We got rinsed in the Mitchell trade. We didn't win in any way as what we got in return was laughable for a player of Mitchell's calibre.
People here are acting like Day, Nash and Newcombe wouldn't have improved this season if Mitchell was still around. Did anyone watch them play this season? They were primed for big seasons and would have been much better players regardless.
Mitchell was already being phased out of the rotation last season, so he was hardly going to be in anyone's way this season, and definitely not to the extent it would have curbed their development.
As for Worpel, he looked fit and was in great condition this year. He's moved as smoothly as he ever has.

only thing we could've done is play it a bit smarter & kept him in his primary role to keep his trade value high.... issue with that is he may not wanted to leave & 12 mths is lost in development of the new crew.
we know what Mitch prioritised & yes we took a hit for it (like we always seem to do)

We were looking to move Mitchell on for very specific reasons so the picks we got for him is irrelevant. If we hadn't moved him we simply lose a spot in the middle for a youngster. There's no where else we could have placed Mitchell and still given the opportunity we gave this year to the likes of Day/Newk/Worpel/Nash. Yes, I agree the aforementioned players would have improved with or without Mitch but the point is whether we could have given them enough of an opportunity with Mitch taking up a spot.
Now to the stupid question being thrown around as to who won the trade? Hawthorn and Collingwood got what they expected out of the trade and it has got nothing to do with the picks attached to the trade.

So, tom thinks getting Brownlow votes in a game where his coaches weren't happy basically means he holds umpires view of the game higher than his coaches! Let's not forget, Horse felt that he couldn't get through to him anymore and was sick if telling him the same things week in week out , in fact he made him tag Sam in one game for him to understand that here are more important things in games other than winning heap of the ball! Yes, tom is talented, and he did give excellent service in his years at Hawthorn, much appreciated, biut that podcast is quite unfortunately lame. He could've worded it better.

Their BnF count was strange tbh, players all over the shop that should’ve been higher.
I still believe he’s on the fringe and was probably the next midfielder out of the side, but ironically he naturally plays a style that is cohesive to the high pressure finals nature and had a really good finals series.

There’s a lot of unhinged posts about Mitchell on here. 4th in the B&F of a premiership year and one of the best on ground in the grand final. Couldn’t ask for more from a recruit they paid very little for. Wright had an absolute blinder last trade period with Mitchell and Hill and then a premiership with both starring.
