If we are still in for a ruckman in one of our later picks I think Ben Brown from Werribee could be a good option. 199cm kicked a fair few goals including a bag of 5 and bags of 3 on multiple occasions. He is only 20 so plenty of upside. Very quick for a big man as well and tested really well at the combine. Could get him at 53.

Why would you be disappointed in Gardiner?
With pick 15, we definitely need to go best available. Gardiner is rated higher than he should be because of the lack of key position players in the draft. I'd have him in the 25-30 bracket in terms of draft power rankings but I'd say he'll go to the Saints at pick 18/19 or early 20s.

People on this forum have made it pretty clear that we need a key backman who can match up on big power forwards. Gardiner doesn't provide that unfortunately as he hasn't got the height (192-194cm). Don't get me wrong, Gardiner's a great competitor and I think he will develop into a reasonably solid back but I feel like the Swans would benefit in investing in one of the flashier, outside or stronger bodied, inside midfielders that should be available at 15.

Acres and Taylor then? I agree with what you are saying re Gardiner, next year is meant to be KPP heaven so we might as well cash in then, its not like Gardiner would be ready to take on CHB or FB within 2 years of being on the list so might as well wait till next year.
TBH I actually can see us trading for an established backman next year rather than develop out own.

I'm a big, big fan of Acres - but that more says a lot about the type of midfielders I enjoy watching. I like the 185-190cm athletic wingman/flankers who also can play an outside midfield role. Not in regard to potential but rather mould, Acres is more like a Pendlebury or Fyfe.
I'm less sure of Taylor to be honest. He's quick and can break the lines but his decision making is sometimes a bit questionable - suicide handballs to teammates and sometimes is caught in two minds. Still would much rather us take Taylor than a KPP or Ruck, unless Cameron McCarthy slides.

Ben brown? Really? He has such a bad haircut or just bad hair. He looks like he has perennially got his finger in the electric socket. Other than that he is seen more as a key forward.

Agree Nankervis is our man it just seems like he's the sort of guy that will do anything to get drafted

Yeah terrible hair, yes more a forward but I think he could develop into a ruckman.

I know it gets said every year, but the first round of the draft looks very strong and surely we will wont miss again with a pick in the teens. Would love to get Acres at 15 and Lobb with our next pick.

Lets have an all-WA draft so I can try to forgive our WA scout for the 2010 incident...

15 - Blake Acres
32 - Patrick Cripps
35 - Jonathon Marsh
44 - Darcy Cameron
53 - Steven Edwards

Can't see Lobb and Garlett lasting until pick 32.

Even though we have been linked to Zak Jones and Zac Merrett.
I still hope we would have the smarts to take a Acres, Crouch or even a Sheed.

15: Blake Acres
32: Giles/McStay
35: Jonathan Marsh (Reminds me of Goodes)
44: Jay Kennedy-Harris
53: Chris Cain (If we end up using this pic)

A fair few phantom drafts from reputable posters have us taking BlAcres at 15, which is a very good sign. Will be interesting to see what Twomey comes up with tonight and Quayle tomorrow.

I think Acres might be the best pick available for us, so probably our likely pick. did a little phantom for fun and my sliders were........Freeman and McCarthy. Small chance for Billings to slide out I feel too. Maybe Billings and Scharenberg swap places
1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Billing
4. Bontempelli
5. KK
6. Aish
7. Scharenberg
8. McDonald
9. Salem
10. Lennon
11. Sheed
12. Jones
13. Dunstan
14. Taylor
15. Acres

The problem with drafting Acres at 15 is, it would mean actually using a "best available player remaining" policy rather than what seems to be our very unique "2nd rounder we really like, but who might not quite make it to our pick... so we had better draft with our first rounder to be safe" policy.

I would not be at all upset if we got Acres as he seems to be really promising. All we would have to do is teach him how to present himself to the media so he doesn't say "crap" during interviews :p
