Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

They will find a spot for Stewart.

Unfortunately for SDK Stanley has tapped into the fountain of youth and is keeping him out.
This week. Agreed. And if we lose, he may leave. I may be alone with my thoughts here, but his last 2 years have been lack-lustre at best. Would love to see him recommit to the cause at Geelong and appreciate what he has already been given and achieved. Instant gratification is not what it should be about. Stanley will be gone next year, surely SDK can see his future is assured at Geelong.

You’d think if Smith was going to the Hawks it would have been announced today. It appears all the mail about him choosing GFC is on the money.
There's no real excitement for mine, we knew this was at least likely for a long time now.

I'm sure that'll change next month when he's wearing the ill-fitting Cats jumper they've plucked from the membership shop though.

Yes please, could get him for a 3rd rounder.
Very underrated inside midfielder behind a good midfield core.
Absolute no brainer. He would be great in our system. Big body and can float forward and kick a goal. He's exactly the kind of moneyball pickup we go after. More than handy in the clinches.

Kennedy free and cheap maybe, but won’t happen. Rather Bruhn extends his TOG incrementally and Clark will be a player soon enough in that position. Rather use draft points on Smith and Reid should be the long term goal in centre mid. Does suit our age profile though.

Weren't we rumoured to be into Devon Robertson?
Noticed he was named in VFL team of the year

If he was cheap i would have no problems. Hes not a star but we need a decent big bodied mid and hes durable and can play forward too.

Maybe as VFL depth sure but he’s already behind our genuine AFL level Midfielders:

Dangerfield (absolute bull mid, may transition into more time forward going into 2025)
Holmes (accumulator mid, can play outside midfield too but has moved into a bigger role playing more genuine midfield)
Bruhn (attacking mid)
Atkins (tagging mid)
Bowes (defensive/tagging mid)
Cam Guthrie (accumulator mid)
Jhye Clark (defensive mid)

And all of that is before you add in Bailey Smith as potential pickup (attacking mid)

Who does Kennedy displace from that group? He’s basically only gonna take Parfitt’s spot as lead VFL midfielder and AFL depth player.

He doesn’t displace any of our midfield and he certainly isn’t quick enough to play in our forward line.
Our game style which is fast requires two way running from forward line, manic pressure.

He’s too slow and doesn’t excel at anything. Can win footy but isn’t a great disposal.
Lots of potential always there but never reaching it. Sound familiar?

It’s just Parfitt all over again. They are basically the same player.

Do you remember that before the Port game all on this site and the football world in general regarded our midfield as the weakest in the top 12, and that was before Stewart pulled out? The best we hoped for was to be competitive and perhaps the forwards and backs would get us over the line.

If we lose on Saturday, which is a little less than 50/50 in view of this inconsistent season for all teams, our midfield will likely be again the subject of intense criticism. So perhaps we need some backup on the inside.

Btw for those speculating that Duncan would retire this year or be pushed out, Scott said on Fox Footy tonight that he's likely to play on.
I don’t mind given he is a good leader around the club. Lets limp him to 300 and I suspect it will be clear pretty soon into the year that he is not in best 23. as long as he is prepared for that then we have room to keep him given other retirements/delistings

Blicavs I can see playing 2-3 years as a key back, more running and less wear and tear in the middle. As durable as they come, how may games has he missed due to injury over the journey..?
I agree that he could play more back…and that they could look to find SDK another role - forward/ruck

Bruhn's ball use on Thursday was superb. Both by foot and hand

The highlight for me was in the first quarter when he marked in the half back flank and hit Bowes on the wing on the edge of the centre square to open up the ground in attack. It was just a really composed decision and execution to take on the more aggressive option.
He has excellent skills. I think we (me included) often don’t take into account contested vs uncontested. For all the players. There is a very high correlation between contested % and low effective kicks %. When Tanner gets free he is an excellent user of the ball but he goes through games sometimes doing kicks under massive pressure

I had a feeling that photo might resurface. Surprised no one in the media has grabbed it and had some fun.

At least it helps dispel any lingering doubts about Bailey's mental state. I mean who doesn't walk their cat around on a dog lead. Perfectly normal behaviour.
The world has gone a little mad. In Torquay you aren’t allowed now to let cat outside at all. Our club has proven that Cats can’t be caged in!

Maybe that rumour from a few months ago has some merit?

Clubs can't agree on a deal, so the Cats take the Macrae contract as a sweetner?

All comes down to what Jack's family arrangements are of course, but I could see it happening that way.
We could become the club of the salary dumps! I don’t know how they look him in the eyes though and say he can fit in the MF rotation?

I met a dude at Uni once who had his cat coming into Uni and just chilling on his shoulders all day. Great cat, funny guy.
