I mean, to be fair, we do that too. Bowes, Martin et alI just love that we never go for the small fish
Next 24 hours will be interesting. If Rowell doesn't come out and immediately rule it out, then it's much much more likely to be "on".Probably a 5% chance it happens
All over the news services in SEQ today Rowell out Cats favorite nothing as yet from the man himself but.I mean, to be fair, we do that too. Bowes, Martin et al

Henry, Bruhn, Ceglar, Steven, Jenkins, old Ablett, Higgins, Tuohy...essentially my point was that we only ever go after the big fish, when we have cap and draft capital to spend.

Plenty of room at Geelong for the ok-to-good as well.
I'd say every club goes after the big fish and most likely talk to all the decent players who are OOC or looking to move clubs.I don't think you're understanding my point, lol. Is Bruhn being paid 800K, did we give up a Top 15 pick for him even though he was Pick 12 a mere 2 years before? Did we give up much for Henry or a Top 15 pick for him even though he was Pick 17 a mere two years before? Even Bailey Smith, reportedly have paid him 700K and gave up Pick 17.
We don't give up a lot, unless we're going after a really big fish. And we always go after the big fish, when we want to give up a lot. Other clubs give up a heap for over the hill players/borderline stars. We don't overpay on salary or picks, unless they're an absolute star of the comp - and we always chase these stars, is my point.
Yeah, ok, I get what you're saying as such - i.e. that we don't give out deals like Carlton did with Mitch McGovern.I don't think you're understanding my point, lol. Gold Coast fan base more worried about the Rowell meeting that I expected. Said 'he never full settled down' and has 'likely met with other clubs.' Probably a 5% chance it happens, but the pitch of 'come be the next Selwood to complement Holmes and Smith', is pretty fantastic.
What I find most interesting though, is that this is the one that leaked. Obviously his manager, but reckon it could be along the lines of 'you pay my client this, and you show improvement, or my client will take the offer from Geelong.'
I just love that we never go for the small fish. All these other clubs with their little moves, and we're like 'nah'...Boak, Danger, Jez, Bailey, Curnow, Oliver, Butters, Rowell, that's the big fish we want. We don't always get who we want, but we always try - and we always put the fear of god into the sides that we try and take these players from.
Just a delight supporting a club that always wants to contend.
Is Jye Clark not coming on like was once thought? He was certainly touted as the next Selwood like mid!It sets up an intriguing paradigm …of going after players to make us competitive then makes us a more serious destination for other players. The players in club like the idea of being competitive and always being a chance although I dare say a few mids might feel a little mixed in emotion … and now that we are targeting younger players we seem less ripe and a more rounded age profile.

I stopped reading into that stuff from him a long time ago tbh. They put him in there last year… Scott even said what Clark does he does better than anyone else in the side in that role, then pulled him out of that role and plonked him on the outside (where he isn’t great imo).
Rowell had his own significant injury concerns, lest we not forget, KNEE and SHOULDER.
His last 3 seasons have been great.

I'd be nervous about Rowell and wouldn't overpay. He's a gun clearance player but he's average to poor outside of that.
Lots of teams have got themselves in trouble going overboard on inside mids with no versatility. I'd be disappointed if Bruhn doesn't become close to the player Rowell is now and I'm not sure they'd combine together particularly well.

He got a good amount of time in the guts early last year and was then removed to play an outside role.
Then he was playing on the outside late last year in the VFL.
Now he was apparently playing half back in yesterday match sim.
I think that’s a sign that we have conceded he isn’t ready to be a solid midfielder or MC misjudged the level he was at.

The kid needs time but he isn’t as much of a sure thing as most thought imo.
