Holmes Smith Clark to mid rotation
Stewart more time in mid please
Conway to become main Ruck
MOC or Mullin may become tagger

Knevitt and Clohesy will be tested
Danger to spend more time in F50
Replace Rohan and stop intercepts
If Jezza roams, need extra marking fwd
Take pressure off Neal and Ollie Henry
Tall mobile Fwd try COS Edwards Polk
Alternately rotate a defensive forward

That's my issue as well - he needs to play at AFL intensity , he's not gun shy but you can't be laconic in the roles he's going to play.
Honestly, I think our defensive play inside our forward half has generally been excellent since 2022 (notable exception of Stengle's chasing in the PF).
Kudos to Buzza, has made a good career at the lower level for himself out of sheer hard work
If he had held that mark in the VFL Grand Final in the last minute he might have had the chance to save the game for Southport.
As much as I hate seeing him play fwd, Jack Henry could also be deployed as a defensive forward on an interceptor too

Could see Danger playing forward being a huge game changer for us. The problem is we have to win the ball out of the middle somehow.
Personally, I'm pretty happy with our forward balance. Close in particular is a very good defensive small.
The bidding rules are changing next year, so it terms of “how much longer do we have of this rort” the answer is 0?
It’s improving but is it to the point it isn’t a rort?? How much does Brisbane pay for anabelle next year if he goes draft pick no 3?? How many picks in the 20’s would get the points??
I think another thing we need to consider is having an AFL expert such as shifter Sheehan come in and analyze the exact worth of these academy kids or do a full 18 club head list management interview to get the most accurate worth of these kids draft placement because come draft night, what is happening is because they are an academy kid and others know they can’t get them they are sliding a lot further than they would in an open draft… is that equitable?? No.
Their value should be more accurately decided pre draft night and told “ this is what you need to pay up in points”. Don’t let the inequitable draft night discrepancy come into play. It often just turns out a team bids because they feel letting it slide further is an injustice.
Ashcroft was widely considered the top prospect in this crop and he slid to 5 for no other reason than an academy tie.
I don't think this will work. There's no way to do it objectively as such.
IMO, get rid of the discount, and just go from there.

The clubs have got no one to blame but themselves.
they need to get real and bid on these players where they should be picked, and force teams to pay as close to full value as possible to get them.
A clutch of mid 20’s picks is never going to deter these clubs from securing a truly elite talent, why these clubs insists on playing nice with their rival clubs is beyond me.

A better bidding system would be that the club who owns the academy rights to the player should have to announce before the draft the highest equivalent pick they would be willing to use on the player. Then that player is fair game to every club who has a pick before that number.
EG. This year before the draft Brisbane announce that they are willing to pay the equivalent of pick 3 to secure Ashcroft. Then richmond have the option to actually select Ashcroft at pick 1, and north have the option to select him at pick 2. If neither of these things happen, Brisbane have to honour their bid and pay the equivalent points to pick 3 in the draft.
That way Brisbane still have the first option of securing their player, but they actually have to put some skin in the game and make a realistic bid on his worth. Otherwise he is fair game to any club that values the player higher.

The costs are born by the competition, while the advantage is gained by both the clubs involved in the pick cycling comes from a gap between the DVI + discount and the actual value of the picks.
I think top end teams will have trouble accumulating those group of picks in the 20. Brisbane would have started with what became pick 23, with a value of around 800 they needed to double it. They would have been unable to cycle it for that many points. Their initial trade to Richmond would only have gotten them another 170 points, compared to the extra 600 points. Their second trade to Essendon would have lost them around 200 points not gained them a further 100
Problem is that if Ashcroft can be gotten by a bunch of picks in the 40s, there is zero incentive for Richmond to bid on him.
A bid at 1 would have stopped Brisbane from getting Marshall.
Nah, they could have gone into deficit to get him.
The decision changes, rather then using dreg picks, it would have pulled it from their first rounder the next year. Their vulnerability might have encourage some one to try and poach him rather then let him slide.
yeah I like the balance too. And our ground pressure is still very good. Just less marking power with Chucky and Hawk gone now which could make us slightly more prone to intercepts. But I'd only be swinging Jack forward as a last resort in certain matchups if we are getting killed in the air

Knevitts versatility will see him on a list in 2026 (whether it's ours or someone else's is a separate debate). Stevens would be more in danger because of his athletic profile (or lack thereof).

I quite like the idea, for academies at least, that when a club bids on a player the bidding club still gets the player. The club that developed the kid just get the pick immediately after. Every bid is then legitimate. Every reward for developing the player appropriate.
Don't know what to do for father sons though.
Possibly, but regardless, it really doesn't do much for Richmond. Arguably, they would prefer that the best youngsters go to a team at the top of the premiership cycle, rather than a more direct competitor on the arse end of the ladder.
I really don't want to throw yet more picks into the draft, it just screws over the team who holds the next pick.
