Stanley is retiring and blitz is 33 and nearly cooked.
We have no fit no1 ruck next year and a shortage of kpds.
Whether hes selected this week or not hes required for next year unless we traded in a replacement.
Posted today: grainy image of the loch ness monster in some form of training

Sdk is not untradeable but the other poster is right-we wont move him now unless either an A grade kpd (very few available) or cadman comes back the other way which wont happen this year.
So he will stay.
But if tdk goes to another vic club next year (FA) i can see sdk potentially wanting to go join him then.
I haven't personally heard we are trading Sdk, just that we are chasing a defender.

I know a vic club who needs a ruck 😁

Yes please, could get him for a 3rd rounder.
Very underrated inside midfielder behind a good midfield core.
I think this is where we kind of have to be careful what we're solving for. We've got role players, we need to be looking at trading in either the guys who are leading the midfield or getting a second chance. I think because he's contracted he's only going to seek a trade of he's guaranteed games. Would you guarantee it?

Good point. But if we get Smith we won’t have anything left for a high quality player, and we need a backup ruck unless SDK wants to play ruck and is up to it.
What I find strange is that the day before the QF we had the weakest midfield in the top 8 then Stewart pulled out. Now suddenly we have just about the best midfield.
Kennedy is pissed off with his club and plays inside which is where we have been getting belted. Carlton have a great midfield so could he blossom with us? He has willingly played many positions in every game this year. Good team player. And quite big.

Yeah sure add back ups but I think we need to just target potentially elite players and depth players. Role players we're pretty good for

I’m wondering how Carlton can afford Houston considering all the big contracts they have , or was Kennedy and Martin on reasonable contracts?

Been abit shocked at how they are throwing around big dollars over the years and not going over the SC

Think you'll find Martin was on good money

IMO I would guarantee him games. Bowes can go to half back

I don't disagree that COS is currently not ready.

SDK did come along in his 3rd season.

COS might have a big preseason and surprise a few and I hope he does.

Still... if SDK isn't selected in the backline if he is fully fit this week, then it says to me that we don't want him there and we will have the same tall backs next year in Henry/Kolo... and Blitz is looking better as a back to my eye than a mid at this stage of his career.

Maybe it's horses for course though, because Dixon was the perfect matchup for Blitz last game and he might not get a tall forward that spends time playing 2nd ruck every week.
I think you are reading too much into it. If SDK doesn’t get selected, it will simply be because we don’t want to change a winning formula. He just happens to be out of the team at the wrong time.

There are lots of examples of this kind of thing on teams that win flags. Hard luck stories are common, it is usually because of timing not ability or standing at the club.

In another point, extremely odd they delisted Martin.
Almost like he’s told them he’s leaving and they were pissed so just said fine GTFO

He reportedly asked to be delisted so that he could explore his options

Sounds similar to when he originally left GC for Carlton

Yeah Martin was on a stupid contract. Looks like they are trying to push out some of their limited players in Kennedy and Owies for some cap space. There was a Carlton fan squawking on the Geelong can't develop young players thread early in the season. If they could develop players from late in the draft / rookie draft like we could they would be unstoppable. Unfortunately for them if it's not a 1st round pick or someone traded in on a big contract, they can't find players at all.

They are bursting at the seams.
TDK will be walking into a new team on big coin as a FA and the BlueBaggers won’t be able to match.
Tuff t***ies I say. Elliotts’ curse still lives!

Sounds like a flog

Apols for intrusion.
Martin was on a heavily front loaded contract…bugger all this year in his last year of contract.
Perennially injured, along with numerous others, we need to move on from those types.

I agree... reckon Tom Stewart might also be stiff.
That's like comparing Dangerfield coming straight back in vs Sam Menegola circa 2018.

Both highly valuable to the side when fit, but not exactly apples to apples.

If SDK isn't selected, he's got a right to be disappointed - anyone would be, but if he's kicking up a fuss over it then he's lacking a bit of self awareness for mine.

Unlikely though, and this could be all become irrelevant by Thursday.
