just one tiny nitpick, swine flu was an influenza virus, not a coronavirus.
SARS was coronavirus (more lethal case fatality but less contagious than COVID)

what is the cost of your clean slate approach? sure you will save some lives, if we manage to eliminate covid again. Then what? From your post, even with 70-80% vaccinated you want to keep some social restrictions. Do you want to keep people having to isolate for being a close contact even once fully vaccinated? this requirement will potentially cripple health care sector because people will be sitting on their ass instead of working.

stay a fortress? for how many years will you prevent movement of people from other countries? or will movement be capped by the availability of the stand alone quarantine facilities - which no doubt will become the playthings of the rich and influential.

i think the economic and social cost of your clean slate exceeds the benefit of the lives saved in a post vaccination situation.

Would have thought her reputation was worth keeping intact. She's not near retiring age so presumably she sees a future past her role as CHO. Prosecuting a flawed process won't look good on her résumé you'd think.

Saturday was the turning point for Victoria. The numbers meant Delta had beaten the hard and fast lockdown strategy as well, so we are now in the same position as NSW. Dan has done exactly what we did to turn the tide last year and it hasn't worked, despite his best efforts and competent contract tracing. We now have to vaccinate our way out of it. The restrictions are now there to flatten the curve, again just like they are in NSW.

I reckon we'll have 800 daily cases in a few weeks as well but the focus is now on hospitalisations and deaths. It's the mindshift every state needs to have sooner or later.

Problem if she retires is they'll get someone that will lean towards their ideals. Chant has no options. Leaks from within would be nice though (about more restrictions). She's no where near Qld CHO nutter level who is getting moved on through promotion

Police minister hits out at outdoor masks
The NSW Police minister has criticised the state's mandatory outdoor masks rules, declaring he didn't "understand" why the facial coverings are compulsory.
Under the new Covid rules which kicked in from 12:01am this morning, face masks are now compulsory whenever people leave their homes.
But Daivd Elliott told 2GB this morning he wasn't a fan.
"Frustrating isnt word I'd use, the word I'd use would get (2GB) banned from radio," Mr Elliott said.
"I dont understand it either, I'm not a clinician, but clinicians and medical practitioners say (masks) are a mitigating factor, it'll reduce risk."
He added he was "happy" to follow the rules but had plans for disposing of his masks once restrictions are eventually lifted.
"I've got my eye on the prize, I'm happy to go whatever clinicians recommend to get out of this as quickly as possible," Mr Elliott said.
"But there will be a ceremonial burning of masks in my backyard."
