I have to disagree with you on this. We could easily fit them both in for 2 years if we wanted to.

Fitting JUH in is not the issue I see. It's spending a lot of capital (even at a discounted rate after this season) on a forward when I think our midfield is still a bigger priority.
Yeah maybe I guess i would take Neale or but then I think we're 2nd rucking jack Henry again? Maybe Knevitt?

Under the current rules, what is the maximum R1s we can trade at season's end...2?

Unless the rules are changed 3 isn't even a thing... Not sure where that potential rule change stands atm.
Clark and COS taken in the last 3 years so we can trade this years but not next years i think.

I think they were changing these rules shortly but don't think they've pulled the trigger yet

You don't think there'd be melts from GWS fans if after nabbing Jezza from them that we then sign his replacement from them also?
I don't think the 19 of them can make that much of a ruckus

At season's end or end of Contract?

He just said, "In play"

He didn't specifiy. He said when he knew more he'd get back to me.
He was on the money with Bailey Smith stuff so his track record is pretty good.

I don't post stuff here claiming to know things...my mate just has close ties to the club and when we have a phone chat or text chat he'll flick me some juicy stuff he knows or has heard

Whereas people here who post on good authority, I usually just sit back and wait and see what happens as i don't want people to think i myself have the answers. I just have a good friend who has an inside link.
I don't pretend that i personally am someone super close or run with stuff that isn't true. I'm just passing on what he's told me.
He doesn't give me anymore than he wants to or is allowed to divulge.

Plenty of ITK's that post here who would have better knowledge on this stuff than I do.
My mate just usually flicks me word when he hears/knows stuff that's going on.

Bottom had a bandaged left forearm so I'm assuming it's an Ollie Henry signature. Top looks like Cameron. Middle looks like Shannon Neale.

Having an actually look at the clip, I have to agree;
  • The bottom looks like the Henry snap from the weekend
  • The middle def looks like Neale with his Hulk celebration
  • And I'll stick with your guess on the top 😂

We've already heard that Henry has re-signed for 2yrs but nothing official from the club, while there's been some noise around the other two - would be good to have a mass announcement for our forward trio

I say Cameron on top because he's tall and lanky kicking a goal with a laconic style and a single digit on his back. Based on the number on the back and build alone you can rule out everyone bar Stanley and Holmes and I wouldn’t expect anything on the contract front from either of those guys

Can't have a go at the for the Kelly trade too much, even if Geelong extracted the maximum cost for him. Lot of clubs near the top end do that Bryce Gibbs trade to try and extend their run only for it to be an anchor on their list of the next 5 to 7 years.
Clubs have to pay overs and either misread their target (wrong type of player or not that good enough) or misread their list (not good enough to go to the next level, or not enough staying power)

It was their involvement in the JHF trade is what bothers me, in addition to their trade for Baker (which is such a pointless trade, there is zero point in bringing performance forward). They should have a group of three top three picks to build a core around. Imagine if they had Sheezel a year before Reid, and someone else a year later.

Their trade for Barrass was poor as well, that Carlton trade to Hawthorn only happened to enable the Baker trade. Their left hand robbed their right hand by facilitating it. Though this would have been harder to tell at the time. Once they realised what Carlton and Hawthorn were planning they should have shut it down. They had to complete the Barrass trade before anything else. North couldn't give away their future 1st which will probably be a top 5 pick, Hawthorn are looking like they're expected to be top 8 this year. There is a scenario where WCE holds onto pick three trades Barrass for pick 14 and a future 2nd, then flips 14 to North for their future 1st and possible change.

Owies was OOC he had to be a DFA on a minimal contract, Carlton were throwing him out. Including him in any discussions was a sign of incompetency

I agree but to be fair the issue is they did the trade because they knew sheezel and wardlaw wouldn't stay. But they should have drafted them anyway and traded sheezel for a huge haul 1 year later.

On the baker/barass trade 1000 %. They should have done barass first and kept p3 even if it meant baker went to freo. That trade was stupid.

Holmes is signed til 2028 and Stanley is a retire. I think it's Cameron or neale.

I honestly don't know what a trade for Butters could look like. I mean they could send us a future 2nd with a future 3rd back their way. But seriously a draft wipe out and future 1st wouldn't get it done.

It would be 2 firsts with us maybe adding a later pick or fringe player also (hopefully they like someone we don't need like they did with esava)

Can we afford Maynard
why the hell would we want that knuckle dragger? I am very happy with our defenders already without needing the biggest faux tough guy in the league strutting round like a rooster who doesn't at all improve us

Under current rules I’m not sure we can even trade out 2x First rounders.

People still misunderstand the future trading rules. In order to trade out a Future 1st, you must have used a 1st two out of the last 4 years. You don't get handicapped because you traded a 1st one out of the last 4 years. If this were the case, you'd essentially only be able to trade your Future 1st if you hadn't made a trade in the past 3 years.

If we trade this year's 1st without bringing another in, then yes, we have now only taken 2 picks in the last 4 years, and can't trade a Future 1st in 2026 without bringing another one in. As it stands, we have a complete suite of picks available in both 2025, and 2026. If they add the third year, then we'd have 2027 as well.

Restrictions are only introduced after you don't take a 1st rounder 2 out of the 4 years, not before.

2022 - Clark
2023 -O'Sullivan
2024 - Traded for Smith
2025 - Can be traded
2026 - Can be traded with 2025 1st (as long as it's traded in 2025)

Here's an excerpt from 2016 when the rules were introduced:

"EIGHT clubs will be able to trade its future first-round draft picks this season safe in the knowledge it has already fulfilled the AFL requirement to make two first-round draft picks in any four-year period.

It gives Adelaide, the Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Essendon, Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn and Melbourne flexibility as it enters the trade market in October to trade first-round draft picks.

AFL.com.au confirmed with the AFL that as long as a club has two first-round picks in a four-year period, they comply with the rules surrounding future first-round draft picks that were introduced ahead of last year's trading period.

Those rules introduced last season state that clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period or face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks and that clubs can trade one year in the future only."

Article states this clearly: clubs are 'safe in the knowledge they've already fulfilled the AFL requirement to make two first-round draft picks in any 4 year period.' Ergo, you fulfil that requirement prior to the following draft, you can then trade your Future 1st in the upcoming draft.
