Saw that too. FFS.....just seeing these things now makes so angry. Umpires have declared that those decisions last week were correct yet now they’re not paying it. WTF is going on???

Not only called them as correct but came out and said that they would be continuing to enforce them this round.

To add to the confusion - some are getting called and others aren’t. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for the players

I really hope we inflict feelings first loss of the season. They then go onto a downward spiral and finish 9th

So during the cripple fight last night, I realised what the least cut and dried rule in the afl is. It is the advantage rule. Last night, cripple 1, essendont was called advantage whenever everyone around the free kick has completely stopped. They were called back if there was the slightest sense that players were continuing to play and ignoring the free. It seems the umpire either simply doesn't like the players deciding for themselves, OR they decide on advantage, but it is subjective to whom this advantage applies.

This is so incorrect.

Free kicks spread the field and frees up congestion.

Allowing continuous play with dinky hand throws and balls being spilt from tackles compresses the field and encourages congestion.
Free kicks IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GROUND spread the field I think you meant to say, because free kicks along the boundary line -where the ball spends the majority of its time when it isn't locked inside a forward pocket- simply moves the defense and the congestion further back towards goal.

Like I said, the AFL & TV Networks have people with far sharper football brains than ours studying this problem. I'm pretty sure if it was solvable merely by awarding more free kicks they would've done that a long time ago.

Personally I would rather NOT give the umpires we had against the Bulldogs license to award more free kicks, but you may feel differently.

I don’t think there is any evidence that the afl have people who are smart or studying the problem. ;)

This is the committee tasked with rule changes etc. chaired by hocking.

Some good ones but I’m concerned by several of the members.

Competition Committee
Club Presidents: Colin Carter (Geelong), Eddie McGuire (Collingwood), Peggy O’Neal (Richmond)
Club CEOs: Andrew Fagan (Adelaide), Andrew Ireland(Sydney), Justin Reeves (Hawthorn)
Club Coaches: Chris Fagan (Brisbane), Brad Scott(North Melbourne)
Club Football Managers: Chris Davies (Port Adelaide), Craig Vozzo (West Coast)
Current AFL-listed Players: Patrick Dangerfield (AFLPA president), Steven May (Gold Coast captain)

The only thing I took away from this post was CRIPPLE FIGHT!

Way to slag Justin Reeves! :drunk:

Seriously though, I expect the Networks have their own people on the case. There's billions of $$$ involved so they'd be stupid not to as we know the AFL forever bows to their wishes when it comes to rule changes. (funny how so few people realize contact below the knees rule is there to prevent packs forming, same as penalizing the player who bravely throws his body over the ball)

Must of missed it - what did he do

Was it the jab to the gut
Or the
Nose sniff directed at Mummy
Ran past a Giants player, and elbowed him, with some level of force, to the back of the head. Giants player wasn't even looking.
