Rumour GFC 2025 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 1

Reid is a generational talent. But you would want to make sure his attitude is right given how high the price will be.
HR's attitude may make the trade bearable if its know he is unhappy. I suspect that the first year of finally arriving into the AFL has a shine which can cover the lack of results but as time gets on…the lack competitiveness would temper enthusiasm. It was always the risk for WC that historically they have been able to persuade and keep players has been helped by them being a top club.

My preferred position is to target out of contract players because as we saw with Oliver..you can go almost all the way but not quote score a home run when they do not like the deal… Just like with Smith maybe we keep him on speed dial and see what happens. Honestly think this probably goes nowhere while the Dogs have a choice..
He would have to be basically radioactive for the dogs not to hold him to his contract

I agree …yet in a comp where we can see Rich and North and others are loading up in prep for the Tas drought …. maybe , like with Oliver , they might see what they can get ..then after much ado and the picks not being top10 ten ...they keep him.

Ill ask you 2 questions...
If JUH doesn't play again this season... What would he be worth in a trade?

If he plays again, what would he be worth in a trade?
I would have said if JUH played and didn’t have personal issues he would be worth 2 first rounders.

If JUH doesn’t play at all this year it will be Smith all over again

I wouldn't blame him WCE have been so negligent with their rebuild

Do we what his issues are?
A few people on our board have said a few things like who he friends with, media said he has to repair relationships within the club with Bevo, Bont and Lobb. Their are other rumours but I won’t repeat them

JUH is contracted to the WB until 2026, so if any club wants to get him during this year's trade period, they'll need at least two first-round picks, IMO. Bailey was uncontracted, and he would have walked to the draft if the WBs didn't accept the Cat's picks, leaving them with nothing. I just don't think the Catters would have the trade capital to get JUH this year. Rowell is a better opportunity as he is out of contract at the end of this year, and if he wants to come to the Cats (a big IF at this stage) then that is a better position for Geelong to trade with the picks we've got (like with Bailey Smith).

Not necessarily.

It all depends on whether the Doggies want to keep him or want him out of the club (I don't know what they want btw).

But the Dogs definitely won't come out and tell anyone that they will ship him off to whatever team he selects (that's if he does prefer to leave) because they will lose all of their trade leverage.

If they want to keep him... it'll still cost a bunch to get him (because he is contracted).
If they want him gone... they'll push as hard as they can and extract as much as possible.

I don't know if they want him or not, but if they don't he could go unders in a similar vein to when Treloar and Grundy were contracted and pushed out of their clubs.

Lots to play out here with JUH.

If we want JUH, it'll be two first rounders - especially given how shit this draft is looking. There might be a player involved too.

Lots to play out, but I said the other day how Cameron is literally the only player we need to replace long-term. JUH is the perfect candidate - if he gets his shit together.

Regardless of how this year goes, I can't see it being any less than two first rounders to pry him out - given he is under contract. They would just simply say 'we'll keep him and get the same trade value next year then.'

Pick 1 key forwards don't come along often, even if they do have issues - they're worth a lot. He's also the only realistically attainable one, IMO. Rowell, Butters and Reid are all just too high value, and we would need to sell the farm to get them. JUH is at least possible with what we've got now.

As an aside, this is what our side may look like with the addition of JUH, post Cameron, Stewart, Duncan, Stanley, C. Guthrie, Danger, Bews and Blics (minimum 1 AFL game):

B: J. Henry, SDK, Z. Guthrie
HB: L. Humphries, C. O'Sullivan, Bowes
C: Dempsey, Bruhn, Mannagh
FO: Conway, B. Smith, Holmes
HF: O. Henry, JUH, Miers
F: Close, S. Neale, Stengle
INT: Knevitt, O'Connor, J. Clark, Mullin, Clohesy

That's not including any other prospective players on our list, trades, FA or draft picks. Close to rebuild complete.

Even if they want JUH out of the club, they'll still ask a lot for him. This is basically what happened to Clayton Oliver last year. The Dees wanted Oliver out of the club until it was obvious they wouldn't get the picks they wanted for him, and then suddenly, they wanted him to stay and work it out. Yeah, right.

What if they don't want to keep him and just gotta get him out of the club?

2x of our R1s if JUH can turn it around is a bargain though.

Those selections would likely both land around the 20's with the draft is so compromised these days.

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't want JUH

1. He's in contract, we pretty much never go for people in contract.

2. Doggies will still be pissed about Smith so they'll demand the World for him

3. It doesn't address a weakness, we are stacked up forward...we need BALL WINNING MIDFIELDERS.
We can address Key Forward down the line when Jez starts slowing down. It's not a right now problem, forward line is our strongest position.

If I'm paying up 1st Rounders...it's for two guys Rowell and/or Butters

Also if I'm paying up, i want a consistent proven star. The above two are that. JUH to me is way too inconsistent for the price they'll ask. I'd rather go after Cadman down the line. He and Jez seem pretty close and Jez can convince him of the pros of joining the Cats.

Harley Reid is a pipe dream, he'll cost way too much so won't even entertain that.

I'm not a list manager but i know if i was in charge who i'd want.

1A) Rowell

1B) Butters

Imagine a starting midfield delivering this to our forward line.

Ruck: SDK
Rover: Max Holmes
Ruck Rover: Bailey Smith
Centreman: Matt Rowell/Zak Butters

Stupid question regarding JUH - IF we traded for him, what role is he playing for us next season?

  • Ollie Henry has recently signed a 2-yr extension through to 2027
  • Jezza Cameron is in the process of adding a second year to he's already triggered contract extension, which will take him through to 2027
  • Shannon Neale is close to signing a 3-yr contract extension through to 2028

Then add in that Dangerfield has another 12 months on his most recent contract and looks likely to play that Gary Rohan type role up forward

So where does JUH fit in all that?
