Close is an integral part of our gameplan, he provides great link up play up the ground. Has great chemistry with the other forwards and contributes goals and assists.
No chance I would let him go, team chemistry is so important it’s much harder to throw someone in and expect them to gell. Every team has a few stars but flags are won when you have players like Close playing a role for the team that helps others shine.
I think the poster had a decent point, that if Clohesy were to push himself into the starting 22, it would be Close whose position would be least secure.

IMO, if I had to pick one of Miers, Stengle, Mannagh and Close to leave out, it's Close. Whether Clohesy can actually manage this is the other question.

Yeah sorry, I just thought it was well written and didn't want to edit. Probably no surprise to any of us, but nice that it's out there just to get up the nose of other fans, if anything. :) although I do like your house analogy better.
And yes, I'm old enough to remember the bad old days, and will spend my life being grateful for the integrity of the late Frank Costa, proudly, a relative . We are a destination Club for a reason.
I read this earlier. As you said it is well written. Not to mention cleared eyed.

He mixed up small forward and mid duties as a junior.
I see him more like a Kieren Jack esque player. That 4th/5th/6th mid in the rotation that rests forward, rather than a true small.

If we just want to get him games it could work, but I tend to agree that his competitors are Clark and Knevitt rather than the mosquito fleet we've got.

People are going to MELT when they see how many players Cats are going to pick up via F/S in the coming years lol

Ben Rongdit is also NGA prospect for us right?
Ranked top 25 at the moment.

Time for us to start smashing out early draft picks to the complaints of everyone else
Jesse Mellor is also NGA for us, was announced as the Falcons VC the other week.

When JUH was younger he was zoned to Geelong. Unfortunately this changed by the time he was draft age. I remember Matthew Stokes having a lot to do with him and being really positive about him. Given he comes from just up the road and would have had positive experiances with the club, I think we are a real chance if we want him. If a guy takes a year off without a physical injury his value going down fast.

I definitely think he is worth the risk. There is a risk obviously but for a late first rounder I'm all in.

Three things I’ve got to relay after my lunch today.

We are still trying to find a way for Reid. The belief is he wants us but having the assets while he’s under contract seems basically impossible right now.

In spite of what Twomey has said today about Rowell staying we are still in deep talks with Rowell’s management and my source is confident this is the one most likely to happen.

They are the two main plays here. Obviously both can’t co-exist. The Rowell move makes more sense just in terms of him being out of contract.

I’ve spoken to my source from Melbourne. Oliver is doing his best and been focussed but if the opportunity arose again, he would again request a trade to us. So maybe if Demons completely bomb this year, who knows…

And the big one is, my mate is confident on JUH. Sees us more viable than Sydney to land him. A lot to play out but he believes there is zero percent chance he stays at Dogs. The issue will be what they ask for him at the trade table.

Also, we continue asking the question of how happy Bont is.. not sure why this isn’t a story yet.

The melts really only happen when a club gets a r1 ..probably early R1. The Dogs have been on the end of more FSon?academy gifts lately … Darcy look like manna from heaven yet we have hardly heard boo about Croft .. (yet)

So unless our luck changes most of our FSon chances look like late to Rookie chances …that knowing our history we probably give a chance to ..as much as for talent as .. our believe in the process and keeping in good with the families.

Even Rongdit playing in the u17 game looked like more a second half of the draft player but who knows by Nov.

Of course if JaggerM suddenly became a top10 chance then …yep then clubs would sound like the witch in the wizard of oz...

Thanks for the jungle drums ...

Nice to be linked to players ..but hard to see how we get these all done.

To me Reid would have to have a full blown JHF meltdown to be traded while in contract especially if Warner stays at the Swans.

One would think any chance of Reid in 26 would require a hat trick of top20/top10 picks .. and getting Rowell also would require substantial future picks. They seem mutually exclusive deals…. unless we lost a player that enabled to gain extra picks.

My understanding is that Oliver is unlikely. He reported some things back to Melbourne after meeting some of our players. I'll leave it at that

Been told we are a very good chance on JUH.

My source is part of the list management team at another Melbourne club.

The decent thing about Clohesy (as well as Mannagh) is that he can be played in the middle as well if required. I still don't think he stays in the side if we have a fully fit list, but that's a big if.
IIRC he seemed to always be amongst the goalkickers in the VFL - is he a goal kicking mid or a mid that kicks goals when resting forward?
Either way I like him - looks to be a handy replacement for Atkins when he hangs up the boots?

Oliver = audit??

Oliver = audit??

Surely not? I could see Dees and Brad Green getting pissy abouttrying to poach a guy who 6 months to a year earlier we’re trying to drive out…

Oliver is contracted, he wouldn’t know any more info on inside workings than what any other player would know.

My local Brisbane source who gives me little tidbits said a couple weeks back that Rowell is 50/50 atm, was more 70% out the door before the end of last season.

He reckons very much still in play but all contingent on how Suns go this year.

We as Cats fans would be praying on Suns to underperform again.
That will drive Matt and his agent to think, “maybe it’s time to look out for me”

Well, apparently Melbourne were one of the club's to complain off the back of some info they got, we went hard at Oliver, and Warhorse suggests above that Oliver went back to Melbourne with info ?

It makes sense, if it allegedly occurred.
