the regular season noise.

I didn't like what the doggies got away with but it was like that all year, Bevo exploited it perfectly and it got them the flag, I don't want to see it again but then I'm glad we don't see defensive players kicking points from 30m out either like Willo did in 08

They did it the hard way, and I admire them for that. However, it will be interesting to see how ball disposal is adjudicated this season.

I think we have instances of players kicking points which should have been penalized. In fact I can recall instances when commentators have declared if they missed, and kicked it OOB, it would be a free.

I feel sorry for the umpires having to make all these split second decisions based on a player's intention.

I'm making no comment on the merit of the Dogs premiership here. Just wanted to point out that throwing the ball is not at all similar to us deliberately rushing behinds in 2008.

Throwing the ball is already against the rules. This rule was simply not enforced as strictly as it has been previously. Whether that be umpire interpretation or some sleight of hand.

Deliberately rushing behinds prior to the 2009 season was not against the rules. It may have been "against the spirit" but it certainly wasn't illegal.

And just as a further side note... the influence of deliberate rush behinds in our premiership in 2008 is highly overstated. There was only a small handful of them that would have been illegal under the new/current interpretation.

Not much different to their"Best Grand Final," and "Best Finals Game." I have been saying for a long time that the AFL don't like Hawthorn, who should be a minnow, being the most powerful club in the competition, and they have an agenda to turn fans against us. Well, eat sh1t Gil and Co., we are coming back stronger in 2017.:):thumbsu::rainbow:
Thai, the betting agencies don't rate us either. Last time l looked we were $1.95 to win at least 13 games v $1.85 to win 12 games or under.
So they're saying we'll be lucky to make the eight!
If only l had a spare 20k lying around.

14/16 for the 2016 quiz
7/8 for the 2008 quiz

X Ellis most possessions in the GF?
That's surprising, I went for Sewell
I went for Sewelly too but still had Ellis second best BOG.
Now listen quiz master, stop your boasting as here comes my 3rd trivia question:
Which is correct?
(A) Buddy and Cyril have never kicked a right foot goal.
(B) Buddy has, Cyril hasn't.
(C) Cyril has, Buddy hasn't.
(D) Both have kicked a right foot goal.

I'm not 100% sure of the answer myself but have an idea.

It's gotta be C or D. I'll opt for C, otherwise it would be a pretty silly quiz!

I thought C as l can't recall Buddy kicking a right footer even from a yard out. Did he do it with us or Sydney? As for Suckers, that must have been a real fluke.:D
For us, can't remember who against. Awkward looking snap from close, same as Suckers. I can't remember/picture Cyril on his right, but surely he has...

Awkward looking Sydney forward:

Thanks for the proof. Against st.kilda maybe 2012 Cyril trapped a mongrel Smith kick and hooked a little right footer for a goal punt rd end.

I'm assuming you mean whilst playing for Hawthorn in Buddy's case

With that in mind, the correct answer is C

As above, Franklin has kicked a right foot goal for Sydney

Edit: may be guessing!

Yep, l cannot recall a right foot Buddy goal with the hawks, maybe someone here can.

Malcolm Blight commentating the 2007 Elim final and on Hodge

"I reckon this young bloke is going to go alright"

Dying minutes coming up and I'm nervous all over again :D:p

Next up the 2008 Grand final followed by 2014 - thank you Jason Dunstall

Fireworks - what fireworks

Was this comment in relation to Hodge or Buddy? By 2007 Hodge was already going alright with an AA and a Crimmo Medal.

I thought it was Hodge but you could be right and that he was referring to buddy - seven goals that game - unbelievable for someone so young and a final too boot
