Crows recruiting has been spot on with Dawson and rankine. Both can be top 20 players in the comp if they aren't there already come seasons end.

Absolutely, incredible trading.

Drafting on the other hand - meh. Rachele a great pick, but pre 2021 their first rounders were;
Thilthorpe - 2
Pedlar - 11
McAsey - 6
Jones - 9
McHenry - 16
Fogarty - 12

Taking a lot of positives from tonights game in relation with us. Crows were where we were at 2 years ago. Kept cool heads and have a strong enough board to ignore the outside noise and stick to the rebuild plan.
Difference is that they’ve got Laird doing as he pleases in the middle. 21 disposals and 5 clearances halfway through the second.

As much as I love Ward and McKenzie, I see the problem with missing top picks - especially watching Rachele and Sheezel - they seem a level above or at least have reached a ceiling much faster and have the ability to hit the scoreboard with forward craft as well as being at home in the midfield.

Our biggest weakness as a team at the moment is getting it on the scoreboard. It just undoes all our good work in the middle and off half back. Heads drop and teams can attack us knowing they won't be punished taking risks.

Gotta make our next top 5 pick someone who can kick goals

They look much better than us because they have a better ruck (ROB), four experienced midfielders (Laird, Sloane, Keays and Dawson - who is new to the position, but a gun nonetheless) and a KPF (Walker) who has been in great form over the last two seasons.

The U23 talent is similar IMO:
Rachele
Rankine
Tilthorpe
Berry
Schoenberg
Soligo
Michalanney

All are good to elite talents. But I think we match up in this regard.

I wonder if there’ll be the usual carlton posters giving free advice on how to rebuild this week?

Do you want Hodge or Judd?
Judd went with a bullet and everyone was questioning our No.1 choice for 5 years.
I think we ended up the winner with a 3 time premiership captain Vs a 2 time Brownlow medalist.
Have patience grasshopper.

Seeing Rankine in action in front of a packed Adelaide Oval, Cameron lighting up the G and Lynch doing his thing for the Tigers makes me really annoyed about the expansion sides. They've denied us some great moments

While I take your point. And patience is a virtue. I think this is a bit different as I'm talking about drafting forward/mids as opposed to pure forwards.

Also while I take your point - Hodge and Judd and Ball were the clear top 3 that year and all of them played in flags. I'm just observing Rachele's trait to be able to play as a quality forward as well as a mid, his ability to kick goals is something we are sorely missing at the moment

The trajectory of Laird is what I'm hoping the wonderful Dylan Moore can take inspiration from.

Not blessed with anything other than a ridiculous work ethic and natural footballing ability. Moore really reminds me of him on the occasion he's been thrown into the middle.

If we could recruit smartly like they did that would be great. Amon is a good start, hopefully we can add another gun or two.

I harley think you need to worry this year.

I’ll show myself out

Funny watching players get dragged over the line like Will Day was last week. But no free kick for deliberate (insufficient blah blah)... UNLIKE Will Day last week.

Reckon Rachele would look a lot more lost playing in our side currently.

IMO Ward is going to be fine player and one of the elite two-way midfielders for us.
