Makes me wonder if the Luke Jackson trade will be crazy as a result or if Freo will see what damage it’s done to West Coast and trade carefully. Based on what Kelly cost I think Melbourne would have every right to ask for 3 first rounders being that Jackson still had so much upside.

One of the great flaws with the draft system. Talent and recruitment is one thing, development is another. A side that sits last generally sits there because of their inability to develop talent. The competitiveness and prestige of the draft pick aside (and short term monetary benefit), if you were a talented young bloke with some sense, you’d much rather go 7-8 in the draft than 1.

Luke Hodge the exception. Trying to think, but how many #1 picks have won a flag at the club they were drafted at?

Similar vibes to us in 2018, where absolutely everything went right for us in the run to finals and we ended up in the top 4, despite clearly being a class below. Hats off to them though, I’d be pretty stoked as a pies supporter regardless.
