I don't know if I've missed a post from you with new information regarding this? But I'm assuming this is still based on the gameday conversation you heard behind the bench
Why would we need more quotes than that? Im unsure how much more evidence you require than a person who deals with players and injuries commenting on the seriousness of the injury, which directly contradicts mahoneys statement in which he acknowledged he was still experiencing concussion symptoms (which everyone I've asked had said they wouldn't refer to continuing symptoms in the following days as "mild")

Don't think I can be bothered going to anymore games this year. The hours I work only leave weekends to hang with my baby daughter. This team is giving us nothing in return for our time and money. Don't think I will renew the membership next year either. Shame, would have been 10 years.

Mate I'm a uni student and whilst I don't have your reponsibilities I understand where you're coming from with going to games. I'll still keep my membership but shit it just ruins your day.

Sometimes you just gotta weigh it up, and pull the plug. I look back at the last 9 years and I don't see a lot of fun. I'm actually starting to regret how much time and energy I've wasted with this club, this sport. **** at least the Wizards can make the playoffs occasionally.

Yep, I've been a member since the day I was old enough to work. Attend almost every home game, even most in the Neeld days, and losses have never hurt more than some of them this year. This club is a WOTFAM (waste of time & ****ing money)

Yeh I hear you, sometimes you start to consider if the negatives outweigh the positives of the whole experience. Maybe just stop tuning it until they actually make the finals (ha), but I'll probably get over it in a few days, though I almost certainly won't be watching next weeks game.

I watch less neutral games each year, footy has become a bit deranged lately where running into open space towards the goals is more common than you know, having forwards, that might actually lead up towards to the ball carrier, and not away from them...

yeah i'm out, at least for next week. way too busy and the investment week in week out in time, energy and emotion is just not worth it at the moment. for at least this week, go **** yourself melbourne

It is just so stressful. I know footy is a game and all that but I need to pull myself away from it a bit more. Like darthsidusfan I've been incredibly stressed out about games, round 1 I was shitting bricks three months out.

I don't begrudge any melbourne supporter for walking away. We are all on this earth for a very short time. This club has already taken years off my life

Don't know what's wrong with you lot. We've gone from getting smashed every week to throwing away very winnable games. Progress! :rainbow:

Going to the football is for enjoyment, if you dont have the time, the money, or won't enjoy it, then you don't need to go.

I often would rather sit on the couch and watch footy for 2.5 hours than go to the game and have 4-5 hours of my weekend taken away after travel etc.

It's a toxic relationship. As a dees supporter you are just constantly getting your hopes smashed. In a fair world after a decade of complete ineptitude and patheticness you'd then experience ten years of domination. Not with our beloved Dees.

Things I'm sick of:
- never, ever feeling confident about a game;
- having forwards who only know how to play from behind and lead back towards goals. This used to be known as cheating in my day;
- having four defenders go up for the spoil leaving two opponents unchecked on the deck;
- not playing finals;
- Jack ****ing Watts. Play like a man for god's sake. He is still the weakest guy running around in AFL footy. That play in the third quarter when he coughed the ball up after being tackled by the brute Isaac Smith is him in a nutshell;
- playing keepers off with the ball. You win games Goody by kicking a higher score than the opposition not by getting more possessions you ****ing window licker.

The fact you parade a kid around as your excuse not to go..... pathetic.

If you only have weekends to spend with your child and a winning teams stops you from doing that?

And by that, i mean if thats all you have why the hell are you at the football?

I don't know why we're melting down so much, we could be 7-0 if things had gone our way - especially injuries.

We aren't far off.
'We aren't far off', that familiar refrain. We think we are getting closer to the horizon. We aren't. We are 3-4 and have lost to Hawthorn, Freo, Richmond and Geelong. We also did our best to lose to Carlton. We are as unreliable as the Pakistan test team.

Of course things haven't gone our way but thats the point TPM, I don't want to deal with what could have beens when we're sitting at 3-4. We can't change the past at all. I'm just hoping this year is our Geelong 2006 and we step up into a finals ready side next year.

We're clearly not finals bound this year, barring some extraordinary 1987 type effort. The way I see it, we have been exposed in a couple of areas and we need to address those before we can take the next step. We clearly can't play without a ruckman, so forget us being anything close to reliable this year through that alone.

A lot of us get driven around the proverbial bend by the way our team plays and how we collapse under pressure, and anyone feeling that way should definitely take step back and focus on other things. It doesn't make you a turncoat or an A-hole to step back from footy for a while. Sometimes it's just self-preservation. Nowhere on our membership cards does it say we have a duty to become mentally unwell for the sake of our club. So anyone who feels this way and wants to disengage won't get any judgement from me.

On a football level. I get the feeling we need to plug a few holes in our list and generate a bit more competition for spots. If we can do that, we'll get closer to finding our genuine best 22 and not be playing players as experiments to see what they are made of. That means this year becomes the experimental year to find out where our holes are, who is dead wood, and getting more games into the young blokes. As long as you have a third of your team still shy of 50 games, you don't get consistency. You just don't.

