Who were Quamby's goal scorers on the week end or should i say goal scorer!:)

Yes not very often you see a team 3rd on the ladder not only kick 1 goal for the game, but not even score in the 2nd half. To think if they had of won they would have been equal 2nd with Wandella. Fair to say there is quite a gap between the top 2 teams and the rest of the comp?

Every team is entitled too a shocker once or twice a year and hopefully thats our one out of they way, Go Hawkers!!

Another nailbiter between Ultima and Quambatook again, this time Ultima getting up by 2 points. Was a very entertaining game with Ultima having a great 3rd quarter but Quambatook storming home in the last to just fall short. Looks to be an interesting finals race. At this point in the season what will the finals look like and who will be the vote getters in each teams respective Best and Fairests?

As much as I am an umpire lover and not a hater. (I think they do a good job and are very important) Surely common sense says that there should be a minimum age limit for boundry umpires employed to umpire senior football matches. Its fantastic that that these kids are interested in the umpiring fraternaty, however, some af them wouldnt make a fair contest in the minies. The reserves use club supplied umpires that provide a decent throw in. I understand that using club umpires has its own problems but maybe someone else has a solution that can keep this current crop of boundry umpires involved but also giving a better contest at boundry throw in?
Dont get me wrong, Im not having a crack at the umpires.

You are having a crack at young boundary umpires, dont you read what write?
Unfortunately its only young kids hat are willing to do it for some extra pocket money, yes some of them aren't strong enough to throw the ball in properly, especially if its windy, but atleast these young kids are having ago instead of people like yourself sitting back and bagging them.
Either go down to umpire training and assist the kids or get a whistle and do it yourself.
Im far from a fighter on the footy field but the few times i have belted some one is when a dick head has abused a young boundary umpire for throwing it poorly, even witnessed a 10 or 12 year old girl getting abused one game by the ruckman and their supporters on the boundary line.
I gave the ruckman fair smack in the head and when i went over to the supporters the heros jumped in the cars quick smart.

Honestly to take pressure off the umpires struggling for quality numbers i would do away with boundary umps and reward a free kick to the team that doesnt touch it last, if its not obvious who last touched it then come in ten metres and ball it up, you'll find it will eventual do teams a favour and make them play the corridoor more often creating more scoring options instead of going wide to dead pockets.

I understand your point of view (except for the part where you smacked someone in the head, that was prob not the right course of action). Im not having a go at the individual umpires because I believe that they are doing the very best that they can. But when the boundry ump is consistantly 80 - 100 meters off the play then the central has to make the call and that is just not happening. All I asked for was some ideas for improvement and I think you have come up with one. Each club should, on a rotational basis, send two senior players to the umpires training to help out and exchange ideas, or vise versa the umpires could come to the clubs training throughout the year. This would be a good time to communicate with each other and you would probably find that some of the smart arse player may even find some respect for the job that the umps are doing. I reiterate that I am not having a go at the umpires, I think that they do a great job.

I reckon the central umpires should just bring the ball in 10 yards (about where the contest would be) and ball it up if the situation occurs when the kids cannot get the ball in. Let them run the boundary and call the ball out of bounds but get the central to ball it up

Can I nominate the first two people to go to umpires training or maybe better still when their club has a bye, actually go and umpire a match. First nomimee Tim Free, they way he conducted himself on Saturday during the match and more particularly after the match he was an absolute disgrace. As a Coach and a leader he did not set a great example for himself or his Club. There are better ways to deal with things than stand and abuse umpires in the middle of the ground.
Second nominee Murrabit captain Hein, noted that he continually whinges to the umpires at 1/4 time, 1/2 time 3/4 time and then after the match. I relaise that as a captain that they do have the right to talk to the umpires but at each break it seems a bit over the top.
Are there any more nominees? Or is it just small man syndrome!

You heard what was said did you? Think you will find he was having a well mannered chat with the umpires regarding three goal umpiring decisions which may or may not have decided the match. The concern being if this was left untreated important games later in the season or even finals could be decided by error. Not abusive at all. Ask your secretary before mouthing off because he was there!

Umpires lobbied for a significant increase in pay at the beginning of this year, a fee that our clubs need to cover. Therefore I think it is reasonable to expect a certain level of performance as you would of a paid player.

FWIW, the Northern District Umpires are exponentially better than their Swan Hill Colleagues.

I was on the goal line for two of the three decisions snibs and will guarantee you that they were both points, very very close but alas still points. I had a discussion with Ash after the ball had cleared and he agreed that they were both points.

Different discussion to the one I had with him. Said first one could have gone either way, which to be given a point is fair enough, but said the second one was a certain goal. We wont even discuss the goal awarded to Ultima that was touched two feet, yes two feet inside the line.
My point is not regarding the outcome of this particular match as Ultima deserved to win, its more about the suitability/skill set/age of some of our umpires as you alluded to earlier. Would hate to see this happen in a final, not a very good advertisement for our league. What is equally annoying is people banging on about it being hard to get umpires (which incidentally I acknowledge) as an excuse for poor performance. If they were volunteers it may be a valid point, but as paid employees I think we should expect better.
Bottom line is Ultima could have had a volunteer from the club do the job, save themselves $80 and have the job done competently.

We're now a few weeks past the half way point of the season so I thought i would start this going:

Grandfinalists: Wandella V Murrabit
Premiers: Wandella
League B&F: Luke Mahar/ Will Callow
GoalKicker: Bedggood
Rookie: One of Troy Robinson, Jay McDonald, Justin Robinson or Tom Brownbridge.
M.V.P (different to B&F): Will Callow
Biggest Success: Ultima
Biggest Disappointment: Macorna

feel free to include other ideas:thumbsu:

think u could add quamby, undefeated for the 1st 5 games, 2 that as well as wakool. few close games had've gone wakools way n they would be in the 4. reckon they could definately shape the top 4, if not make it themselves. actually u could prob say the league in general is a great success this yr! also is good to c the reserves goal kicking is a good contest with doran and gillingham neck and neck!
