Dan Merrett is a really smart guy and a great communicator. (As POBT points out - this also describes our men's head coach).

I'm sure after playing enough games of AFL he's more than aware of what it takes to structure up well - it would've been tough to execute that while so many turnovers occurred during his tenure.

Just because he made a bunch of comical errors in a comical 10 years for the Lions doesn't mean he doesn't know what *should* be happening.

Have spoken to a few women's coaches over the years (albeit not at professional levels) and they all say how much easier it is to coach girls than boys, simply because they listen and do exactly what they're instructed. There are no egos, or chest thumping - just a real obedience to the task and respect for the coach.

I think Starce has said just this in a few interviews.

What the F are the AFL going to do if we win the right to host the grand final when we play GC (away) on the same day?

Similarly, it'd be pretty interesting to see what sort of crowd we'd get at the Gabba for such an event...

But the AFL are hopeful an early grand final start time wouldn't force Lions fans to choose between the men's and women's games.

"There will be Brisbane fans heading down to the Gold Coast, but with a one-o'clock grand final start we'd be hopeful they could do both," AFL game development boss Simon Lethlean told AAP.

"The Gabba is the Lions' preference and we'll work on that basis to try and get a good result for everyone."

At the vic members forum Greg Swann said that the woman's game would be 1pm qld time at the Gabba and the club was looking at running buses after that to Metricon.

I have certainly found this with juniors. Plus you can talk to them about parts of their game they need to work on and they don't take it as a personal insult.

He was a very good one-on-one defender, and he had all the physical attributes, but I thought his positioning (as well as decision making with ball in hand) was often poor, especially in the second half of his career.

And that's what the girls seem so good at now. Even when Virgo (last week) and Lutkins (surprisingly, this week) have been redeployed up the ground, we haven't missed a beat - their positioning as a group has been exceptional.

I think his positioning suffered in later years because he didn't account for the slower speeds that come with age and injury. In his prime he didn't have such an issue - he used his speed to close quickly so could mislead attacking midfielders into thinking a forward was more open than he was.

His closing speed was fantastic, it is a big asset for any kpd

This would be a really great result.

As a teacher I can definitely vouch for this!

And what about actual Brisbane football fans, and not just those who are lions members? It would be a massive shafting to the Brisbane AFL community at large if they move it down the highway. The whole talking only about lions members who have reciprocal rights while ignoring the rest of the people who would want to go is utter crap.

Id be shocked if the qld govt would be charging too much to host it at the Gabba. Certainly no more than the Adelaide oval would be. If they are then Labor qld have well and truly lost the plot

Putting the GF during round 1 was just madness. Could have at least scheduled it as a stand-alone sunday game to maximise TV and crowd.
The arrogant pricks would have been counting on a Victorian team providing a curtain raiser at the MCG, I imagine. Heads in their arses as usual.

The whole point of the AFLW was to attract a new demographic (and score social points). Putting it on just before a big derby game is just an insult to those that genuinely follow the AFLW.