We are still mentally fragile, no doubt, but I don't feel like it's like the Mark Neeld level of fragile. I see more grit in this team, with a couple of players who are like deer in the headlights under pressure. We need to get rid of the deer, and get more experience into what is essentially an inexperienced team that doesn't think like a unit yet.

I don't think Goodwin is really the problem. He's still learning on the job. He's making mistakes, but he's creative, he has ideas. He's got the makings of a good coach.

At the start of the year I was demanding finals like the rest of us, but now that it's clearly not on track to happen, I'm choosing to keep a cool head about it and think of what we need to do to make up our shortfalls.

It's either think about it this way and still be able to enjoy whatever improvements we make this year, or just bow out and see you all next year. I'm as pissed as the next guy about waiting another year, but I've gotta keep a cool head and not let it get to me. So this is what I'm going to try to do. No doubt there will still be moments when I lose it though! Losing close games is never fun no matter how much perspective you try to have.

You guys are getting caught up in it way too much. Losing today sucked, but we were one of 6 clubs who entered the weekend fully expecting to win and didn't. That's footy. Upsets happen every weekend. We lost. Got 0 points. Last week we won and got 4 points. Next week we may win and it won't be 'the making of this side' if we do. It will just be 4 points. We might lose to the Suns at home, we might beat West Coast in Perth? Who bloody knows, take the highs with the lows and don't let your lives hinge on each week. In 2017 any team can beat anyone.

Melbournes problem is for my whole life we have had the worst senior players in the competition. Every year Melbourne has the group of young kids that have a future and they surrounded by inconsistent campaigners who only turn up when they feel like it.

When was the last time we had a back to back AA?? Gary Lyon?

Every year teams have superstars that destroy us and you know will play well before the game and we don't have that

Until our senior players carry their load week in week out then we will end up with another generation of kids who are inconsistent

Our middle tier has also all flat lined at B grade levels

Tysons best season is in the distance
Tom Mcdonald is error prone and stupid
Watts has confidence and is pretty but still does fundamentals like a 1st year player
Melksham has been dropped
Kent/ANB/Hannan/Kennedy/JKH/Garland/Trenners etc are spending time in the reserves every season
Hogan still looks as if his first season was his best, he needs a specific coach
Frost actually looks like he's improved since last year
Viney up until yesterday was having a down year after being made captain for an unclear reason

I agree, in general, but Oliver and Petracca have A grade written all over them - if they fail to get there, that's an inditement on the club and the players. Salem has A grade potential. Gawn is A+ grade already. Jones is on the cusp of A/B. Watts could be A on talent - but will never be physical enough to get beyond B grade. Not sure that Hogan was ever as good as the hype. If he could be a solid B+ I'd be happy with that.

The way I see it, we've got a bunch of should-be B-graders who mostly play like C-graders. That's the first thing to fix up.

The question then becomes, how many A graders does a club need to win a flag? If we had 5, would that be enough? Do the rest all need to be B-graders? Or are a few C's ok too?

Oliver and Trac should be A graders
But so should have Morton Trenners Gysberts Bate Petterd Jurrah Moloney Sylvia McLean Watts Cook Frawley Mcdonald etc etc etc

I don't have faith in this club developing a star. We have had one star in Flower since the 60s.

Bulldogs are a great example, sure they developed Stringer/Bont/Dahlhaus/Macrae etc but that's not what won them the flag

It was also Beverages ability to turn Murphy Boyd Wood into AAs after the first 2 were close to the end and Wood was really an average player
Morris is a gun.

There senior players protect their kids and develop them
Ours suck.

Agree about the Bulldogs, but we aren't really getting smashed or intimidated anymore. I think we need incremental improvement (more games into the right players), a couple of trades, delisting some very dead wood, smarter players in tight matches, more understanding of the gameplan. I don't know if it will ever happen, but it certainly could happen if they want it badly enough.

No we aren't getting smashed but nor should we, we have Vince Lewis Hogan Gawn Mcdonald Frost Jetta Jones Viney Tyson Hibberd Garlett and even Pedo. That's a lot of senior players.
Our senior players are all just OK. We somehow need pass the baton of responsibility onto the new breed and have them develop not flounder like all of our other kids

I'm very frustrated after yesterday, hawks good players play well.. ours dont. This always happens

Yeah, I hear you mate. I think Oliver and Petracca will push on naturally. They are competitive beasts. Salem has something about him too. Viney can do it - although his ceiling is not as high as we probably once thought it was. I hope these kinds of guys will start driving standards. I think Vince is hurting morale - poor decisions and charging in there trying to take on the world and then delivering it straight to the opposition far too often. I think that sort of thing is undermining our own standards. He should be reamed in front of the team and dropped to Casey when he does that sort of crap - as should anyone else that starts doing it. I just think it comes down to how tolerant we are of slow progress. As a club we have grown accustomed to it. We need to learn how to be highly intolerant of it. Goodwin will need to get tougher on perennial mistake makers. We need to be more accountable.
