Miss out on the likes of Bont & Cripps by taking him, do the same a year later taking McCartin over Trac, Brayshaw & Miller.

After all that, for him to end up being a salary dump repair job at a club that beat them in their greatest ever era is a tough pill to swallow.

It happens a lot with us, but we seem to be hated - or have a supposed 'rivalry' - with clubs we don't even think about.

Happens all the time, particularly with small forwards. They have their flash in the pan year and get the Milne, Betts & Greene comparisons, and they end up nowhere a couple years later.

Is that the same Jack Higgins who played a career record games in 2023, kicked a career best goals tally in 2023, and won the Saints goal kicking in a season they made the finals?

What’s Billings contract worth? He’s a nice player who’d add an outside option but you wouldn’t want to overpay.
If we could turn a steak knife pick from the Esava trade into Billings I’d take that. But I doubt that we’ll be involved in a player coming into the club at this stage of the trading period.
Maybe well had a player from another club through dfa, draft or ssp but hard to see any players coming in this late.

I'd take Billings if he costs basically nothing in a trade and the contract isn't large. 2 years to see if he can salvage his career. If it doesn't work out nothing lost really.

Maybe nobody was a tad harsh, but I'm more talking about how quickly things can change for young players, and in this case in particular, small forwards.

The outrage seems a bit much, considering you seem to conveniently be leaving out the part where I said 'He's a much better footballer than Ginnivan', who was just best 23 in a premiership side.

That statement would have him aptly rated to the figures you mention. A good player, but not a superstar by any means.

He was the talk of the town in 2018 & '19, the next big thing in footy. Fast forward to now, and he hardly warrants a mention, despite those figures you mention.

Admittedly, part of that is a product of playing for a club like Richmond, and then a club like St Kilda. The difference in media coverage between the clubs is stark.

However, the point still stands that these players are flash in the pan types, and I'd expect similar from Ginnivan over the coming years.

He'll go from being the most talked about player in the league through 2022, to just some bloke who gets a game for Hawthorn every now and then in a couple years.

There's not much in this draft. 25 isn't a good pick. We'll see what Port come back with

I’d take the risk if he falls to us. At worst I think he’ll be a very competent third tall intercepting defender.

Sometimes I think recruiters focus too much on a player’s potential negatives than what they can actually bring to the table.

I honestly never bothered to even watch him. But i get the vibe that half the reason he was so often in everyone's phantoms at 2 early on was an expectation that west coast take him there because he's from WA.
