I honestly can't even think of a trade package we could offer, that would satisfy West Coast for Harley Reid. Essendon have the picks and they're in Melbourne. Best we could do is 2 mid-late 1sts, Humphries and Neale. Neale we won't give up because he is the future of our forward line, and Humphries looks like a star in the making.

No way for it to work - without even taking into account that Essendon could offer Reid 2 MIL+ per year, as has been speculated. We won't even offer 1 MIL, lol.

We could do it if we sent humphries the other way but we won't want to do that and Neale we won't want to give up as we have a hole at KPP.
We would probably look at 3 r1s (with the future trading rules) and maybe Edwards included (reluctantly). We would need reid to be ooc so we have some leverage.

Would we trade Humphries and some picks for Reid. If he wanted to go back I guess we would but if he's 50/50, I'd know some would do it in a heartbeat, but Humphries is to cool to trade right.... has he even made a mistake yet?

If we are interested in Lord ..where do we see him playing?

Would Humphries or anyone else thats getting a game be keen to go back to WA? I could see perhaps Edwards and just about anyone in a group of players not considered critical being part of a deal …if willing

Apparently a discussion on SEN WA today and when asked where Harley Reid will play in 2026 Tim Gossage strongly suggested either Geelong or Essendon. And when pressed, he said Geelong having Bailey Smith will be a big lure for Harley Reid.

In no way suggesting Gossage is on the money, but he is closely connected to the Eagles and has broken many a story in Perth over the years on both local clubs.

Hard to know when we are just judging on what we see …but I could imagine that after a couple of years at WC that it would appeal to him to have a group of players around that absorbed some of the attention. The question id ask is it worth it to him to take a big cut on what he probably could earn at most other clubs

why would bailey smith be any of a pull for reid? that same as saying the dursmma at north or ess are a pull as well
He saw that we let Bailey wear a big ****ing headband and thats something Eagles won't let him do.

He said no to us a couple of years back, can we say no to him now?

I don't buy that we really are that interested in Lord, especially as he still has a year to run on his current contract and Port would likely want something stupid to release him a year early

IF we hadn't just re-signed Neale, then maybe he could have been seen as an open up forward, but feels like he'd be something of an excess need at this stage especially for what he could well cost

Maybe it's something we revisit in 12 months when he's out of contract

In reality.. if he only plays 6 or 8 games, he won't be worth much at all even if he is contracted...

Not sure if anyone listened to Chris Scott's presser, but I love to hear him take the piss out of trade speculation this early in the season by saying most clubs will be into good players, then he specifically named Rowell, JUH, Bontempelli as three of interest to us 👀
Bit off topic but watching Voss struggle to say anything of substance in last nights post-game compared to hearing Chris talk today makes me realise how lucky we are as a club
Yes, I watched it. Heard Rowell, JUH + Bont, I thought there was another mentioned by the journo, Reid or someone else?

He was really stirring shit 😆
Doggies will will explode

We’re very fortunate to have Scott + coaches + trainers

He shouldn't have signed his last deal and should have come then.
Then again if your side is playing spud talls like luko, sav and finlayson ahead of you you must not be that good.
I honestly can't see Lord getting a game in front of Neale etc... He would only be there for back up for injuries

We desperately need to be chasing a midfielder during this trade period. Our rotations are thin and have too many question marks around them:

  • Danger old, close to retirement and no longer able to play mid full-time and preferred down forward
  • Atkins is a heart and soul type but he's still a B-grader who doesn't get enough of the footy. He's also turning 30 this year.
  • TB possibly no longer on the list. Got to do our list management planning on the assumption he won't be at the club.
  • Blicavs no longer a midfield rotation option (he was so bad in that role last year that I think he's finished as a defensive mid)
  • Stewart is a stopgap option whose presence in midfield robs us of the best HBF in the comp playing his preferred role. Also, he just turned 32.
  • Uncertainty around Baz's body holding up.
  • We still don't know yet if Knevitt and Clark are AFL quality.
  • Unknown at this point if Dempsey can transition into an inside mid.
  • MOC is a C-grader rotation. Not the answer.
  • Mullin as a mid...possible due to his physical attributes, but purely speculative at this point as he lacks footy IQ and still hasn't proven he's good enough to be in our best 23, let alone part of our on-ball group.

Support for Holmes is badly needed. Baz was a good start but I feel like we can't be confident in him as an option until we see him get through a season without these injury issues cropping up.

Speaks extremely well. Always very thoughtful and consistent with the answers he gives. Can't remember the show (maybe 360), him and Ross Lyon were both on and it was like chalk and cheese. Chalk that had been left out in the rain too long and Chris was a smooth Pule cheese.
The contract extensions are great, adding Rowell or Butters would top it off nicely.

You a glass half full sort of guy aren’t you.

I think it is pretty obvious to say that we should be chasing a top line midfielder.

So the players that have been linked as possibly available over the last 12 months, Rowell, Butters, LDU, Brayshaw etc, that's a no brainer.

I don't think we should bother chasing "depth" midfielders, like say Kennedy that went from Carlton to the Bulldogs for instance, if they are the best available I would prefer to develop the younger players we have in Knevitt, Clark, Clohesy, even if it means a down year.

Got to have someone willing to bravely look for negatives and forecast impending doom. I think we can all agree that if there's one thing the internet lacks, it's people moaning about shit. God bless me and my courageous pessimism.

On Harley Reid, the salary and trade deals being talked about are not justifiable. He might be special but he still needs quality around him to be sucessful. I dont see that working for Geelong.

Maybe Richmond's aggressive clear out last year was designed to get in a lot of young talent and then finish last so they can take Ried with pick 1 in this years draft. If Richmond finishes last, all it takes is Reid to not do a deal and then enter the draft. I think it is a plausable senario.

Nothing wrong with your post re: Midfielders... It is just stating facts.

We are into the bigdogs for sure... Rowell, Butters, Bont (LDU more unlikely but still would be ideal).

Being into them and landing one is a different thing though.

Fingers crossed Clark/Knevitt can step it up and we land one of the above names.

I have no doubt the club is trying to do so.

Reid is contracted until end of 2026. I doubt he would join a club that would be years away from finals, unless he is only interested in money.
