Sadly, none of this is new and accountability in 'all media' is rarely a consideration or a requirement as, despite often suggesting otherwise, they nearly always hide behind the content being presented as 'opinion'...

Cornes and most other representatives of the 'AFL media' all undertake the same modus operandi specifically during this time of the year - whereas they create opinion based talking points for the sake of having talking points to try and maintain an audience in the off-season. Rinse and repeat every off-season...

It's really not much different during the season proper, as the AFL media has generally involved into a circle jerk of mainly speculative opinion for the creation of content to support the ludicrous amount of pre and post game presentations and regular weekly footy shows.
I'm obviously in the minority as there must be market to sustain this..?
I reckon this one from David King on Fox Sports is worse AFL trade news 2021: Hawthorn trading out veterans, make deals or face eight-year rebuild, David King, analysis, Hawks problems (foxsports.com.au) It's just nonsense.

SOS backing Zac Williams to be one of the best half-back flankers in the AFL if he has a strong pre-season. He would say that wouldn't he, having recruited him on 800k pa. Carlton have two dashing half-back flanker on big dollars but both he and Saad only want to run one way. One of the reasons Saad left the Bombers was that he resented having to play a lockdown role at times.

May need more popcorn next season with Vossy and these two "defenders". As the Carlton moderator said after 19 in a row:"Don't ever moan about 5 goal run-ons again."

hard rebuilds guarantee a 7-8 year rebuild. Once your age demographic falls, you aren’t a contender, and because we’re the hawks, the media won’t jizz over our ‘young side’

refresh while staying in the premiership age demographic. Which is a mix of trading and drafting, but maybe a year or two leaning back to the draft to counterbalance the last few years?. But don’t refuse a great trade if one comes up.

Both have their positives and negatives. Harder rebuilds take longer but much more likely to set you up for sustained success if they work. Plus you spend more time at the bottom.

Refreshing you stay competitive but you don’t get to the potential highs of a hard rebuild but also don’t reach the lows. Instead try to pinch a flag or two.

Harder rebuild are riskier in that you might bottom out for an extended stretch. But if you get it right you can win a number of flags

North are piss weak if they don't nominate Daicos at first pick. The Pies are 100% committed to taking him so there's no chance in them declining to match.

Does being called out with pick 1 provide more income for that player in the first year?

Amon would be good, but we've really missed the boat there when we could've got him as steak knives in the Wingard deal.

Now one of the best wingers in the comp.

depends on if the board and admin can stay the course for 9 years. Wasn’t there a failed coup at the tigers just before their success?

didny Kennett want Clarko to coach box hill in his early years. Would kennet stick with Sammy for 7 years? (Hopefully kennet keeps his word and heleaves)

Nuts how some teams that weren't good enough over the past few seasons are just sitting on their hands this offseason

Lions and Port in particular aren't going to get any closer by doing nothing - gotta be proactive and look for a KPF in Port's case and another 40 goal a year forward in Brissie's case

‘covid related salary cap issues?

Kennett wanted to sack Clarko in 2010 just after 2008. And I believe the Richmond attempted board spill was in 2016.

Both would have been mistakes but that is part of the risks. Though the reward is winning 6 out of 8 flags between those teams. While most other teams got nothing

Few there we could make a big play for to fill a key defender spot given Hartigan won't have too many years left in him. Moore, McDonald, Barrass, Pearce.

14 for Gunston + 21/24 seems like one of the most obvious trades of all time, obviously without understanding the extent of Jacks back troubles and his willingness to relocate.
