I don't care if it's a 0.01% chance, have our players write him love letters every day, get Chris Scott to talk about how much he loves him as a person in every presser, tell him we have a spot for a bronze of him all sorted out in the trophy room. You have to try get Bont.

Strange to ask after they recruited Sav ..but has Lord been tried in D? His marking seems to be his one wood.

Personally I think players like him are a distraction. I cant see the logic in trying to trade in a fringe player. Does he offer more than Kruger? Perhaps it the old…he played well against us type deal.

They did in the 2s a bit but don't think it bore much fruit

He mst have been ordinary if Sav looked a better option.
Injuries look like they could play a major role in Lord's career - was impacted with issues last year, now a shoulder issue that they'll be waiting on scans to determine the seriousness of

We desperately need to be chasing a midfielder during this trade period. Our rotations are thin and have too many question marks around them:

  • Danger old, close to retirement and no longer able to play mid full-time and preferred down forward
  • Atkins is a heart and soul type but he's still a B-grader who doesn't get enough of the footy. He's also turning 30 this year.
  • TB possibly no longer on the list. Got to do our list management planning on the assumption he won't be at the club.
  • Blicavs no longer a midfield rotation option (he was so bad in that role last year that I think he's finished as a defensive mid)
  • Stewart is a stopgap option whose presence in midfield robs us of the best HBF in the comp playing his preferred role. Also, he just turned 32.
  • Uncertainty around Baz's body holding up.
  • We still don't know yet if Knevitt and Clark are AFL quality.
  • Unknown at this point if Dempsey can transition into an inside mid.
  • MOC is a C-grader rotation. Not the answer.
  • Mullin as a mid...possible due to his physical attributes, but purely speculative at this point as he lacks footy IQ and still hasn't proven he's good enough to be in our best 23, let alone part of our on-ball group.

Support for Holmes is badly needed. Baz was a good start but I feel like we can't be confident in him as an option until we see him get through a season without these injury issues cropping up.

This aged well sadly. 😔

I think we all know our midfield is average.
It's why we are rumored to be after Rowell & Butters.

Still, tonight we saw great signs from Clark, Clohesy and Knevitt. Plenty to work with there. If we land a big fish like Butters, that midfield has plenty of upside.

Clohesy was definitely impressive.

On the other hand, I didn't think Knevitt showed great signs at all. Still too fumbly. Clark had a few little moments with some nice kicks but I'd be expecting more than just a few little moments from a 3rd year player. He was okay-ish, not awful, but nothing to write home about.

He's not leaving.

Do you remember how long it took the 2001-2003 draftees to finally come good?

Why are you expecting a 16 gamer to be putting up 25 disposals per game?

I think they look fine. I had my doubts about Knevitt but he did very well last night. He's starting to get to the right places.
Next week he will get a lot of the footy and the confidence will skyrocket.

I thought he was pretty decent up until he kicked his goal, then unsighted after.
Didn't they park him across half back to take intercepts of saints rebounds from them flooding the backline for the final quarter? I vaguely remember him just sitting front half of the centre square to mark hack kicks out of defence

Ted C’s game will bring a little light to him. Clubs after small forwards will come knocking .. especially if we cant find a way to keep him in. Hard task when we still have Managh to bring in.
The last 3 teams who won the flag have had decent small forwards.
Teams can't just have one anymore.

The decent thing about Clohesy (as well as Mannagh) is that he can be played in the middle as well if required. I still don't think he stays in the side if we have a fully fit list, but that's a big if.

Gets ready to run with the following question, especially with his recent re-signing news, but where does Close fit into the best mix, especially if Closesy plays a few more games like he did last night? And then adding in Mannagh returning to the mix also

Coming on in the second quarter last night, Ted had 16 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles & 2 goals, while Close had 7 disposals, 4 tackles & 1 goal from 4 quarters

Looking at Bradley's games last year, he
  • kicked 25 goals from 25 games, but went goalless in our last 6 matches
  • had 16 or more disposals on just 4 occasions, averaging 12.7 disposable
  • there was 6 games with 4 or more tackles, but he also had 6 games where he didn't register a single tackle

I think the vast majority do enjoy seeing the long sleeves out there, but is he one that's skating somewhat under the radar and who's position could come under some questions if others are stepping up when given a chance?

Edit - didn't originally mean to post this here but I think it works with discussion

Close has been a solid player for us.

But he is trade bait imo if we need extra collateral to land a serious mid (and we will need it).

I say this because we are stacked in the position Close plays with solid players, but not stacked in the middle.

We also have Martin on the list who plays half forward.

I actually didn't mean to post that in this thread but I realise it works here was well

I didn't mind re-signing him, but I thought he was one who could potentially be a target for opposition clubs as we suddenly seem to have a few options in that small forward role and while he's a nice player, he doesn't necessarily stand out like a Stengle, Miers or even Mannagh

So him being under contract is good for us, but I could see him becoming a fringe player over time

There are sides like Carlton that lack small forwards I can see coming for one of our guys. Not sure if Close is that high gloss type or not that would garner a bigger offer but I suspect someone will miss out on games .
