Oh 100%. It’s such a shame, every second ad on TV especially in primetime viewing when kids are watching - with only the tiniest disclaimer at the end.

Heard kids behind me about 15 years old or so talking about odds for anytime goal scorers. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing sadly
Kids are who the parasites are after, old gamblers die and have to be replaced, even worse having Nathan Brown tell the kids who to put in your multi

They found that when the person's partner was a gambling addict, the odds of intimate partner violence increased 10.5 times

I'm going to assume that AFL HQ is aware and that they are happy to continue exaserbating the problem for financial gain.

If you are familiar with the concept of 'washing' (i.e. sportswashing, greenwashing) then you'd also realise that the AFL are everything-washers.

Gambling direclty linked to domestic violence? We'll gamblewash that one away with a minute's silence before a game.

Multiple decades of racism? We'll racismwash that away with two indigenous rounds, changing team names and hiring uncle Colin all September.

Hundreds of past players crippled with head injuries? We'll concussionwash that away by telling our broadcasters to say the words "HIA" and "SCAT5" to make things seem all medical and fancy.

It's been on betting slips for over 20 years in Victoria.
Really? I never knew that. I can't say I ever heard anyone on Sky Channel use it either. And they were based all over Australia.

Does Sky Channel in pubs still exist? I'm old enough to remember when they use to show "adult" entertainment on it after 10pm. (Only if you went out the back to flick the switch on the satellite dish).

This is a really naive take.

By banishing the "gambling overlords" they would simply be replaced by even worse underground gambling overlords.

Should we legalize illicit drugs? Assault rifle ownership?

If the arguement against banning a problem is "People will just do it illegally, and even worse!" then the solution must be to legalize everything right?

Much like cigarettes, gambling advertising is insanely out of control. and it should be curbed, if not stopped. No more sponsorships for NRL teams, no more advertising at stadiums, no TV advertising before 9pm or whenever the MA15+ cutoff is on FTA.

Market percentages for a sports result or a horse race. They are progressively getting worse. And the worse they are, the less value to the customers, the faster they lose their cash

Wont be long until $1.85 is the new standard line for a 50/50 result.

Insane that they are allowed to have such huge margins and then ban/restrict anyone who finds an edge or starts winning 'too much'.

There are extremely strong arguments for legalizing a lot of drugs in a controlled manner. Certainly would destroy most organized crime syndicates.

People aren't illegally buying assault rifles in large numbers so it's not an issue that needs to be changed.

This guy tracks Browns multis at $20 a bet.

There's a good lesson here. This is not a particularly bad performance but more like par for the course if you're putting on multis on at those odds. Multis are by far the most popular type of bet but also the stupidest. You'd be surprised how much of a betting agency's income comes from multis. People can't just back Brisbane to win anymore, they need to go Lachie 30+, Daniher to kick a goal etc., as well all added in.

There have been varied results from other parts of the world, but I'm in favour of controlled rather than criminalised drugs in many cases, especially marijuana which is very widely used, and often ignored by police.

The "Underground Gambling Overlords" is a weird tangent, I think most people want gambling more regulated, rather than banned, and business ethics reinforced. Gillon bouncing from a job where he negotiated with the gambling companies (and received huge government resources, requiring a higher standard of behavior) to the other side of that desk is a pretty dodgy look at the very least.

We're seeing at present many "legitimate" licensed casino operators have strayed into the dark side, we need more control there for sure.

Tabcorp CEO Gillon McLachlan has ordered his staff back to the office five days a week as part of a broad reset designed to create “a winning culture” and lift company performance, joining Amazon in the latest salvo over the work from home battle.

The new policy, which affects more than 1500 office-based employees across its Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices, was flagged by McLachlan in a video update a few weeks ago but confirmed by Tabcorp’s executive team in an all-staff email on Monday.
