Dear ultimate w
after looking up SMCA records, it appears s anderson was association bowling average winner last year, rep matches which includes country week was j morrison. Hendo was in all gippy team. Thats 1 out of 3

For the record it was 3 from 3.
SMCA 1st bowling average with 12.05 (26 wickets)
GCL rep bowler of the year (smca) 8 wickets
GCL all-gippsland.

For the records. I have no problem missing out to the three spinners that were picked but it was just intresting point of observation. Thought i might have done enough to get a game.

I can understand the confusion here. Association bowling trophy is awarded after completion of home and away matches. Hendo won it. However, if you include finals, Hendo finished 3rd behind Magnuson and Anderson and marginally in front of Steve Parry.

Hendo, I would say you have missed out for a couple of reasons:

a) consistent records over time/perception of being a better player. ie. Durrant is widely regarded (and in my opinion correctly) as the best off spinner in Gippsland, and possibly this side of Melbourne. Parry regularly plays List A games for Lancs. Jie Van Berkel has plundered this league with his leggies for years.

b) versatility. Parry is one of the top 5 bats in the league and a very good fielder. Van Berkel is a very good ground fielder, and capable batsman. Durrant is a very good catcher and capable batsman.

In answer to your question, it has probably never happened before, however, you could also ask the question, when has 1 association had 4 spinners capable of getting selected in the All Gippsland side given enough opportunity, and the answer is probably also never.

Also, statistically, you have not had a great start to the year with the ball.

sorry to the ultimate warrior (who i have now worked out must be hendo) but i am new to computers and blogs. i looked at smca website and saw s anderson with best average (for wickets over 20) prior to finals. is it 25 wickets to qualify?
also saw j morison as most wickets in all rep games.

I agree that all three should play first!! Never said they shouldn't and i don't have any sour grapes at all. As i said it was just intresting. People could make the point that Campbell, Bolton, Donald could play as well. A very strong part of our comp that there is plenty of spinners with ability. You could also throw mayman in if bowled more.

mayhem, i don't think there is to much wrong with my start of the season. Disappointed i didn't get a game as i am in great form ..... with the bat!!! hahaha. If i could learn to bowl better you could say i am an allrounder!!!hahahaha

From all reports, Campbell is quite erratic with his line and length at this stage, probably due to the length of time out of the game recently. Bolton is a rung below the guys mentioned, and Mark Donald has only bowled off spin in 5 A grade games in total. I will reserve judgement on him until he has at least taken 20 A grade wickets in his career. Promising start, I will admit, however, there are a lot of flaws in his bowling. For the record, I am hopeless, and shouldn't be considered, unless of course they start picking a side made up entirely of guys over 180 kgs.

I must admit, I was very impressed with your little scoop shots back over the bowlers head, beautiful to watch!

Nat has always been erratic with his line and length, but he can really bowl some unbelievable balls!!! Not sure if he is suited to containing bowling in one dayers as he is a really aggressive bowler looking to get the batsmen out every ball.

DUTCHY HOLLAND A CHANCE TO DEBUT!

The kid has come a long way since I took him to the cleaners in house cricket.

At least they have an Australian shirt with their name on the back, which is something I will never have!

Just buy one and put your name on it, not that hard. Plenty of ppl have done that before.

Watto man of the series. Over 1000 runs at 50 this year, good to see him finally deliver on all the potential he had. Loves playing in india, dominated first IPL, did ok in the tests over there too.

First test watson and hughes will play.

What are all of Donalds floors that the bowlers ahead of him dont have?

I think mayhem is referring to his inexperience as a spinner, Mark Donald is a good bowler imo (as written previously). And i am not exactly sure on what flaws he is talking about but the spinners listed before him have proven records, bowled to a variety of batsmen and played in different playing conditions.

These are the advantages that they have over him at the moment imo. He may prove to be alot better than all these bowlers but not at this present stage.

Im not saying he should be ahead of the spinners mentioned either and have no problems with him having to perform over a period of time before he is selected. Mayhem has mentioned that he has many floors and i was just wondering what they're?

Suprised to hear about the Sale/Stratford result with Sale coming 2wickets away from outrighting Stratty.

Will the top 4 change now? Sale have now got a really good top 6 now and the bowling attack is pretty handy with the 3 pace bowlers and 2 good spinners and a "new" recruit who can bowl a bit of spin to.

Have Stratty got any other batsmen that can come into the side? On paper that line up that batting line up looks a bit thin and might struggle to post big enough scores to beat the top teams this season

I don't know if i am slow on the uptake but i might take a guess and say John Mayman is playing at Sale. Judging by that post and the fact he didn't bat for stratford on weekend, well according to the local paper.

Is this correct???

Whats going on at Stratford??

john mayman leaves mid year, mick roberts left???, chris aurisch at sale, simon waixel??? andrew tatterson not playing????

My problem has nothing to do with Stratty, the club. I have performed poorly since I have gone to Stratty, which has led to me questioning my place in the side, and wanting to get back to where I have had success as a player, batting at the top of the order, opening. Unfortunately, there is no spot for me there at Stratty. In reality, I have performed that poorly at Stratty that I would probably be considered a bowler/2nds player in their eyes. I have come to the decision to go back to my home club, and try and get my cricket back on track. Also, I am well down the pecking order as far as leadership and so on goes at Stratty, but, I would like to think I have something to offer to a young, inexperienced Sale side in the leadership stakes.

In relation to the other people that you have mentioned, there have been a lot of outside factors that have mounted up against Stratford through no fault of theirs as a club.

Mick Roberts has got a job interstate and will be moving away for a couple of years. He made the decision that he wanted to play some senior cricket with his brother before they were both too old, hence him playing in Leongatha this year.

Aurisch has gone to Sale to play with Steve Parry, as they are close mates.

Simon Waixel has been unable to commit week in, week out due to work for a number of seasons and has played when he is not working.

Andrew has been doing more and more work away from the Sale/Stratford area, in Buxton and surrounds, and due to this, as far as I am aware, he is unable to commit to playing regularly, and doesn't see the point of playing every now and then.

Personally, I found my time at Stratford to be extremely enjoyable with a keen bunch of players, and a club that make every attempt to do everything to make sure the club is both an inviting environment, whilst being a superior training and playing facility. The people around the club are very passionate about their cricket, and all in all, they are a great club, with a great bunch of people there.

Unfortunately for me, I am 27, and my personal performances have been poor for 2 years, and I don't see the point in wasting Stratford's or my time any longer. I know it is a strange decision to leave mid season, however, if I had stayed and bounced around in the batting line up and failed on 7/8/9 of the remaining 9 occassions that I would have batted for the club, I don't think that would have done much for the club in the long run. They might as well give a young person an opportunity to start being exposed to A grade cricket. The change will also hopefully help me to rekindle some form with the bat!

If you need a challenge Mayhem then join the Cain Älphonse Logan crew at the Hurricain Devils"in the TDCA. Plenty of oppurtunity in the top order, as evidenced by the old hack that bats at 3 for them. Worked wonders for your mate Steve Nicholls, who is making hundreds every other weekend.
