Hi all,

This is not specifically on topic, but rather than create a specific thread for this, I'll place it here and a reminder in the Forum Rules thread, to gain maximum exposure.

I note that this relates to a practice that has happened on this board, and indeed on most boards within BigFooty, and I have done it, so no-one's pointing fingers specifically at anyone in particular. But please comply so we don;t have problems going forwards.

NewCorp has expressed concern about whole articles (or close to) being cut and pasted onto this site. News claims it breaches their copyright. Posters here are the publisher of each of their posts, so you (as an individual) might be liable for any breach of copyright where you have copied material from another source.

If referring to material from a source outside of this website, the accepted rule on BigFooty is that users may quote one or two paragraphs only and include a link to the full article.

Mods are being asked to remind posters of this requirement:

5. No illegal content; respect copyright owners
  • Articles from other sites should be limited to a relevant paragraph or two and a link to the source.
Please adhere to the above site rules so that the Mods don't need to involve themselves in your posting.

Further to the above, here is the request that site management has made to Moderators:

Warn Users

There is a new Warning to apply to posts which you believe to contain infringing material - mainly full copies of news articles:

Possible copyright material.

The user will get this message with the Warning:

=============

This post looks like it may contain re-published material from another source:

You are the publisher of your posts, so copyright holders are within their rights to request the removal of their material, and to take action against you for breach of copyright if you do not.

Please remove any posts which contain, for instance, full articles from news organisations or material which might otherwise breach the copyright of a third party.

You may of course retain small portions of material which you are directly commenting on, and link to the source - just edit the post and take out the excess material, and link to the source if you have not already.

Posting or failing to remove such material could be against our terms of service:

You must agree to these terms and rules before using the site.

The media publicity continues - I never heard of this YouTuber but seems his viewing audience is more than our country’s population

One of the biggest live streamers on the planet has gatecrashed GWS Giants training, challenging players to races and showing off surprisingly solid footy skills.

American 19-year-old Darren Watkins Jr., much better known as IShowSpeed, has over 33 million subscribers on YouTube with much of his content involving ‘IRL streams’, where he simply explores a country as his many thousands of fans watch live.

Good on this young man for wanting to do something to make a difference. I hope that you can continue your work, once at the Giants.

Adopted Ballarat local and new Giant Ollie Hannaford felt the regional city’s pain this year during a devastating two-month period when three women were killed. The deaths of Samantha Murphy, Rebecca Young and Hannah McGuire sparked grief and anger, but also unity against gender-based violence within the close-knit Ballarat community. The three women died violently, allegedly at the hands of men.

Bendigo-raised Hannaford – who the Giants used a top-20 pick on at last week’s AFL draft – was boarding at St Patrick’s College in Ballarat, and wanted to make a stand, too. Hannaford’s conversation with the school’s boarding master, Tam Westwood, led to the creation of the “Break the cycle” event, designed to raise funds and awareness about violence against women. Students and staff took turns riding four exercise bikes non-stop for 24 hours, helping raise more than $8000 for the cause. Hannaford hopes it will become an annual event on the St Pat’s calendar.

5. TOM GREEN (GWS GIANTS)

The big-bodied Giants star played in all 25 GWS games this year, showcasing his accumulation under pressure in addition to being an immovable object in the middle of the ground. The 23-year-old, who will tick over 100 games played next season, managed an average of 14.5 contested possessions per game this season, trailing only dual Brownlow medallist Patrick Cripps. And speaking of the Brownlow, Green — who was touted in the pre-season as a candidate and will again be expected to finish near the top in ‘25 — finished sixth with 27 votes as he continued his AFL ascension.

Who is the best key defender win the AFL?

SEN’s AFL Fan Survey asked footy fans all around the country who they believe to be the best key defender right now.

On top is Sam Taylor from GWS who has received over 30 per cent of the votes.

The 2022 All-Australian is comfortably clear of Brisbane’s premiership co-captain Harris Andrews who sits second with just over 20 per cent of the votes.

Carlton’s Jacob Weitering is narrowly behind on 19 per cent, while Hawthorn skipper James Sicily is fourth at a little less than nine per cent.

Keefe missing two sitters didn’t help.
I agree, although they missed some easy ones as well to give us a lead of 44 ( 12-8 to 4-12) at the time.
I think Keefe was selected mainly as back up ruck in case Briggs went down. I think Keefe if playing had to be used more as a backman, anyway that's last year and quite frankly I don't hold it against keefe but think we probably should have delisted him.
Perhaps the reason we didn't is concerns that Madden may not be ready and/ or be injured this year.

Keefe missing two sitters didn’t help.
For me the the what if is Binga playing on and missing when Jesse would have had a set shot from the square, exacerbated by the lions going the length for an 11 point turnaround didn't help.
Instead of leading by 20 we only led by 9.
Going back out to 20 would have taken the air out of the tires I reckon.

The loss was in my view down to playing an unfit Cogs, and midfielders playing about 3 minutes too long.
Cogs subbed out in Q1 from a fresh injury following a brave act trying to give Cadman some space to mark?
The players went into their shells and didn’t attack when the game opened up. Just waited to be picked off by a team throwing caution to the wind.

Who is the best key forward in the AFL?
That was one of the key questions asked in the SEN AFL Fan Survey for 2024.

We provided 11 options and almost 2,000 votes flooded in like a flurry of goals.

Geelong star Jeremy Cameron has received 35 per cent of votes to stand alone as the best key forward in the AFL according to the majority of voters. He is narrowly ahead of GWS’ reigning Coleman Medallist Jesse Hogan on 30 per cent while Carlton’s Charlie Curnow is third on 23 per cent. That trio is well ahead of the rest of the key forward pack.
