I see the journalists finally got the news on Davies. They were quicker onto hearing about Bailey Smith.

I asked about a bit more today. I’ve been told we have spoken to multiple targets and basically our entire offseason is based around Smith and how we can bring in another midfielder and one more utility type player.

Our interest in Oliver is still alive. Can’t speak from his side as a Melbourne player has said he’s staying.

We have spoken to Wood but sounds like he is going to continue at Saints.

Someone who mentioned Angwin in here was correct. Which shocks me, as I thought we would be chasing Peatling personally. I think he offers huge upside.

Unsurprisingly, we have been sniffing around Bryan and Tsatas. And I’ve been told if Tsatas have had slipped in that draft, the decision between him and Clark would’ve been difficult.

And then the rest of our interest lies in Bulldogs players. Garcia, Macrae and Khamis. As there’s belief they can be tied into a deal with Smith.

It truly is moneyball this offseason.

Now before everyone says we can’t cut them all in, obviously that’s true. But the belief is we will be landing a combo of three of these players. Smith being the lock. It’s going to be a super active offseason but I can’t lie, I’m excited for finals right now. Hate this bye week.

There might have been one or two worst kept secrets but this year guys are just walking out the exit interviews and telling the media they've asked for a trade. They aren't even waiting for Mad Monday to finish.

I don't think Bryan and Conway are that similar at all (if that's who you're comparing him to). A couple of years older, which is a big difference for rucks at that age, and the main one being that Bryan now has a pretty solid body of work behind him (at AFL and VFL level).

Conway hasn't really ever played a run of consecutive games at any level, so the chances of him being able to play the whole year in the AFL next year are slim. Whereas Bryan at least can withstand a season of games now, so, if good enough, could feasibly play as our ruck for 24 games next if needed. Now he may not be good enough, but that's that same as Darcy Fort.

I also have no problem if Bryan taking the development opportunities away from Conway. If Conway is good enough, he'll play. If Bryan is better, he'll play. I'm pretty agnostic about who is our ruck long term, and with Stanley going one would play VFL so it's not like they wouldn't get any exposure to game time as a ruck.

I agree. We can’t go into next season with Conway as our only specialist ruckman, with backup from SDK. Neale needs to concentrate on the key forward role and I don’t think Blics can manage a lot of rucking anymore. Furphy and Edwards aren’t up to it yet, although at least Furphy has a mature body.

I dont think the Bombers let Bryan go, Goldy is more or less cooked and jury is out if Draper is better as a forward or ruck.

Thought they looked miles better as a side with Bryan as their number one Ruck aswell.

I think everyone has high hopes for Conway but he has hardly played in 2 years. I would love to see him in the side next week but thats not going to happen. Edwards definitly showed some promise in the VFL, but he needs more time and is also injured. It would be a disaster to have a premiership tilt ruined because we dont have a Ruck.

Conway will be our number 1 ruck and damn good at it for the next 10 years or so as long as his body holds up.

If there’s one thing our board agrees 99.9% on its that Conway looks to be our best ruck prospect since Ottens or Damian Bourke for pure ruck talent but that he also may struggle to 50 games the way his body handles it.

I think back to Gawn who didn't become the best ruck of the last 15 years until about 23 (That damn game at KP where he came of age i remember vividly).

Conway should be given time to get his body right and if needed bring in a second tier ruck who can play 10 or so games every year until Conway's body is 100% ready to play 24+ games a year.

I think Max may have played about a dozen games in his first 4 years... always injured.

But if you are all for spending another 2nd rounder (that'll be 3 in 4 years) on a stop gap for a year or two.
Then their player list acquisition/retention/strategy is way off kilter.

Yeah with the injuries Gawn was 25 before he played a full season. Melbourne made the investment and it paid off.

I don’t think he said they aren’t any good. We all know Conway could be a star for us but we can’t deny a stress fracture to the navicular isn’t very worrisome. We 100% need a number 1 ruck for the next couple of years because we would be stupid to bank it all on an injury prone ruck like Conway right now
