North are 3-15 since mid season last year, not exactly the same situation as we are at the moment.

We also don't have many options to bring in, either because they've been tried (Hutch, Jetta, Mackenzie, Schofield), are in our best team but injured (Naitanui, Cripps, Lycett, Nelson), might be pushing for selection but been injured (Venables, Partington, Rioli, Waterman, Cole) or haven't shown consistent WAFL form (Allen, Lamb, Rotham, Karpany). That's every player on our senior list that didn't play today.

If you include the rookie list, injured (Petrie, Tunbridge, Watson), gone forever (Brophy) that leaves (McInnes, Gorter, Snadden and Bayok) none of whom have been upgraded.

What are the changes we could even make at the moment? I'd be playing Venables, Partington, Cole, Karpany and Rioli at times when they're fit and have played a few good WAFL games. None of them are in that position right now.

Agree our depth at the moment isn't available / ready. I've mentioned elsewhere that its a shame Rioli, Partington, Watson and Cole are injured and Venerables lacks fitness.

The McGovern forward option looks like its been put on hold. Maybe Barrass gets tried up forward, he was trialled forward early in the preseason.

Do we roll the dice with Lamb instead of Hill?

Cole's back playing in the WAFL, just needs another week and then we'll bring him in to dominate

I think we have a forward pressure issue with Cripps out, given that we are playing two ruckmen at the moment. Don't think Lamb helps us in that regard.

Could we bring Karps in for forward fifty pressure?

I think we would get more out of Karps than either Mutimer or Lamb.

Karps is a SA lad who may even play better in Adelaide than other away venue's as well. Also need to play him a bit to lift his 'steak knives' value in the McGovern trade.;):D

Simpson doesn't have a system enabling drafted players to get AFL experience. A few do of course but most get sent to East Perth to waste away. Because of this we don't have any exciting youngsters ready to come into the team. Congratulations to Murtimer. Yay.
I've been quite enthused by our selections at the draft. Quite a few of the players when interviewed have said they want to been known for their competitiveness. It takes time. Simmo has made the most of these shitty spuds and fingers crossed we move them on now.

Fremantle wasted 2016 by playing spuds while their youngsters languished at Peel.I feel we are doing the same. After 2015 surely thew Eagles must have realised we had/ have problems.Taking out NN the best one on one footballer in the comp and Lycett also an up and coming gun and replacing them with Mitchell,Barass and Nelson surely doesnt make us a better side.BF posters continuously say that you cant just dump 5 or 6 players because there are no youngsters dominating in WAFL.If these kids arnt good enough get rid of them.Karpany debuted last year in a very promising display only to be dropped immediately. So much for backing your younguns in.As Gerald Healy?? said after the Hawks game; "It will be a very different Eagles side that plays its next game here at the G".The scary thing from a supporters point of view is i dont think it will be.Where is the Clubs ruthless streak? We cant continually back in a squad that Jellyfishes away from home and superstars at home.Part of the problem with this is that a youngster makes his debut in Melbourne and we do the jellyfish; The kid sees senior players taking shortcuts so they do too.Its a disease easily caught.Look at the Vardy incident on Saturday;he hurt his elbow because he didnt committ his body and run in a straight line, he stepped to the side and hung his arm out.The blokes the size of a house but took the soft option. Not a word said about it anywhere.Symtomatic of our side.Simpson probably made a GF too early and has invested too heavily in this playing group.Take a leaf out of Beveriges book.Back your squad not your team.Bring in fresh faces and back them in.Looking at our coaching panel; theres some very talented ex-footballers in it ; but not many tough people and every club needs some of that.Lets get over the "We are a drug free clean living club" and get a bit nasty!!!

We're not a bottom 4 team rebuilding

I'm saying this before tomorrow's game so that it doesn't look like I'm having a melt. I have just thought that apart from the last few rounds last year we have been such an an attractive team to watch. I love the club and watch all the games but it's like a breath of fresh air to watch some of the skilled teams who go hard at the ball play at times. Iv come to realise that i enjoy other games more. The eagles style, effort and enthusiasm just make me feel flat even after a win.

