Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

He will be a terrific signing.
Unorthodox player is Lukosius. Listed at 6ft'5 but very much a mid-sized forward like we see from Cameron. They can leave Georgiades one-out in the square and have Lukosius roaming around the wing and flanks for the next 7-8 years.
At lukosius knows how to kick the ball inside 50. The get him doing that they might actually be dangerous

First big trade news of GF week -

Hard to see how this is good business. A good player but overpriced.

This is Geelong’s key advantage: get bargains and only pay top dollar for top talent.

I hate to say it but Tom Atkins had 25 CBAs, second only to Dangerfield, for 12 disposals and three clearances. I know CBA is an imperfect but it does suggest who was getting actual stoppage time. Bowes was 5/13/1 and Bruhn was 12/10/4. If I'm looking for the weakest link Tom might be it.
There’s no “might” about it. He has extracted all he can from a midfield career. If he has a future it lies elsewhere.

I’ve seen a few reports that all of Duncan, Bews, Guthrie, Stanley and Danger will play on next year. It seems CS is afraid to make the same necessary tough calls he did back in 2010/11.
“Afraid” doing some heavy lifting here.

I see so many issues within his game that I probably won't even list them all now because people will jump all over me for stating them out loud and being negative.

Give him time was what everyone said... and I think 2 years on it's probably the same line.

Next year is go-time for him, no more excuses.

I don't buy the "he needs a bigger tank" line of thinking because he has always been this style of player and now has 4 seasons of AFL under his belt.
The first para here is nonsense. He has one issue and that’s finding enough ball. Literally everything else is fine or better than fine.

The rest I agree with. He needs to show more.

Luko has the opposite problem to sav.
Sav is all heart no talent.
Luko is all talent and no heart. I would never offer either a long term deal.

With all those names staying, we'd still have Tuohy, Hawk, Parf, likely Foster off the main list.

Even if we retain the 2nd this year after the Smith trade and also bringing Martin to the senior list at best we're making a 3rd round selection. So the value proposition is

Duncan vs 4th or 5th rounder
Stanley vs 5th or 6th rounder
Bews vs 6th or 7th rounder
Danger vs 7th or 8th rounder
I love* how we have to explain the concept of opportunity cost in list management each year around this time.

* don’t love

You want to contact 3 throws at the stumps for 2 years each over extending handy depth a year?

Yes absolutely (baring in mind if we a mature ager in the ND which we should it can be a 1 year deal anyway). If we hold onto too many older players this year then we will simply be turning over 10 or so players next year and id rather do some of that now.

I completely forgot Rohan actually, who is definitely getting chopped this year imo.

I think we have a gap in ages though that we can aim towards in managing retirements. We have one player between Kolo's age (28) and Cameron's age (31) and thats Bews who likely doesn't retain his spot past next year.

If we can manage the old blokes off the list gradually all the way to the retirement of Jez in say 2-3 seasons time then we've solved the problem all the way to the retirement of the 2016 draft cohort.

Yeah I generally agree. It also emphasises why free agents couple be a difference maker the next couple of years in particular.

We can add a player without using any picks, which would cancel out the need to use that 5th round pick you mention. This is why I imagine me are showing some interest in Martin at the moment. And why I hope we have a FA in mind next year.

He was on 7 Brownlow votes before he got hurt.

He got hurt mate, hard to maintain form when you're walking wounded.
He very clearly was still sore in the back half of the year.

I agree next year is "go time" but we also have to give him some leeway with injuries.
I can't believe I'm getting mated over Bruhn lol.

I'm not sure how you can say the bolded above with a straight face.

Your obsession with him is utterly bizarre.

And no he wasn't that bad.

He was clearly injured. He was visibly hobbling at half time. Then he was on the bench for most of the 3rd quarter and barely attended a centre bounce despite Holmes also being on the bench. There's no way we do that if he's even close to fully fit.

Despite that he fought through and was involved in 2 crucial plays in the second half (Blicavs goal and Henry goal that could've been the match winner).

He still managed to have more score involvements than Lachie Neale and as many clearances as Ashcroft and Dunkley combined. He also had the highest disposal efficiency on the ground and 0 clangers except for frees against (2 of 3 of which were utter BS). He really wasn't that bad at all. Given he was clearly injured for at least half the game he was fine.

This is extreme rose-coloured glasses stuff.

Bruhn has many lacking attributes in his game... Stacks of them.
Ah yes, the long list you’d rather not bore us with. Good-o. 🙄

Yeah, that part looks like a solvable problem though. His positive traits are worth sticking with

I'm a lot more concerned about Bowes than just about any other player on our list.
This is now his 8th season and he played over 120 games.
He was able to hit the scoreboard this season but he has no outlying qualities whatsoever. Good tackler but once the ball is pinging around, he's very ordinary. You can't put him down back as he's an average user/decision maker.

I hope Clark or Knevitt can come in and replace Bowes next season.

We all seem to focus on our bottom end players no matter what when we lose.

Let's be honest what was our bigger problems?

Bruhn, Mullin, Bowes, etc being ok to poor. Mannagh wanting a couple of moments back. Stanley being ok but not dominant once McInerney went off.

Or Stewart and Stengle having all-time stinkers, Danger losing composure and giving away free kicks and Holmes going off injured?

The fact we probably should've won despite getting basically nothing from our prime movers shows our whipping boys were probably pretty solid overall.

Work smarter not harder.

Came here to agree with this but counter with other elements..
But beaten to it.
