There's allways at least a couple of spinners in odi teams in India, most times it's one genuine and a couple of part timers but that's what I'm saying would you be better off playing a spinner who is attacking and yeah hauritz could play that role and then the other/s are to keep things tight eg Clarke/ symonds/ Dave Hussey.

Either way you look at it I think you need a spinner who is going to attack and try and get wickets playing on conditions that favour slower or spin bowlers

If your spin bowlers don't take wickets in those conditions, the Indians who play spin well will just milk them for runs

Yeah but what is the use of having a side 8/320 or 4/320. Your still chasing the same score.

You rarely see sides bowled out in one day matches in India, therefore wickets aren't going to neccesarily stop runs. The Indians smashed Krezja and from memory his 8 wickets were probably products of Indian batsmen slogging him bar the couple he bowled through the gate. He doesnt a bowl a "straight" ball or vary his spin, flight etc therefore on the small grounds he will be easy hitting and easily worked.

Actually your post makes no sense, you talk about playing krezja then hauritz in the same attacking role with three players who arent touring.

Either way you look at it???

Jason Krezja will not take/be capable of taking 5 wickets for 30 in a one dayer off ten overs, if he was he would be touring.

Not sure he is as good or better than Ajantha Mendis, Murali, Shahid Afridi or Dan Vettori. I would say he is approx. on par with Johan Botha and Graeme Swansong.

Reckon in the last 12 months hauritz would have as good or better numbers than all those guys, and that includes the champions trophy and one dayers in SA and england so against good oppostition. Mendis started well what i have seen lately been fairly ordinary. Swan was terrible in the chapions trophy. Afridi was ok, best 20/20 bowler by far though.

I don't care if Holland is good enough or not. It is just great to see some Vics get a chance. For years there have been many terrible NSW players get games when they have not been good enough.
Here is a side of the Worst players to represent Aussies in test cricket since 1990. Would love to see some other sides...

Jacques
Hughes
Phillips
M.Waugh - Most over rated player EVER (averaged 40. looked good though)
C.White
S.Young
S.O'Donnell
G.Manou
G.Robertson
S.Muller
S.Cook

Would love to see some comparables.

Your taking the piss i take it?

Mark Waugh might have been a bit over rated but he was a good player, and dont forget the bowlers who he had to face in their prime over the journey, Akram, Younis, Aktar, Ambrose, Walsh, Gough, Murali, Vass, Pollock, Donald to name a few. Lot more of a handfull then the trundlers that are going around these days.

If you say mark waugh was over rated i raise you and say Gilchrist was even more over rated, was good to watch but a "slogger" and a flat track bully.

Jaques if fit would still be opening the batting for the aussies, good player.

Not sold on Hughes, but id agree with white, cook, muller, young.

McGain is a monty for that side, he is probably the worst selection in history of Australian cricket, Old, Overated, and dished up some of the poorest crap the worlds ever seen.

Matthew Elliot,Andrew McDonald, Beau Casson , Dan Cullen and Mark Cosgrove are certain starters also.

I am not a big one to put too much weight on statistics, the fact that Australia's ODI pace attack in the world helps Hauritz, as he rarely bowls to set top order batsmen, however, I decided to test your theory of stats in the last 12 months. And, no, he doesn't have the best statistics of all spin bowlers in the world.

I have a question for you. Do you have Setanta Sports? Otherwise, how would have seen Mendis? I have watched every ball of the past 2 Sri Lankan series, and Mendis has been by far the most impressive spin bowler in the world from what I have seen. I'm not sure whether you read an article which said that after his amazing first year in ODI's, where he averaged 11 with the ball, that his figures had dropped off, but, he had just come off the best year ever by a spinner in ODI history. Of course he was going to "drop off" from those heights. I would say a year with 40 wickets at 21 isn't too bad from Mendis, a bit better than Hauritz's 31 @ 25.

Oh, and forget talking about the opposition that Hauritz played against. He returned those statistics from 24 matches, 7 of which were played in England were the average score in the series was probably closer to 200 than 300, whereas Mendis plies his trade on the subcontinent where 300 is a par score. The quality of the opposition in the Champions Trophy isn't necessarilly all that fantastic either, as every nation is invited to play in it.