Couldnt have said it better myself.People keep quoting 2015, but we were younger ,faster, new coach......and we had NN!! Watching Wellingham bumbling around,Priddis plodding around,Butler doing enough to survive,Hill and Lecras and Masten destroying sides at home and running around at the G with their tails between their legs then watching the Bullies play their fast tough committed brand of footy; just not the same.Nobody to bring in?.Lamb is improving,Karpany deserves a run [ a run is more than one game ] Watson should have had a game before he got injured.Cole will hopefully get full fitness and form.Do we plod along playing finals without getting anywhere while we wait for youngsters to start dominating WAFL and then give them a game or do we give them a crack.Ive predicted 7-11 for us this year i hope im wrong.Anybody happy with our brand of football has got rocks in their head.

1 game off top 4 but yeah lets just drop everyone and start again even though there is no one new available to come in apart from Karpany
We are not one game off top 4 in terms of how goid we are as a side

The only reason we do well atm is because of subi - if we were in a comp with all games played in the one city we would be bottom 8

If gf's were played at subi we could be called a genuine contender - they arent and i expect come september we will be found out again.

No nn = no eagles unfortunately.

We do seem a tad robotic and predictable win or lose. I think its because we lack leg speed and rely on our strength which is our tall backs and forwards.

Jetta was going to help fix that but has failed.

Rioli could help and possibly Watson.

But yes watching Melbourne and Adelaide is more exciting.

So give up then 6 rounds in even though we are currently 6th?

The zone was useless today and there didn't seem to be any changing. It's hard to see when you're not at the ground though but the bombers worked through whatever setup the eagles had with ease, quick short kicks, straight copy of what Hawthorn did and there was no answer strategically, no change to a lock down man on man game or any tags set up to stop our centre clearance fails.

So wtf happened Simmo

Where were our leaders and the lack of intent that was supposed to have been addressed ..
I dont like the word "intent" used by WCE. They probably have too many intents and not focus in what they are supposed to exist for ! Correct intent has to be with strong intensity in sport. Otherwise, it is just a political word.

Agree they should just say intensity which is preferable ..

I was embarrassed and frustrated today. Went to the game sat on Level one and watched the game closely. Performance aside, what got me more was when I got home to watch the press conference. Simmo pissed me off big time on his press conference. He says the same things over and over. Adam simpson and his coaching ability will not win us a Flag. Period. His personnel do not cut it at elite level, He doesn't cut it at elite level and most importantly senior players do not fear him at all. Guys like Masten, Gaff, Lecras, Hurn and even Priddis do not fear him. He never drops them on performance. Only due to suspensions, injuries or fake soreness excuses. This 22 will not bring same intensity or even close to same intensity week in week out. The gap is way too big and it all comes down to coaching panel and the head which is Simmo.

I know some of you will disagree and blame it on players but end of the day It comes down to leadership and he crapped himself today. Simmo needs to make a decision what this team is trying to achieve this year:

  • Going for a flag or
  • Rebuilding
I do not think he has any clue what he wants. Obviously he would say he is going for a flag but he has not realised that at least 6 of his best 22 need to be dropped permanently for him to get there so why does he continue on sticking with them?? I have no issues with sheed duggan, mut having off games, they are young and it happens every now and then, but your core players are there for a reason to prevent such one sided shallacking and our leaders looked like first year players overwhelmed by the occasion.

For those of you who would argue that we do not have depth to cover these guys, it once again goes back to coaching team and their drafting methods. Simmo rarely gives young kids specially in the midfield a go. He is obsessed with masten, gaff, shuey, priddis. So it once again comes back to him and his lack of management in that area. Because Simmo has no idea what he is trying to achieve, the club will suffer the most. We will not win a flag this year and will not rebuild. What we doing is making the 8 and having no impact in September. This is the worst case scenario.

I could not believe my eyes watching all 22 players being down cohesively as a team. Why is masten still there, why is darling still there?? why is gaff just jogging?? Redden was def high or something today. The only positive today was our backline who were close to their week in week out standard of play. Make the big cuts like freo did or just resign. This cannot continue any further. They have had plenty of opportunities with this crop and its getting worse.

Ultimately it is down to the coach.Show some ticker and drop masten, lecras, darling and Hurn. Then the rest of the squad will take notice. I am so frustrated and angry, it is a joke having this guy as a coach who cannot pull a trigger on these guys to show some authority and put fear in this team.
