Basically any player now can use this as precedence when choosing to bump and concussing someone. Can only hope Zantuck's case against Richmond is successful - maybe financial compensation may make the AFL take this more seriously.
presidents!! (fify)

You have to wonder if the roles had been reversed and Cripps was missing two weeks, would Ah Chee be playing this week or for the next 3 for that matter.

I think not - the tribunal system has been and always will be a joke

The AFL can't seem to get out of its own way a times.
To their credit, they have made progress on stamping out concussions. They've established suspensions for bumps impacting the head.
There was the Burton "loophole" that they closed, meaning even accidental impact to the head was penalised

And now they turn around an do this, and muddy the waters all over again?

It's very bizarre. You wonder if there is a "the fans want to see the big names playing!" backroom activity going on?

Meh, nothing we can do except
Just more "the AFL is really sports entertainment" confirmation bias for me

Probably worried he won’t get back on a return flight after the game.

Would be very interesting to see who the appeals board chairman Murray Kellman supports - something tells me it’s a Melbourne based side that plays in dark navy blue.
a quick Google search comes up with several other high-profile appeals that he knocked back as appeals board chairman, including Toby Greene, Mitch Robinson and Long from the Saints. Coincidences I'm sure

I do love the Greene one - ‘iT’s A bAd LoOk FoR KiDs’ - yup but seeing Ah Chee bumped high from behind and concussed is just a wonderful image for the game.

Ah Chee has been removed from Brisbane's side this round due to concussion. That really should be the only piece of evidence required for Cripps to have at least a one week suspension.
We might not have a game in 20 years time when all the lawsuits come in and point to acts like this not being punished.

It is an existential threat for contact sport in Australia. Unlike the American sports, the codes in Aus don't have enough money to fully self-insure and insurers are already nervous. The Zantuck case extending limitation periods (unless overturned) could open the floodgates to historic claims. Lachlan Armstrong QC is acting for Zantuck. Armstrong is a pre-eminent class action silk, not a run of the mill personal injury lawyer. It's been obvious for years where all of this is heading but the AFL and clubs continue to sleepwalk into it.

Tbh though I still don't get why people are dead set on acting like Greene is unjustly persecuted. It seems like every incident he has, people are deadset on defending it, meanwhile some North Melbourne high draft pick sulks in a game they get flogged in and he's public enemy number one with the media, fans happy to pile on!?

Head high contact should be taboo but it's just not and everyone makes a big deal about stupid bullshit that doesn't matter instead. At this rate I hope the AFL gets its just deserts with lawsuits.

Most Greene suspensions I 100% agree with. My point is he got 6 weeks for brushing past an umpire and Cripps is free to play this week after a high contact bump that led to a concussion. You should get a bigger suspension for bringing someone's health into disrepute than you do bringing the game into disrepute.

We all know the MRP is all about how much media reaction effects the AFL brand.

Action: Ablett / Selwood hits someone and knocks him out breaks his jaw
Media: Monday night... "Oh that is so out of character for Selwood / Ablett and he has come out and said sorry lets move on" (even though he did the exact same thing last week)
MRP: Fine of $2000

Action: Greene hits someone
Media: Monday night I can't believe this isn't been looked at more seriously he should go straight to the tribunal. Its not a great look for the AFL. What message is this sending to the kids and what will the parents of these kids be thinking. Will they be as willing to let their kids play this sport in the future. BLAH BLAH BLAH UPROAR UPROAR UPROAR
MRP: Straight to tribunal out for 4 weeks

The NRL will be even worse off. The sin-binning rampage aside - the amount of 'treatment' players get within tackles with the wrestling/grappling element now it is just absolutely disgusting viewing how little regard the NRL has for the head. I won't be shocked if Paul Green's death by suicide is linked to CTE - there would be a huge class action brewing there.

There is far too much legal intervention going on in football, and one of the many reasons long time supporters like myself don't love the game anywhere near as much as we once did. I'm waiting for the day a contentious free kick is awarded on the siren in a Grand Final, and a winning goal is kicked as a result. I can see legal action to determine the outcome of the game. You may not know who won the Premiership for 6 months or more.

Can you imagine if the Wayne Harmes incident in the 1979 Grand Final took place today? Imagine how long it would take to determine the outcome in the courts.

The AFL make a big fuss about unnecessary bumping and head high contact, and a number of players have either been fined or were banned from matches for doing less than what Cripps did. Maybe all those players should join together in a class action against AFL to be compensated for their losses. Why not make a total farce of the situation?

And in future, maybe we should have lawyers rather than umpires officiating games. There wouldn't be one free kick paid all day.

QCs have been involved in incidents like this for decades - before I was even born. It's not exactly a new thing. Leigh Matthews was even charged and found guilty (later overturned) of common assault for his actions on a footy field in 1985 - this isn't a modern invention.

Is the Horne contracted for next year? I assume yes, given #1 and that guernsey, that he was put onto a longer, non standard draftee deal in his first year?
