Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Draft and Trade Period Key Dates

Oct 17 to Nov 8: Pick swap window
Nov 1 to Nov 8: Delisted free agency period
Nov 20-21: Telstra AFL Draft
Nov 22: Telstra Pre-Season Draft and Rookie Draft

I'd be extremely surprised if we paid up for a ruck again this year with Edwards and Conway on the list. It feels like lazy reporting. They look at our list and see we need a ruck and don't check that we've already invested big time in developing rucks.
I could see it if they thought one of Edwards/Dodson ends up a KPF/KPD

Unless Conway's foot is worse than anticipated and they feel as though he will be battling to forever remain healthy.

When Cats brought in Jack Henry and Ollie Dempsey as Rookies, I thought at time that they were excellent selections and 'in time' a real chance of making quality footballers. Feel the same about Angus Clark and fully agree with comments regards quality and 'composure' as he reminds me a lot of Zach Guthrie, very similar type of player and currently, Angus is the same height as Zach at 188 cms. So yeah, real keen 'given time' on this kid and although he unfortunately won't be in Rookie Draft, if he slips down the pecking order on draft night, I like you 'year of the cat' would be rapt.
Clarke's style is probably more like Mackie, the way he moves. I think Clarke could be a Winger. Mackie had very good field kicking, and this good looks very similar. I don't think he will be available at our first pick at 45, which will probably be around 40 on the night, but I'd take him around there for sure.

It will be one of the worst all time list management decisions to trade draft capital to move up the order and select Dodson, for a third developing ruck on the list. Would be mind blowing. We are not that dumb - or it means Conway is finished injury wise

It will be interesting to see the mix of players we walk away with. You’d assume we have to take at least one, possibly two talls. If we have a choice between a few I’m looking forward to seeing who they rate the highest as they do seem a pretty even group at the back end of the draft.

Just based on the loss of the talls we have lost and will soon lose … we should look at two. Stanley adn Blitz are not spring chickens. I agree on the eveness of them… and if we dont get who our most rated player is ..maybe we just add a Rookie that will take time to develop. It gets down to who is not taken I guess.

I see Nicholls mentioned in the media. I prefer others but of course if we land I hope for the best.

More likely to bring in a cheap mature ruck if that's the case. But he was back training by the end of the season and foot and back problems for young rucks are almost par for the course. It's not like Conway had a massive amount of agility to begin with.

If we do go for Dodson I assume it's because we think he'll become a key forward. But when was the last time the media has been right about who Geelong are keen on well out from the draft?

Perhaps the idea of the flex that would give is appealing. I cant say I have seen much of either as a forward target they seem more the Stanley types mobile but not really guys who can play forward …but who knows I guess. I like Sims for that in that he is comfortable forward but could do some forward ruckwork like Hawkins. Gerryn probably the same.

Maybe Edward’s back is cooked and Dodson takes his spot?
We honestly don’t know

Regarding Dodson, I could understand our interest if we hadn't drafted Edwards last year or maybe Edwards has indicated he'll likely move on end of next season, wanting to return home

Otherwise I don't understand why we'd look at a third project ruck under 22, with 2 under 20 heading into next season - having too many young rucks on the list will impact their development

Maybe Edwards will be involved in a trade for Harley Reid...

It's so minuscule that it wouldn't even be worth planning that far ahead.

Edwards clearly has talent, but he doesn't move the needle on a Reid trade whatsoever. It would take a huge season to change that.

The only ones who would are the ones we wouldn't want to trade. Guys like Humphries, Dempsey, and now Neale if he kicks on.

Edwards types would just be steaknives to the 2-3 first round picks we would have to pay. We'd say the same if it was us in their shoes.

Is there any point in watching on Wednesday night?
I think there’s close to zero chance we trade up to the first round

Tune in for the last 30 mins maybe. I think maybe slight chance we take one of Richmond's last picks for our F1 if there is someone we like still there. If we do I doubt it will be a "slider" that people want though.

The only way we get Reid is with 3+ first rounders unless we trade an A grade talent which we have very few if any of that would even entertain going to WCE.

Now in 2-3 years time that may be different as player like Humphries or Edwards could become A grade but if they did why would we push them out?
