Urrghh.

If that segment on Sen with Adam Cooney is any indication, he is gonna be insufferable all year...

Haw 7th. WCE outside the 8. Jacking off over the returning drug cheats...

Had an apology for Melbourne not making the 8 but not one for St Kilda who surely must be around the same level as Melbourne. Got defensive when someone texted in to point this out. Also reckons no premiership hangover for Dogs which I think is on the cards (they are in the same boat as Hawthorn in 2009 imo). His bias was showing through.

Sydney FC have the A-league all wrapped up, and the usual unlikeable team will win the BBL...footy can't come back soon enough!

A league far from wrapped up

95% of SEN is insufferable though - so he'll be a good fit.

It would be nice if a persons predictions were weighted according to their past performance in predicting

Someone said doggies back to back 6 goals. I wonder if he predicted the Hawks in 2014 or 2015

It was Malty's 'mate' name escapes me. Tony Jones perhaps

People forget that the Bulldogs were 7th last year, then got a dream run to the premiership.
You can't take that away from them, but they were hardly a dominant team last year.

If they top the ladder this year, that would take some improvement.

Wasn't exactly a dream run. They had to beat WCE, Hawks, Giants and Swans. Tough run.

Gonna be tough to beat them though. Yet to lose a game, only team close on the table is Melbourne Victory who keep blowing it every chance they get a sniff

Sydney will win the premiers plate but certainly no guarantee to win the championship

People really need to stop talking down the Bulldogs premiership around here (not directed specifically at you Davo - just see it a bit around the traps). We all know how much it grates on us when idiots come on here and claim we 'cheated' in 2008 or that Freo would have won in 2013 had they been more accurate in front of goal. End of the day - their name is engraved on the cup, they get to unfurl the flag and all the ifs, buts and maybes don't matter.

Sure, they finished 7th, but they still won 15 games. They were only 1-2 wins away from making the top 4. On top of that - they beat both of the 2015 grand finalists - the team everyone is pencilling in for this year's flag and the Bludz Kulcture machine that is the $wans in the big one. Each game they thoroughly beat their opponents. They did so two years after an absolutely shocking off-season. They lost their captain for the entire season - and had they not had a shocker of an injury curse all season they'd likely have finished higher than 7th. Can they back it up this year? Who knows - that'll be a mental battle for the younger kids who may start to drink their own bathwater rather than knuckle down and realise they are the team everyone wants to beat. Honestly though - they had a great 2016 and like it or not, it was a good news story for the code. The bitterness towards their victory is getting a bit silly.

Yeah, the bulldogs throwing was just the "deliberate behinds" of 2008.

The umpires called them fair, so get over it.

Should just relax the throwing rule altogether. just say the arms need to be below the shoulders (or youll get gridiron), and the pass has to be within 90 degrees of the front of the thrower (or youll get rugby)

And more importantly, Shitney lost ......on that basis what wonderful summer it has been. Almost as enjoyable as the previous 3.

Only the deliberate behinds were legal in '08 and throwing has never been legal and everyone knows the doggies were throwing.

If their "handball" technique was illegal, it would have been called as such. As it happens, it was not being adjudicated due to umpiring instruction.
Were they in the spirit of the game? No. Were they technically throwing? Yes. Were they throwing based on the proscribed hallmaks dictated to the umpires? No.

The problem is that umpires don't pay frees for throwing. They pay frees for "X Y & Z*, which are hallmarks of throwing"

(* includes things like handballing from a moving rest hand, shovelling upwards, hand not balled into a fist, etc...)

The criterion should be simple. If the umpires were instructed that the ball must be propelled by a significant strike of the fist, then all the half scoops, moving "rest" hand, slings over the head, etc., would be caught out.
