Batting lineup is very strong, bowling is the biggest concern though

Couldn't have done much more though. The top 5 wicket takers in the Big Bash are Faulkner, Hogg, McKay, Starc and Edmondson. They picked three of them, and a veteran quick instead.

Lucky they are only playing India

Warner, Marsh, Finch, Birt, Dussey, Wade, Marsh, McKay, Lee, Hogg, Doherty

Cant even see how the captain fits into that squad

Great call, cant see how he can be in the top6 with that squad picked.

My side would be:

Warner
Finch
Marsh
Birt
Dussey
Christian
Wade
Marsh
McKay
Lee
Doherty

But they will probably play bailey in front of Finch (who starred in his 2 games and hasnt played since) and open with S Marsh.

Probably the best team out of that lot will be (if they must pick Bailey):
Warner
Wade
S Marsh
Birt
D Hussey
M Marsh
Bailey
Faulkner
Lee
McKay
Hogg

Christian
Finch
Doherty

The fact that Bailey gets a game before Finch and Quiney, who made over double the runs he did in the Big Bash and also Christian and McDonald, who both made 50% more runs, much more quickly and also bowl, is very hard to swallow.
Squad could definitely be stronger with either Starc, or Nannes, though. A lot of pressure on Lee and C-Mac. Hogg has to play.

No Hogg? Should definitely be first choice spinner ahead of Doherty.

And batting Mitch Marsh at 8 is a waste; might as well play a superior bowler like Faulkner. He should bat in the top 6 if he plays.

George Bailey is the English model of the 1990's. Specialist captain.

I know who they should have gone for if they wanted a specialist captain...oh wait, North is ineligible...he's actually been making runs.

From the squad
Warner
Marsh
Birt
Dussey
Bailey (c)
Wade
Christian/Marsh
Faulkner
Lee
Doherty/Hogg
McKay

Other than Bailey (If they wanted a specialist captain, North and McDonald have both done a pretty good job over the past year in various competitions and are in better form), they've done a pretty good job of melding domestic form this year with previous international matches. Good to see Faulkner get some international experience and it's great to have Hoggy back.

Surprised that Starc wasn't picked, espectially considering that he's twelth man for Adelaide and he was the best strike bowler of the competition (1 wicket every 9.5 balls so far), but I guess they know what he's capable of. I expect him, MHussey and Watson to hopefully come into the squad for the World T20 when it comes around.

Actually after the initial anger at the Bailey decision I am pretty impressed with that squad - certainly gone for the form players.

Probably a batsman heavy and a specialist bowler short and I would have liked to have seen either Starc or Nannes picked instead of Bailey. Otherwise pretty happy.

You see, there's been a Launceston-born Australian captain since 2002, and CA obviously wanted to continue the trend. ;) And they'll bring in Faulkner and Doherty to keep him company.

In all seriousness, I'm extremely surprised. Although Bailey has been in good First-Class form; not that that makes up for his horrible T20 series.

Any history buffs know if there has ever been an Australian captain captaining in their first match? Apart from 1877 of course.

They recall Hogg but there's no room for Nannes, or Hodge... wow.

And White... gone.... for George Bailey. Staggering.

Location...Melbourne...yep. ;) :p Jokes

Nannes would have been in my squad too...but Hodge? I wish people would stop flogging that dead horse. Hogg won his spot back through amazing performances and clearly being the best spin option we have; Hodge has played well but we have a multitude of middle order options.

White gone is correct, but yeah for Bailey it's a bit off.

Are you at least happy Finch made the squad? :thumbsu:
