I applauded when I saw that on tv. There should be a hell of a lot more of it.

But it begs the question - why hasn't Jones been that leader? Why hasn't Viney? Why hasn't Gawn or TMac?
Both Jones and Viney walked past it an ignored it, I don't think either are that type of leader.
I think it will be great for Frost, he did spoil the ball into a dangerous spot and alot of our defenders do it. All of Mays spoils were boundary side. It's gonna be huge

Nathan Jones said on radio that Steven May is the loudest and most direct leadership voice that he's ever had with him at Melbourne.
What did people think of the May Frost discussion? I thought it was brilliant leadership, being a leader is having those hard talks we haven't seen anything like that at Melbourne in years
I thought that was the sort of player accountability that this club has lacked for a long long time. After that happened frost and may both went up and spoiled over the boundary. they then both looked at each other a bit unsure, then it was a nod and a hand tap and problem sorted.

I’d prefer he wasn’t so demonstrative but if he has the skill to make Frost his best mate at the same time, then I’m all for it.

If he just goes over the top he’ll disenfranchise his teammates and dint their confidence.

It’s a hard balance.

His body language was pretty shite but who cares he's a gun and he had something to say and Frosty seemed to listen

Footy doesn't need to be played by 22 fully integrated and spiritually balanced individuals, it needs to be played by 22 gun footballers.

Liked it a lot, that’s a bit of a self-indictment on Jones’ part though.

I was happy with the initial bake he gave Frosty - he deserved to be called out on that ridiculous punch, but I think he carried it on too long. Didn't need to still be in his ear at the quarter break. That's the coaches job. It's a fine line - I think May needs to be careful not to be a bully. But isolated ranting for stupidity is fine. May would want to be careful too - I can imagine crazy Frosty going haywire on his ass some time at training if he pushed it too far. Frost has a bit of muscle on him now and if he snaps, May might regret it.

I know what you're saying about the body language, but I actually liked that as well from May. We were just murdered in that qrt, and he was ****ing pissed about it, I thought it said plenty about his competitive nature and his investment in the club.

Meanwhile, nothing was surer that the media would try to blow it up into a major issue.

It's only bullying if the bloke taking it is soft. Frost said he liked it and respected May for doing it.

Yeah, and I call BS on that. Seriously, have you ever liked somebody going at you all afternoon? Frosty's playing the team role and hosing down the controversy. But I have no doubt he's dirty about it. Did you see his face that day? Anyway, he's not soft by your definition, so whatever. But my question is on May and whether he can justify going at it that long. Can't he say his piece and just STFU? As I said, I was fine with the first bake May gave him, but why the constant ranting? Where does he get off being this high and mighty after 3 or 4 games and turning up to the club in the shape he did. Respect needs to be earned. He hasn't earned the right yet, IMO. I'll say I've got more respect for Frosty at this point than May - even though May is a better player (but not by that much). May had better be pretty F'ing perfect after this.

His face was that of a guy who didn't enjoy the feedback. Not alot of people enjoy that feed back immediately like that but that doesn't mean that later on you can't reflect on it and see it for what it was.
You can't just continually pat people on the back and expect results. Did you see Frosts next contest? He ****ing listened and responded to Mays obvious message. Have you ever worked with a mate before? They don't love it when you confront them like that but you move on.

I don't know, because I don't know what was being said or how it was conveyed. But direct is better than wishy washy.
Indirect leaves too many questions, clouding the focus.

Direct gives an answer to the recipient straight away, as to the point of the disaggreemant, so it can be addressed without guessing and assumptions, that cause distractions following.

I liked it. We need more passion, not less. If hes getting into verbal stoushes every week then there might be a problem
Agreed this club needs mpore boldness and directness, as long as it doesn't go too far. It has to be done in the right spirit. Then all is good. Has to be construtive.

May needs to earn a bit more credibility and respect at our club before goes into that sort of territory in my opinion.

If I was the captain I would have spoken to him after the game and said ‘get your point across, but don’t go carrying on like that - you’ve just walked in the door and havnt earnt the respect of the senior group yourself yet’.

I’d have told him to apologise to Frost and make sure Frost isn’t holding onto it.

Well with all due respect to you ... How do you know he hasn't already earned the respect of the playing group to carry on like that?

Its bullying only if its intended to be negative and to hurt, and harm.
May was trying to be constructive, and his aim was for the betterment.
That is not bullying.
How do you know that he was being constructive? He could have been hurling every insult he could think of at him for all we know.

His team mates obviously didn’t think he was being constructive or they wouldn’t have intervened.

He could have just made his point and shut up. Instead, he kept carrying on and humiliating him.

I accept that everyone is different and you can’t expect a whole team of saints. May let his anger get the better of him. It’s not a hanging offence. It’s obviously part and parcel of who he is.

But what he did was wrong and it shouldn’t be defended.

So your retort to it being constructive is that you can't assume what was said ... and your argument is based on assuming what was said?

With all due respect in return, largely because he turned up fat, got injured, got suspended, got boozed, got injured again and has only played 4 ****ing games.

Look, I think he’s a very good player and will work out well - but if I’m captain I’m thinking about supporting all players in the side and fostering team harmony (and healthy competitiveness).

Frost is going along quite well at the moment and deserves to be treated with respect (everyone does). May isn’t in a position to be pushing those boundaries yet.

What a load of nonsense.
Being a captain is about getting the best out of everyone, if May was walking around screaming at everyone then sure it's an issue but he picked his mark. Delivered his feedback and Frost immediately responded in the next bit of play. Have you ever seen Nathan Jones or Jack Viney do that? No. There is no set amount of time games you need to play to be a leader