And, for the record, Hauritz's record was 3rd amongst spinner in the past 12 months, so, alot better than I expected, however, still not the best in the world. I would still pick Vettori and Afridi in front of him as I consider them much better bowlers, and it goes without saying that Mendis and Murali are far superior bowlers to him, and their records over the past 12 months show that.

Never played a test match.

Gilchrist flat track bully?? His first test century was in an extremely tight match against Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq and Wasim Akram he belted them from pillar to post. Him and my man Alfie won the test match.

The amount of games Gilchrist A, won off his own bat under pressure or B, put Australia into winning positions would be second only to Ricky Ponting in the last ten years.

If you call that overrated then the entire test side of the last ten years was no good in your opinion.

Gilly was a good player and did win some games of his own bat but I wouldn't say he was a great batsman. I would say langer and martyn were better players then gilchrist yet they don't get the recognition like what gilchrist did

Mendis is very good, not doubting that but last 12 months hasnt been as good as the start of his career. Played zimbabwe 6 times at home and bangas 4 times i think and a 5/22 against UAE helps the averages a bit considering only played about 40 games. Sri lanka have Malinga and another good opener who made one day team of the year i think.

I said hauritz was close and he is, cant be stuffed looking at all the averages but 31 at 25 and good economy is still very good year for an off spinner. So me saying one of the best is accuarte isnt it!!!!!

I have watched every ball of the past 2 Sri Lankan series.

Here is a suggestion. Get a girlfriend, watch pr0n, find some friends or a new hobby, hell even get a drug addiction. It would be much more entertaining than watching every ball of the last two Sri Lankan series.

He's got a wife and plenty of mates, who gives a **** if he watches every ball of a test match. What's the difference between that and somone watching and taping every episode of their favorite tv show. How about you get a life instead of reading every sentence on every post and bagging people

Well if he has a wife that probably explains it. As for me not having a life, I suggest you come out with me for a night.

Good point, if you really sat up at night and watched every ball of the 6 one dayers that Sri Lanks played against a half assed Zimbabwe side and the 4 against the banga ya need a life.

I suppose you just have to know the bloke. Some people love doing marathons, some people like sucking mens dick's, some people like torturing small animals. Mayhem likes watching cricket!!! There are alot more things that he could enjoy that are alot worse than watching cricket.

Get over it!!!

I must conceded that I would be wrong on all fronts, as this Surkin guy sounds like an absolute legend and would surely know a lot more than me about everything.

He does. He also fronts a pop band better than you as well.

Have heard bundy are on the verge of a massive signing, if this guy plays for them they would be very stiff not to win the flag

Lynchy, he will not help them win the flag. (He) is Travis Birt and at the moment it is too wet to play in Tasmania, they don't look like playing until mid to late November. Will be very handy though in the few games he will play. Hope the league let it happen.

I'll take your word for it and that is a lot more realistic than the story I heard. Got told that tassie have told him going forward he isn't part of their plans and would only be a permanent in the 20 20s . I found that hard to believe but the guy it orginaly came from is a bundy man well up the pecking order.

2 completely different "stories" but sounds like he will line up for them at least one time

I am sure the VCA rules does not allow a contracted memebr state cricket be allowed permits to country cricket. He can not be cleared as his state contract would then be cancelled. Blows the old 2 profesionals out the window.

Do you think you could get him out Warrior?? having got a Michelle Pfieffer against Melbourne Cricket Club.

Surely not knowing you would count against you, as you have described the amount of "personality wickets" that you take against players in our league who try and slog you.

Knowing you and your love of competition, some sort of slinging match would develop and birt would look to take you "downtown". This is where the H Train would weave the magic.

I'd love odds on this one. I wonder the last time a player who is currently on a state contract has lined up in the SMCA?? The Turtle was the second leading runscorer in the country behind Boof Lehmann only 24 months ago, I would be very surprised if he believes his first class career is over at 27. Besides, his family have all moved away from this area, and I believe he has a mrs now in Tassie, so, why would he come back here?
