Springfield*

Hopefully next year we see them go all the way with it and rule that the highest ranked team in the VFL GF should host the game in their home state.

With Tasmania coming in 2025 surely we are almost at a position of moving away from a vfl competition to a eastern reserves comp.
We had a bye in round 17 then 3 weeks later we have another bye this week in round 20

And it will still be called the VFL. I doubt adding one Tasmanian team to this comp will change the name if two NSW and three QLD teams didn’t do so.

It’s ridiculous, really.

We should host a HBS for all our home finals though

Qualifying Final - Will be either the Sat or Sun
Semi Final - Will be on the Sun as we host AFLW on Sat at HBS
Preliminary Final - Will be on the Saturday
It depends if the Suns want to fork out money to hold a stand alone game at Carrara. It costs a bit of money to play games there due to it not being owned by the club.

The AFL own the stadium and the Club operates it.

We had our standalone Elimination Final v Box Hill there last season so there will be no issues whatsoever to host the game at Heritage Bank Stadium.

Apologies, a quick google search found that the council owned the stadium. I still believe the club has to fork out a decent sum to play at HBS (as I believe that is the reason the grand final could be at BHA and not HBS), but good to see they are willing to host standalone finals.

Interested to see where read plays and how he goes against the bigger bodies.

Will get annihilated in the ruck at his weight at this level, and I don’t think Suns would risk that. I’m tipping rotating through the forward line with Burges and McLaughlin.

I was thinking maybe half back would be a good starting point.

Was looking at Lloyd Johnston’s stats.

Pretty consistently improving in terms of possessions across the year. How has he looked to the eye?
I've been really impressed, early on they seemed to try him forward a bit and even wing but looks best as the running half back. Beautiful mover and will be pushing for a spot with a strong pre season under his belt. Definitely one to keep.

19 AFL listed players. Rogers, Read, W Graham in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but is this Read's first ever game against men? I know it's a reserves game but he's going to face AFL listed players for the first time ever tomorrow and I have a feeling it's the first time he's ever played against men. Will be fascinating to see how he goes at a considerably higher level of footy and where they choose to play him on the ground. Nice to see Rogers keeping his spot in the team as well. Would be great for their confidence if the two lads got to play in a VFL premiership before we draft them.

He looked smooth with the ball from what I saw early in the season, but a bit lost with positioning. Looks as though he’s picking things up well.

A bit of NWM from st kilda about him.

Read has only played up to Colts level for club as of last year and essentially only U19 again this year, albeit at the highest level.
Not sure why Palmy didn’t play him up the grades, maybe they really wanted that Colts flag last year?
Considering Rogers had a full season of QAFL seniors under his belt for Broady last year, tomorrow will be Read’s first ever game against senior players.

Read has had two shots at goal from very close, missed both. Getting good separation to take marks though.
Definitely rushed the second one. He must be nervous but is still getting in good positions and taking marks around the goal square which is a good sign.
