I disagree. But hey, most around here are all doom and gloom so I'm not surprised by the reactions on here.

It clearly shows the club wants to play a more balanced style. That's what you want yeah? I'm just confused. You've been saying all year it's our midfield that's the problem and not our F50. The report highlights that. Isn't that a good thing? Our F50 has been a mess. So I don't see a negative in moving our best line coach to this position. At least it shows intent to improve at the offensive end. Maybe you were expecting Goodwin and Richo to be sacked? Was never going to happen. But the club is publicly on notice. Even Kaneo has said we are the club with the most to do. Heat is on which is what we wanted yeah? If we all think Goodwin won't be able to turn it around, then in 12 months time he's gone anyway. But aiming for finals while we have Trac, Oliver, Gawn, May, Lever, Fritta, Koz, Lingers etc isn't hard to understand.
Goody demanding we keep Oliver, but the midfield is going to change. Hmmmm, sure thing mate. 👍

We did win a flag with Oliver in the middle only a few years ago. I'm not saying things will change in the middle dramatically enough to be playing competitive finals, but at least the report acknowledges that getting the midfield right is critical to success. Along with changing the method of play What else do you want the report to say? Again, if you were expecting Goody sacked, then that was never happening. Absolutely nothing wrong with the club proclaiming finals is a goal next season. Puts Goodwin in the gun. Clear expectations on the way we play and where the club wants to be. Again, whether Goodwin can do it is doubtful, but don't you want him to fail anyway?

Our forward line wasn't so hot when Chaplin was in charge of it previously. I don't understand that thought process whereby you take someone who is good elsewhere to fix something somewhere else, rather than just going out there and getting the best freakin' guy you can find to fill the role you need filling. This is the kind of shit that Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn don't do. They just try and get the best in the business.

Wasn't he our forward coach during 2016-2018?

We scored okay at the time.

We also had a very aggressive gameplan. I didn't think leading patterns, I50 efficiency, etc., were much chop.
We still played a forward half game that tried to lock the ball in the forwardline and score off repeat entries so yeah i50 efficiency goes down from that style of play. The difference was that we were happy to give up more on defense so we had extra numbers in attack when we won it.

Like all assistants it's very hard to say how good Chaplin is.

I think we look back on that era with rose tinted glasses compared to the scoring of this era. Yeah mostly it was better. But we still had some awful scores in losses and forward entry issues

Looking through 2018
Round 4 Loss against Hawthorn 6.12 48
Round 5 Loss against Richmond 8.8 56
Then we go on a roll
even though we did eventually get reflection for it on the scoreboard Round 8 Vs Gold Coast we registered 83 Inside 50s, a lot of which if i remember the game at the time, we're very ordinary
Round 14 loss against port was close but wasted chances
We Recover for a while
Round 21 Vs Sydney we only lose it by 9 points. but at half time we were 3.12 to their 7.2
First Final is nerves with 10.15
Then the utter falling apart of all lines in the prelim

That's just 2018 anyways
I can think of being really wasteful against geelong in 2017
Grinding out a disgusting victory against the suns in 2016 with Lynch missing after the siren
gross losses against Sydney throughout that era
off the top of my head

I do also think the rule changes made us rethink how we played. We used to push our defenders up a bit. Or even that Diamond defence shit. I think we also at one point had our wingers and maybe even a forward once coming in off the back of the square

I thought our F50 worked quite well with him in charge of it.

I'm mostly here with you. I don't care if he previously did the job or not, it just seems stupid to take away from our biggest strength to try and plug our biggest weakness. Keep Chaplin with the backs to maintain that strength and get someone in who knows about forward craft etc to coach the forwards.

Ultimately what does it matter? Who honestly thinks Goodwin will turn it all around anyway? Most on here want us to fail so shouldn't everyone be happy with a change that will most likely fall flat? Maybe Bassett is more comfortable coaching the backline and the club didn't want to let Chaplin go. It's not like Chaplin isn't available to help with the backline anyway. The midfield is the one area that probably needs to most work. If we can't get that right then it won't matter who's coaching the F50.

You are right, it doesn't matter as long as Goody is coach. But what else are we going to talk about right now?

It's kinda ironic the same slit my wrists squad are sooking it up about the changes or the review, are the same ones wanting Goodwin out. If these changes are so bad and the review not to their liking, then won't the club fail again next season? Which means Goodwin will be gone?

I don't see the problem in having expectations of finals in 2025. For one, it puts heat on Goodwin. Secondly, what's the point of finishing low as we gave our pick to Essendon. So can't even get a high draft pick. The higher we finish the better it is for the club. Most of the slit my wrists squad are GWS supporters anyway lol
