Complete liability, was so happy when we finally showed him the door. Built like Tarzan, plays like Forrest Gump.
Hmm... dunno, I was fairly mixed about Frost. His kicking out of defence was heart attack inducing stuff but he actually did have some decent traits. Great speed his size and was a pretty good tackler.

Omac, on the other hand, had zero speed and zero mongrel. I can remember Hawkins made him look like a poor man's Tom Gillies in the game where they beat us after the siren back in 2018.

I mean, it did win him a flag so he did something right. Needs to correct and get the balance right because we have played more defensive since the flag but you can't fault him for abandoning the 2018 game plan that saw us embarrassed in the Prelim and torn apart by Richmond and Collingwood through the year too. The 6-6-6 intro hurt his innovation as well because in 2018 he had players coming off the back of the square more and using the wings differently (Hogan/TMac rotating wing/forward).

This post is mental, we haven't been the best to watch over recent years but there's still been plenty of great wins. I'll take that any day over some of the dross years I've spent supporting this club and even over the Daniher years where we could crush shit teams but never really bother the good teams.
An yet more people here agree with my post than yours. Id love to hear about these plenty of great wins.

Gump was a pretty good football player though.

Frost was Buddy kryptonite. Never got the hate from some supporters, sure he had some massive brain farts but he was far from our biggest problem. I think TMac made just as many of those same brain farts in defense in the first part of his career and everyone fapped over him, never understood the difference.

Just this year the Port, Cats, Essendon, Suns wins were pretty enjoyable. We also belted Dogs and Hawks early in the season which may not have been awesome games from a neutral perspective but I'll take 40 point wins any day of the week. They won't all be belters, and yeah our win on ANZAC Eve was a terrible game (sure there's probably others as well).

I take your point about our gameplan but I think you've gone too far in the other direction. Those 2018 losses to the Cats were bloody frustrating as all hell!

I think you can be pessimistic or optimistic about next year. Like every team some luck with fitness and form is required.
A fit and firing Trac

Clarry off a full preseason

Gawn getting required rest in season

A fit May and Lever. Lever seems to struggle when he isn’t close to 100%. Seems to also struggle off limited preparation compared to others.

Petty doing a full preseason. I was at training in mid-late January this year. He wasn’t even there walking laps.

Development of the younger guys continuing.

All reason to be optimistic. I really can’t see us imploding and fining bottom 4. I’m not totally sold on us and thinking more 6-10. With a slight chance of going either side of that. Another season like this year and it’ll be goodbye Goody.

The off field stuff is a worry too so will be interesting to see how the review goes. It is concerning that Pert involved in the review process though.

yeah the 6-6-6 rule was a doozy, a lot of things went wrong in 2019 but that killed a lot of offensive innovation. 2021 just about everything went right, we were more defensive but there was a balance and we were still capable of some free-flowing football. That seems to have entirely disappeared.

taking off the 2018 rose coloured glasses, yeah it was bloody frustrating at times the way we leaked goals, I think most people just want a bit more of a balance and some flair going forward.

Plenty of enjoyable wins this year. Even in an ultimately disappointing season, still plenty to like.

For some reason the game against the saints in 2015 as one that just makes me so angry still. How you concede a joe the goose after hitting the lead with 40 odd seconds to go is ridiculous.
It doesn't bother me because of two reasons.

1.The last quarter was hard to watch, was basically played in saints forward line, they deserve the win.

2. We beat Geelong at KP the following week.

Looking at the game the second half was hot garbage from both teams. At half time scoreline was 9.6 to 8.6 and finished with 12.13 to 12.11. My memory of the last quarter was flooded backline and terrible entries. We went forward once and scored and then they replied in the last 30 seconds or something.

Sport should be about entertainment first and foremost. If it's solely results based then why even watch? Just check the scores at the end and celebrate. I've never enjoyed watching games from start to finish less than now, even when we were dog shit. Slow predictable low scoring games where we might win or lose by 6 points suck. We play like it's Paul Roos first team trying to keep games close, just with better players.

I enjoyed the wins in 2017-18 more than now

Fair enough, that's your prerogative. Entertainment is a key part of it, personally I get more entertainment from winning. I want MFC to be successful, if they play like the Harlem Globetrotters doing that it's a bonus but winning is first and foremost. When they play boring and lose (like 22/23 finals and 2024 season) that's when it becomes an issue. But there have still been some entertaining wins amongst that in my opinion. I won't deny that sometimes sitting at a game watching boring footy I do question my life choices but not as much as I did turning up to watch us under Neeld.

I do agree I'm less inclined to watch games start to finish vs in the past and that goes for all games, I watched the ekast amount of footy this year than I have in years. Seems like this is a common theme amongst supporters whose teams have recently won a premiership though, once you finally taste success it's like what else is there?

I think part of it is choices in life. 20 years ago there wasn't much else to do. Now you have unlimited streaming choices, access to other sports, smart phones etc you don't have to sit through it anymore without knowing you can entertain yourself in other ways.

Does the premiership make it harder as well? Probably, because now I've tasted it the home and away games done feel as important, now the bars been set at being a good finals team not just a regular home and away team.

There have been some good wins sure, but for a team that was back to back top 4, there was no where near as many as there should have been
