Mega Thread General MFC Discussion IV – Roffey and Pert Gone, Bartlett Case Settled, Board Election Finalised

Very different from the reporting though. Even on Monday Caro and Ralph were saying she'd see out her term which had a year to go.
Neither of them are great at knowing what's happening though, remember when Ralph said Sparrow was a chance to go to Adelaide about 3 hours before his re-signing was announced?

Been plenty of people talking about Roffey being on the way out for a fair while now.

So did Smith say no or did they decide not to go with him as president because he'd rock the boat? Promoting from within doesn't fill me with any confidence
He's going overseas soon I think. Eddie Mcguire was saying that he was probably going to take the empty seat on the board and be president once he's back.

So this is just temporary with Green?

Surprised Green has been given the nod straight away. Part of me wanted a more experienced, external operator, but at least you know he'll be invested in the footy side of things.

Now to see if he can help negotiate a god damn training base lol.
Green will be very temporary. Think he might have been chosen just for appearances for fans, he's a lovely bloke but not the sharpest tool in the shed. I'll be pretty disappointed if he does in fact lead the board review himself.

Green gets sucked into twitter fights but I guess that is considered presidential these days.

Green will be temporary. Smith will be the man I reckon after next season. Probably a good move. Greeny (and Smith) at least both have experience as a player. So hopefully that equates to more understanding of what our onfield management requires.

I don't think that's been explicitly said yet but I would hope so.
I hope so too, if not it very much feels like US politics this. Putting up someone completely unqualified, but he's a name that the nuffies recognise so that's good enough to buy some votes/goodwill, just a puppet for others behind the scenes.

What gets me is that if Smith does come in next year I would have thought Roffey would just wait it out until then. It feels like the board completely turned on her or there's some other reason she needs to go right now.

Scared of the independent review and a potential board challenge I'd say. Let's look like we are doing something now. Perty and others trying to save themselves.

Suspect it’s just that she became very on the nose very publicly and very recently. They want the spotlight off themselves so a quick switcheroo might achieve that.

I’d like Smith to take over when available. This might be a night watchman scenario

Is that confirmed somewhere?
Green said board renewal would be the focus of his presidency and flagged the possibility that his leadership would be for the short term if a suitable candidate was found.

Former Melbourne Cricket Club president Stephen Smith has been heavily linked to a board role in recent weeks.

“I have told my colleagues that I will lead the review process and once it is completed I would like to give the Board the opportunity to vote again on the Presidency.

“This will be a collaborative reset of the Board and it’s important that we are honest with each other about where we have succeeded, and where we could have done better.

“There is no doubt that we need to turn the faith and belief of our members and fans into results and performance, and the Board stands at the top of that process."

Hey Roffey!
