Is the Horne contracted for next year? I assume yes, given #1 and that guernsey, that he was put onto a longer, non standard draftee deal in his first year?
Min contract for a draftee is 2 years and I think that’s what he’s on.

Whole situation is toxic. Best for both parties to part ways but what that entails is tricky, especially given Adelaide invested in trading for Rankine

Can we sell him on a pitch of 'Dingley is the new Adelaide'. I would wager Dingley would be more interesting, have less serial killers and doesn't lie about what size a pint is.

North board has "info" that JHF was dropped due to refusing to play in his allocated position for this weekend
To think they had all of 2021 to interview him and those around him to find out if there be any issues.

Makes me think there might have been some queries given north list group wanted to push for the Adelaide trade before they were overruled.

What I am glad about is our drafting group seems to have placed a focus on character from the interviews I’ve heard.

Crows might have to choose. No way in hell they could get both in one trade period. TBH they’d struggle to get both over 2 periods

The North list group wanted to push for the trade because it was the smart thing to do even if JHF turns out an absolute star. Can't believe anyone would overrule that.

I'm not sure how much value there is in "selling the story" of Pick 1 given that its history of success (in a team sense) isn't actually that great.

Standard draftee contract is 2 years - he's contracted for next year regardless

North haven’t done him any favours. Like most draftees, he needs strong leadership around him to model himself on.
Instead, he’s been told he’s the messiah for a struggling club.

I agree it was the smart trade to do at the time regardless of how good JHF turns out to be.

Just that if they had of found any potential issues with his character that would have ruled out any positive for not doing the trade.

For North they at least have another pick 1 to sell to the fans this year. Maybe they will do it a bit better job of it the second time around.

bad management is why they're there if this is the case. and then they expect special compensation picks??

North need to trade JHF this year. That's where they'll get maximum value. While he's still under contract and the Crows can worry that JHF might entertain going to Port instead (this year or next).

If they wait until next year then they open themselves to him just walking out via the PSD and they'll get nothing. And based on his behaviour and the relationship between club and player I could even see him doing it just to spite them.

Still scratching my head over the Melbourne interest in Grundy if they have cash to burn. Geelong are by the far the most logical fit - already on top of the ladder but with terrible ruck stocks.
How's Melbourne's ruck stocks?. Think people are getting caught up in the fact that the Dees have Max Gawn. I get that but he has very little support outside of Jackson who may not be there next year. Geelong have at least 3 options who can full-time ruck. Esava the other one if it gets down to it. Gawn is 31. They would be remiss not to try and poach Grundy who is 3 years younger IMO.
